Hey guys....if the 741 reaches at or near it's operating temp in terms of operating temp or fan speed, does it shut down automatically, and if I'm not around, will it harm the units if I don't get there to unplug them immediately? Or does it just cool down, then start back up sometime later?
While certainly not good for them to overheat, they first start throttling down speed. If that does not help enough they simply shut down until cool enough and then they restart. I had a fan die on a 721, took a few days to notice and it survived just fine. Thanks Fuzzy....looking at my dashboard....currently it says temp @32C and Fan is 4500 RPM

Hi,
I've had some Avalon6. The dashboard on the Raspberry Pi was quite advanced and it was possible to enable SSH.
Now, with the Avalon7... It seems we are stuck with the "simple" dashboard?? Is there a way to activate SSH?
Thank you,

Would be nice if the Rasp Pi had some remote monitor or email alerts when temp gets to a degree.

You should be able to access miner temp information via the cgminer API; remotely if you setup your network correctly.

Thank you,
It's already activated. 'root' and whatever password you selected. You can also get back to the 'advanced' interface by clicking the 'advanced settings' button in the left pane.

Also: how much network traffic do these use? The GPU's are minimal
Mining in general has a nominal network requirements. The Avalons won't be any different than you GPU rigs.

So for the moment as someone here explained my 2400W PSU is stable at Voltage -2 for 2 741's. Now I'll try if it is stable at -1 and give you update.

It will work stable at vcore set to 0.

To be honest I have only had Antminers for the past two years and never purchased one of these newer Avalons. But in general the three most common barriers to using btc asics at home are:
1. Electricity - do you have enough watts and amps to power one, let alone three. And are the circuits where you need them. 2. Noise - Don't know about these, but the noise from an S9 is deafening. Where I live there are no basements and it gets too hot in the garage. So I have no where to put these things where my family would not kill me. 3. Heat - you need to be able to exhaust the heat outside and provide relatively cool air to the intake side of the fan(s). That's not always an easy or cheap environment to create. It depends on your house.
So if you can handle those three things go for it. I mined in my office and still do with gpu rigs. But once the ASICs got to the S5's they were just too power hungry and hot to keep in the office. I moved to a local data center for 18 months. Then the electric rates were too high. This was when btc was stagnant in the $200-$260 range for a long time. So finally I moved them to Washington State. They have been there for 18 months or so now. Good cheap power and it usually does not get too hot. Anyway - my $0.02. [/quote]
1,2,and 3 are no problem, but the cost of electricity might make it prohibitive.
Is the hosting facility in Washington public? (as in what would they charge to host 1 of these?)

Sadly no one I recommend without reservations except Bitmain Warranty in Denver. But in most cases you need to purchase your miner from them in order to get hosting. If you are seriously looking for someone to host your miner pm me.

the problem with that number is that in ten minutes all the extra hash can shift to BCC and the increase drops. Last jump diff was -28% at block 400 of the 2016 blocks late the hash left BCC and cam back to btc and the final number was 3.3% look here https://pool.viabtc.com/we are at BTC 7674p or 7.674E BCC 1056p or 1.056E It is no longer possible to know what the diff will be since some times BTC drops to 4500p and BCC jumps to 3900p that can happen in an hour from now.

Does electricity really cost 2cents/kW there??

Hello all, Im brand new to the forum and joined to ask for some opinions and feedback. We just placed an order for 60 Avalon 741's (if it's ever processed by Steve ), and are planning to build a small farm with them. (we also ordered a couple L3+'s, four S9's and two D3's so far, but thats another story). We hope to run ~55 Avalon 741's at any given time with plans for another bulk order, hoping for about 40BTC/year for a couple years while we can (insert sarcastic 'HA' here) We have a steel prefab warehouse available, approx 750 sq-ft. We're installing a dry fire suppression system, 24hr security cams, there are guards on the compound, 30,000 btu HVAC with filters and exhaust fans. I was told the warehouse is connected to 300w 3 phase power and is wired for 220v (IIRC) Electricity is dirt cheap in my country (like 0.001 USD), and my business partner owns a fire/safety/electrical industrial (Oil/Gas) service company, so we have a certified electrician and network/IT admin assisting with the setup/networking. I wanted to get some feedback/pointers/tips on: Power Requirements Network Requirements Is there any special network hardware that may be needed to run 50+ miners? (or is it as simple as a simple LAN network, three 24 port switches and an internet connection??) help an old guy out Much appreciated.

help an old guy out Hope you are to too old - you might not live long enough to see them. Given the inability of these folks to deliver I think it is wiser to build GPU miners and convert to BTC. I have ordered the components to build eight 6 card rigs and will have it all on Monday. I have a 741 and it works great but I can't sit around and wait forever on these jokers. Time is money especially in this market. I would be damn surprised if anyone gets anything from the Aug 31 order before mid October. I ordered 5 figures worth of miners from them but I am not holding my breath on getting them. I went ahead and bought a bunch of GPU rigs and when or if they ever get around to my order and asking for payment I may or may not go through with it.

You will need some of these: http://www.parallelminer.com/product/rev2-ultimate-2400watt-power-supply-kit-for-gpu-mining-94-platinum-efficiency-200v240v-w-32pcie-plugs/As for networking you can build a few Rasberry Pi, they have a how to a few pages back by Philip. Canaan site state 20 miners per controller but I would do 8 per controller, it would be 2 daisy chains per usb port. Network is fairly simple doesn't require much to setup. Good luck on getting the 60 Avalon' s it's been quiet from Canaan lately.
