Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts.

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted.

oof, good to know Wink

4 hours waiting online and 5 posts is not something difficult to achieve.

It is something that somebody who has a life will not want to achieve. The filter is selecting for kids and people who have nothing better to do. It may also be selecting for spammers, because they have no problem to fulfill the requirement.

I perceive it as stupid and counterproductive. It is also unnecessary, as there are better ways to achieve the same thing.

But, tell you what, this posting will not achieve anything. The signs of the time are self-overestimation, righteousness, hunger for power (no matter how insignificant), and an incredible amount of stupidity. I did not mention greed, because it has no bearing here.

I agree - took me a fair while to accumulate the 4 hours

You may be right in your assumption, yet it seems that many are willing to take that risk on this forum.

It's worth the effort Wink But what are good posts? Will a good joke do the trick?

Also I can see how sorting out spam might be annoying when you're trying to be careful not to censor. Maybe allowing down-votes (and then the post gets hidden or something, unless you click to see it) is another idea.

And if you want to be really fancy, users who down-vote too often have their votes weighted less over time.

I like this idea. *vote up*

Joined over a year ago and then mostly lurked here, but have been following Bitcoins with great interest and letting a couple of project ideas marinate in the meantime.  Now looking to get out of the penalty box with another couple of posts, so I can discuss them on the non-newbie sections...

...Aaaaand, I had already hit the 4 hour requirement, and this makes post #5, so with this I'm hopefully in...

Could the 'n00bs' have a little more room to post than just this thread please?

I have lots to contribute with........but very little of it fits within the n00b forum.  Cry

Except now I have to make empty messages of content to get those 5 posts created so i can really post where i want hah...

On the other hand, it took me 2 months to figure out why I can not post...

Law of unintended consequences...

I'm not sure I understand the time limit. My counter says only 2 hours and 25 minutes, but I'm sure I've been logged on far longer than that.

It's good that there are restrictions but if i have to post 5x to be released from the restrictions and i can only post here i'm going to have to make 5 posts here. I'll spread them out timewise. Hopefully nobody actually reads this thread. I apologize in advance if my upcoming 5 messages irritate anyone.
