number five is alive.
p.s. I think it's not very obvious the newbie posting restriction for someone who signs up. I've been searching my spam filter for days for an activation email that doesn't exist...

I think the posting restrictions made some sense back in the day, but seriously there is so much information - especially for newbies - out there right now that it makes no sense. This is not going to be the first place someone learns about bitcoins. They are more likely to have learnt about it at one of the bitcoin business out there like bitinstant, or mt gox or somewhere they want to use bitcoins to buy something.

This is a difficult rule for those of us who prefer silence +1 I don't like posting something just for the sake of posting; neither am I going to spam to prove I'm not a spammer. It does encourage me to break up otherwise succinct comments into many smaller posts, in order to increase my count.

It makes sense to have such restrictions but it's really annoying and doesn't seem to be keeping the riff raff out. Seems like there are a few crackpots with hundreds of posts on this forum.

Its A Good Step But Its Also Irritates me I noticed I could not post on this forum, I was driving myself up the wall wondering what was wrong. I wish this newbie forum was at the top rather than the middle of the index page.

I have to say (as in literally, I have to, in order to gain posts) this is a somewhat significant barrier to entry for legitimate new users and doesn't exactly promote community growth. It would seem to make for a lot of superfluous noise. I hope the sandbox restrictions have at least managed to succeed in their stated objectives.

The fact I have to post 5 times before getting full access encourages pointless posts like this one.

it does encourage pointless posts like a lot in here, but I would imagine it should prevent some spam from happening. That being said, here's is my pointless post

Oh, here goes my first post...! By the way, leaving this info here again in case someone finds it useful: Newbie restrictions: ************** https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=15958.0Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies). If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic. Also: - You must have made one post in order to send PMs. - You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature. Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)
