As I understand newbies are expected to create garbage posts.

It seems like a fair and hardly exhaustive restriction.  Smiley

An idea: implementing StackExchange OpenID authentication, and checking a user's rating on bitcoin.stackexchange.com - if it's > x, automatically promote user outside of this area.

Mix some PGP crypto into this idea and it IS a portable reputation Smiley

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts.

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted.

Very unfortunate, I know linking to an email account isn't a good idea for discussing bitcoins (maybe?) but 4 hours isn't so bad. Having to make 5 posts in the newbie forum though...alright then, lol!

hopefully ill get full access soon so i can ask some questions on the board

So we basically have to post in this forum before we are allowed to do so elsewhere?

I can understand to a degree,  but now I have to post a few meaningless messages before I can request assistance in the other ones.

Cheers anyways

Yea, exactly. For new users trying to ask questions and understand things it only serves to come off like the 'community' doesn't want to listen.

More troublesome for me is the 4 hour logged in time...I've already passed the 5 post mark, but I'm still got over 3 hours left of logged in time before I can post!

the 50 post rule was good and might have actually helped clean up the other forums.  This new policy will do nothing and the other forums are already full of spam.

I think something in between would be better: 20 posts and 4 hours logged in. It's likely that you wouldn't get to 20 posts in that time period, which would continue to deter spammers. Honestly, though, I think anyone that has a good introduction should be whitelisted: how often do spammers take the time to introduce themselves?

So after you've reached this magic number, what then? Does this require moderator 'wand waving' so I can go join the rest of the plebs in the big playground?

Of course since I'm so new here myself, I don't have the answer for you, but if I was just guessing I would think it's an automatic process after a certain point.  (I've read 5 posts and 4 hours).  It would be too tedious if they had to manually upgrade everyone.

Charlie Kelly: I'm pleading the 5th.  The Attorney: I would advise you do that.  Charlie Kelly: I'll take that advice under cooperation, alright? Now, let's say you and I go toe-to-toe on bird law and see who comes out the victor?  The Attorney: You know, I don't think I'm going to do anything close to that and I can clearly see you know nothing about the law.
