I understand the troll limiting.  Just to be clear though, it took me a LONG time to figure out that I could only post in this forum, and that I needed to post five times.  That's okay I guess, but it would have been nice to have it be clearer.  Not complaining, just constructive criticism.

In order to join, you had to click through a notice intended to inform you of this limitation.  If you didn't read before clicking through, how are we to communicate to you that what you need to do?

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

- Carroll Quigley, CFR member, mentor to Bill Clinton, from 'Tragedy And Hope'

Was wondering why I was missing the buttons to post replies even though my account is from last year.

As a result, the way the restrictions are structured right now is definitely scaring away quality new members, while determined trolls will find it easy to pass through.

My opinion too. The current method is childish and promotes children.

There are much better ways to keep a forum spam-free. I'm running several myself (winhlp.com and others), and you will not find a single piece of spam anywhere in any of them. I could explain how I do it, but I doubt that the people who decide here will listen to me, so I will spare myself the trouble.

I've posted 7 messages (now 8 I suppose) and I am still considered a newbie here.  What gives?  Can someone let me know why, or better yet upgrade my status so I could finally get out of the newbie forum? Please.

Thanks for keeping the forum limited to those with real interest with these simple steps. It requires one to research the site and the concepts behind it which is adequate admission price to keep the trolls somewhat at bay.

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts.

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted.

I agree  Grin

Every forum needs something like this.
Even if it means new users have to generate pointless posts like this one :p

Only registered so I could post my BFL orders to the WAIT LIST posts - but looks like I'm not going to be allowed.  Oh well...

I guess the idea makes sense, but I don't necessarily agree with how they combat these trolls...

I understand that these restrictions are probably necessary, I have an important message to post about Coinabul in their thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=50103.0;all to warn other users. However since i have to do so much legwork to get the word out, it is unlikely that less motivated users would take the time and effort to warn others or provide feedback.
