I learned about bitcoin last night and was immediately blown away. After about 13 hours of research I decided that I need to be apart of this. I've been invested in silver for the last 4 years and I want to make a speculative trade using a small portion of my profits. I am a computer science major, an investor, and a gamer, and I want to be able to network with people on this site to get the bitcoins I need.

Really the most amazing this about bitcoins to me is that I look at it as a good virus. Just like music, literature, and art, they gain a footing in our minds and spread like wildfire. I just think it is amazing how p2p networks solve the scalability problem, making the good virus stronger the more it spreads, and freeing people from oppressive monetary systems in the process.

This model of currency is so elegant it is mind blowing... so please let me in!

I'm actually okay with being a newbie for a while. I've never really participated in a forum before, even though I've searched them many times before. It actually enforces a certain kind of discipline to read through everything, and to get a sense of the overall culture of the site.

Of course, it is somewhat boring to read through a bunch of posts of people just asking to be white listed.

I'm having an issue with a withdraw from deepbit and would like to be able to message Tycho, its ben about 6 hours since I did the withdraw.

I've done plenty of others before this with no issue, however this one virwox decided to recycle the address or something and now its stuck in limbo.

I really need to post in a thread concerning payments which i didn't receive.

Although, during the last 20 days (since I first found out about the possibilities of Bitcoin), i set up 2 tripple GPU standalone linux mining rigs and after getting all the necessary  knowledge by myself, I really don't think I'm a Newbie anymore.

I really don't mind some restrictions for new users (like 1 post per hour, no graphics in signature, and maybe posting restrictions in some expert-forums, but this is just ridiculous... Please somehow elevate me to to post in the Pools forum at least.

If you have an immediate need to be allowed into the forum beyond, please post your request here. Reasons such as "I'm not a spammer" will be ignored. You must provide evidence that shows that you understand more about Bitcoin than the average newbie would or that what you want to post can only be done in another forum.

While I have not purchased any bitcoin yet, I have a full intention to and by being allowed access to the forum here I can access the information required for me to buy when it is a good time in the market. Anyone who purchases any kind of stake(s) in money markets, needs a full gambit of information to best asses when the most ideal time to invest will be. I am not claiming I am any kind of investing genius, however data related to this specific market (including other people's speculation, ideas, observations, etc...) are all important aspects when it comes to relevant market data for an individual to analyze (i.e. myself).

I have NO intention of being one of those "silk road" obsessed individuals. While SR does play a part in the flux of the non-static nature of bitcoin, it is not the most important part.

I understand the administrators being vigilant with this forum for a gambit of reasons and I appreciate it. While I would be a little disappointed that I can no longer access all the information here, I would most certainly understand if it was decided that I don't yet deserve full access here. Thank you to all the admin for your time, I appreciate it.

Hello, I have been BMing (as i like to call it) for about a week and all I have been doing is reading on this fourm and tweaking my overclocks, as well as planning a BMing rig. I need help on what motherboard I should get and also what powersupply. The main thing I have been doing is helping people that are on overclock.net with there BMing problems because it is banned to speak of them on there. Using Linuxcoin 0.2a in my new i5 mining system with a Sapphire 5970 and a Gigabyte 5850, I initially got stuck with a few common Linuxcoin issues: couldn't run phoenix or poclbm because I kept getting "unable to load OpenCL kernel". In this post, they explain how to get around it:

Basically they tell you to open a root console and add the ATI SDK's library directory to LD_LIBRARY_PATH and then run phoenix. The key point for me was not to add the library path, but being root while running phoenix. Somebody else already mentioned this in one of the posts, but it is difficult to find these information if it's not included in the sticky post for linuxcoin.

So being root is a workaround, but the permanent solution is to go under /opt/miners/phoenix/kernels and make the kernel directories writable because apparently phoenix likes them that way:

After this you can run phoenix/poclbm as the regular "user"

Another issue with linuxcoin 0.2a -- which was also reported before -- that X restarts if I move my mouse outside the right side of the screen! This is quite annoying and couldn't figure out a way to work around it yet.

Linuxcoin 0.2a includes DiabloMiner, but they forgot to include java in the distribution  Easy to fix by installing sun-java-jre once you have the permanent partition to work.

To get the permanent install, it's not enough to follow the Ubuntu live CD instructions, because there they make you label the new partition "casper-rw", although for linuxcoin it should be named "live-rw". Oh, apparently I need 5 posts, not 4, so let me also say that it would be nice to have hashkill miner included with linuxcoin. As hardware monitoring is an important part of mining, the lm-sensors package should also be a default.
