The Owner of NBA Franchise, Sacramento Kings, has announced that he is planning to offer Bitcoin as a payment option for staff salaries. Vivek Ranadivé made the statement via a Clubhouse audio chat hosted by Tim Draper on Monday.

In his announcement, Ranadivé proclaimed that all staff, including coaches and players, would be able to receive as much of their salary as they would like in the increasingly popular cryptocurrency. In 2020, Russell Okung of the NFL's Carolina Panthers stated that he would be receiving half of his paycheck in Bitcoin, but that was through a startup which converts direct deposits fiat payroll. The Kings will be the first US professional sports franchise to offer direct payment in crypto.

The NBA has led the way for professional sports leagues in the fast integration of sports gambling partnerships, as well as new technology, such as NFTs. The Kings have been even farther ahead of the curve, accepting Bitcoin as payment for tickets and merchandise as early as 2014.
