I know quite a bit about Bitcoins from reading the Wiki and owning a few myself.  I've made 5 posts, but would like to start posting in the rest of the forum today.

I don't like the idea of replying to posts I don't care about in the newbie forum to get whitelisted.

Also I noticed that poclbm has very small Mhash/s when working in the pool, and maybe I can find out what might be the problem before I buy the new card.

So the hash rate is higher when you're solo mining?
Are there any error messages?

No, no error messages, the program works normally, but with about 1/10 the solo speed.

After reading all 43 pages of posts about Kiv's guiminer I wanted to ask a question so I registered.  Had I known about the newbie restriction I would have registered before either downloading the miner, getting it running, or reading all those posts.  I would have the required hours and then some by now!

I got to this topic (Kiv's guiminer) on the forum from the article at: http://www.newslobster.com/random/how-to-get-started-using-your-gpu-to-mine-for-bitcoins-on-windows

The question I have should be in that topic so I can get an answer from Kiv or one of the experts there.  It is about using guiminer for a local pool.  By that I mean that I have more than one computer to mine with and I would like to have them all working as one local miner.  I expect that I need to run guiminer on all boxes and the bitcoin server on one of them.  The ones without the server should connect to the one with it as if that box was a pool.  That is my guess but I am not sure if it can be done that way or how to do if it can be done.  From everything I have read I should be able to get 3.5 giga hashes per second combined from my computers.

This question was touched on by one poster but not as directly as I just did.  It was not answered unless, I missed the answer somehow.  I would be surprised if that were the case since I am sure that I read all of the posts.

I would appreciate it if whoever moderates the posts in this thread would move my question to the thread it belongs in so Kiv can answer it for me.

Kiv, if you see this please note that I will donate to your efforts each time I earn bitcoins with guiminer.

Hello, people in btc related IRC-channels might know me.

Edit by Maged:
Could you be more specific about the channels you've been in, as well as when you first joined those channels?

Re-edit: I apologize, but based on my review of the logs, you're still a newbie. Feel free to re-apply if you don't manage to get around the restriction on your own and you think you're ready.

I've read about Bitcoin from marginal revolution and consider myself fairly knowledgeable about it. I'd like to participate more in the community.

Hi,

As the other guys, i want to get out of here ;-) I've been reading about bitcoin for about 2 month and followed this community closely. So far I didn't feel the need to answer to a posting here, until now. I'd like to discuss some things in the "economics" section now Wink

To prove that i know something about bitcoin: I am mining with 4 radeon 6870s at 1,221 Ghash, overclocked each card to 1005, underclocked memory to 350 each using afterburner. I patched my open cl miner using various fixes in the board that were proven using a truth table in order to improve my speed even more. Also I have used the API of mt gox to create an autotrader app.

Please activate me for other forums and private messaging.

THanks! Smiley

Hi!

I have been following BTC for the last couple of months. I have talked a lot with my friends (who are involved with this Danish site for Internet politics: bitbureauet.dk) about both the political implications and the business opportunities that BTC brings about. We have started working on a VPN for BTC idea, that we hope to air soon. For that reason I really wanna talk to the forum.

I would like to get whitelisted as well. I have already made some posts in the newbie section to get me started. I've been reading these forums for over two months. I've would like to ask some questions to get some projects rolling in the more technical sections of these forums.

Hello,

I have started mining a month ago.
Now, i have 12 HD5870 within 3 PC.
I have developped an AOCLBF modified version based on v1.74 that preserve ATI performance levels in a way that allow automatic underclock in case of overheat when you overclock Core frequency.
I appreciate if i could post in the AOCLBF forum.

Thanks.

Yes, welcome to the newbie holding cell.

I'm trying to get a miner going using Inaba's guide.
I think I have everything right except I get an error when I try to connect to a pool.
I was going to ask for help on the thread but am stuck here for a while.

I've been a Windows user much too long and need to learn Linux.
Maybe someone here could tell me what I need to know.
When I enter ./poclbm.py -d1 --host=de.btcguild.com --port=8332 --user=<remainder hidden>
I get the following error:
poclbm.py: error: no such option: --host

I usually get something like this when I make a typo, but I don't see it.
I tried a space between d and 1 but it didn't matter.

syntax is:
./poclbm.py -d 0 -u YOUR_USERNAME --pass=YOUR_PASSWORD -o de.btcguild.com -p 8332

-d is device number, for me it's 0=GPU, 1=CPU
if you leave this out poclbm will show you what devices it can use
(but if you want to do CPU mining you should use another miner for that)
