I would like to be whitelisted as well. I have to ask about setting up mining. I get errors:

File "kernels/poclbm/__init__.py", line 132, in __init__

I'm reading this forum for quite a time, did not register tho' (my bad...)
Now that I got a huge issue with my miners, I can't post in the appropriate section. IRC has been my salvation, but real-time solution does not offer the support of currently connected people nor documentated solution for others in the same case.
Get me out of Newb-section please ! My 9 5870s are looking at me with despair in their eyes...

Yes, welcome to the newbie holding cell.

I'm trying to get a miner going using Inaba's guide.
I think I have everything right except I get an error when I try to connect to a pool.
I was going to ask for help on the thread but am stuck here for a while.

I've been a Windows user much too long and need to learn Linux.
Maybe someone here could tell me what I need to know.
When I enter ./poclbm.py -d1 --host=de.btcguild.com --port=8332 --user=<remainder hidden>
I get the following error:
poclbm.py: error: no such option: --host

I usually get something like this when I make a typo, but I don't see it.
I tried a space between d and 1 but it didn't matter.

syntax is:
./poclbm.py -d 0 -u YOUR_USERNAME --pass=YOUR_PASSWORD -o de.btcguild.com -p 8332

-d is device number, for me it's 0=GPU, 1=CPU
if you leave this out poclbm will show you what devices it can use
(but if you want to do CPU mining you should use another miner for that)

Needed to log two more hours before I could ask for help in the thread I'm working from and the damned power goes out!
Back now though.  Just pacing back and forth for another two slow hours.  I hope I can get a solution before I have to pass out tonight.
There must be a good reason for this holding cell but it's just agonizing!

Thanks 1MLyg5WVFSMifFjkrZiyGW2nw (please don't expect me to pronounce that)

Tried it your way and it didn't like -u.  I also tried --u, -user, --user, -u=, --user=....well, you get the idea.  "no such option:"
I would think that what BTC Guild shows on their website would be the correct syntax.

As for the device number, My machine lists the CPU as 0 and the GPUs as 1 and 2

Thanks for trying to help  Smiley

I don't understand how the forums rules on time/post count work, I just wanted to ask the author of the EasyCoin project some questions about investment and plans

Okay, I served my time.
Trying to domesticate the cockroach that wandered into the cell helped pass a lot of it.
Stupid thing called me crazy and ran off somewhere.

I wonder what kind of mining rig he has...

Oh!  Back on track.  I've put in four hours and this makes my fifth post, so I should be able to go ask for the help I need.
No.  With the mining rig!

Jailer?   JAILER!

I'm actually planning to start work on a new BTC client, and I'm anxious to start collaborating on security and processing efficiency ideas.  I think my previous threads should identify my higher-than-average understanding of what BTC is about:

and

My reason for which i would like to post on the forums is to comment on http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=9982.0 seeing as i purchased his clocktweak utility and it is not working on windows server 2008 with reference 6950 with shader unlock and catalyst 11.4 drivers using 11.6 CCC so i'd like to give phelix some feedback on that and possibly get a solution from him. i have gotten everything to work but MSI AB wont underclock past 625MHz and seeing as this is a (normally) headless server i cant manually close AB and reopen it to then proceed to lower the clocks everytime.

Thanks,
Truvativ.

Sup,

I am Romoku and request to post in the trading section. I find there is nothing to talk about in the Newbie section and I have been following http://www.reddit.com/r/bitcoin for awhile now (it got me into mining). I have nothing really tangible to show, but I do find the topics here quite interesting (lots of stuff gets linked to reddit).

I might be able to find a better reason later although I cannot talk while silenced, but this is a gated community.

Cheerio,

-Romoku

Edit by Maged:
There are two things I'd like to see before proceeding with this request:

1) Could you link to some things you have said about Bitcoin on Reddit?
2) Could you be more specific about what you want to post?

My post on a graphic design task (paying BTC) didn't get much attention here.  I'd prefer to post it somewhere more appropriate, and for that I need to get out of Newbie-ville.

Thanks!

I didn't want to wait....and also i think this method only supports spam, the "Newbies" are spamming in this Board to become the privilege to write in the other forums

I've been interested in Bitcoins for a while and I've been following their development. I haven't really had much time to put into discussion on them, but I recently made a post in the newbie forum for an idea that's been floating around in my head. I don't really think it targets the proper audience here and feel it might be more appropriate in the Development forum. I suppose (since everyone else is saying it) I should point out that I am not a spammer (not that that should be a reason to let me out of the newbie section)

Requesting for a Whitelist.

My only great credential are through my trades from Reddit.

Edit by Maged:
Could you link some of those trades?

I wanted to post in the Britcoin thread (Project Development > UK exchange: Britcoin) to ask if their recent site refresh could be causing a delay in sending BTC to my wallet.

I'm experiencing >24h with the transaction marked as 'Verifying', whereas my previous few transactions were sent within an hour or two.

If I post in there, someone else may be able to respond as they may know the answer. If I don't, I'll need to send an email to the site admin, and I don't want to waste their time asking questions that others could answer for me here.

Oh, and I love Bitcoin, I'll stick around to contribute to the forums after I get a response!

Pretty please...

You will need to install the APP SDK, get it here:

Thanks 1MLyg5WVFSMifFjkrZiyGW2nw (please don't expect me to pronounce that)

It's (supposed to be) a bitcoin address - I don't have a name  Tongue

does your user name or password contain "special" characters?
like <, >, &, |, \, $, #, ", '

if yes, put a \ in front of each such character, or the whole thing in single (') quotes

Ya know, I don't think it does any good to ask to be white-listed.

You just need to make five posts and serve your time.
Then you can go do the crime.  It's only fair Grin

Request to be white-listed. I lurked quite a bit as a guest on the forum before joining, have written about Bitcoin on my blog and am doing research on Bitcoin. I'd like to be able to re-post my Bitcoin Usage Survey in the main forum to alert people about it and increase my sample size, thus increasing the quality of the results.

I'd also like to explore the marketplace and offer some services.

Thanks for your consideration.

Request to be whitelisted...

Bitcoin has lots of potential, and provides lots of opportunities. I need to read up on the technical details because I worry about an organization like the NSA being able to attack the currency, although I think this is at least in theory protected against because the network is supposed to be protected by all the peers and they're ability to verify the blockchain.

BTW, isn't this 5-post threshold a bit ad-hoc for spam prevention, CAPTCHA anyone? Although I suppose this helps keep out the trolls as well Wink
