Interest in ASIC devices are big, I think they will collect enough pre-order fund to drive the project, just time to market is a variable

In my past experience, projects in Sweden are typically 6 months to couple of years long, only a small amount of them started to use Agile working method recently

http://orsoc.se/orsoc-and-kncminer-are-partnering-up-to-develop-bitcoin-mining-products/langswitch_lang/en/

Time for a new theory (and a kick in the balls for this one).

Take a look at the page I linked to. You'll see only five major announcements, the last being kncminer.com with the one before that on Aug. 22, 2012.

Oddly, there are no screenshots of kennemarandcole.se or kandc.se or kennemarandcole.com from last year, because they only recently went live.

Could it be that Kennemar and Cole already work for ORSoc, or were their names simply "borrowed"?

Take a look at http://www.kennemarandcole.com/ and convince me it doesn't read similar to http://orsoc.se, both being consultant-type companies.

I am confused. What does reserving a pre-order achieve if the units are sold on a first-come first-served basis?

You reserve a place in queue and when they are ready to take pre orders, you can then decide to pre order or drop out of queue. Basically a free queue holder if in the future you decide to actually pre order. It's vaporware pre-ordering!

so what are you saying there can't be another consultant type company? And Kennemarandcole serves a completely different market of IT services, while ORsoc serves hardware.

I see. So if you want to pay all of the money upfront before the first product is delivered, a preorder helps you do that, but if you want to wait for stronger evidence- your preorder disappears.

yes pretty much, if you feel confident at pre order time you can order if not, you can wait and just lose your spot.

Okay! You win! I thought it was a pretty crazy theory and all, but wanted to toss it out there nonetheless. There's no way in hell that ORSoC could've been aware of Bitcoin and what it incompasses until Kennemar and Coles brought it to their attention. Has anybody ever heard of a company called BTCMiner before? Maybe it's a new company that's going to work hand-in-hand with KNCMiner.

Any insight will be appreciated.

My bad! Sometimes I forget to include the sarcasm tag in posts.

The point I was trying to make is that ORSoC knew about Bitcoin prior to KNCMiner bringing it to their attention in hopes of having them develop their miners.

Lol I'm like dafuck!! That's very probable as ORSoC is in that business I'm sure they knew about bitcoin lol, maybe KNC is a new company started by ORSoC just for the purpose of selling miners, might be a new venture.

Hello kncminer,
Is there an estimate as to when the HW specs will be posted? Some concrete information (not necessarily physical proof) is necessary to motivate people for pre-ordering.
Also, given the BFL fiasco, its important to publish your schedule for the consumers. When can that be done?

What exact stage in this project are you in (like basic RTL design / simulation / foundry contract signed/ shipping )?

That's exactly what my new theory consists of which, in and of itself, isn't a bad thing unless, that is, they opted for cloaking the connection at the onset, then there's a problem, for if they do this, what else are they capable of doing (read hiding)?

Yes, but I highly doubt that, if anything maybe they are acquaintances. Or it could be that the companies and people are unrelated. If you read ORSoC's about page it mentions that they try to offer very cost effective consulting solutions to any size companies including smalls ones like KNC, so maybe that's why KNC approached them. Either way this to date has been the most credible ASIC company posted so far. There is a lot for ORSoC to lose in this deal if they are trying to screw people over. They have been a successful company for 12yrs making 1M+yr, I doubt they are trying to scam people. With that said they are the most capable of developing an ASIC in a short period of time. Can't compare amateurs to a company who has been in the business for so long.

Hopefully they provide good specs, and deliver on time, everything I've read so far point to very positive info accepting Paypal, Excellent partnership, quick delivery after pre order money is actually taken, but we shall see keeping my fingers crossed.

bla bla bla..

someone should go to their office ask some in deep but not secret revealing questions and we all would know is this scam or not. as i recall a handful of ppl volunteered to go by their office.

IHMO all this mambo-jambo about companies relations and stuff does not matter, if they are working on something they should have designs or maybe protos if they are that far. if it is a scam they will refuse visitors and are hiding behind "nda"s or whatever "clever reasons" they can think of.

Did everyone read the announcement carefully?
http://orsoc.se/orsoc-and-kncminer-are-partnering-up-to-develop-bitcoin-mining-products/langswitch_lang/en/

Quote
"ORSoC will be responsible for product development, including design, production and testing."
the announcement continues:

Quote
Our technical expertise together with excellent vendor partnership we feel confident we quickly can design and produce an affordable high performance mining product

The nature of the partnership is plain: a fgpa company new to ASICS (but aware how much they sell for) has hired two local 'entrepeneurs' to get the money to develop something that hasn't even been given a chalkboard outline yet.

Kncminer are following the BFL business model.

Quote from: kncminer.com
Even when we have made enough progress we will open up our order books with two possible purchase methods. The first will be a standard payment in advance allowing customers to enter as far down the queue as possible (based on a first come first serve bases). The first 500 KNCminers will be sold this way, as soon as the first 500 are sold we will close that order book.

The second order type which will be available at the same time is a 50% upfront payment method. Customers enter the queue as low as possible (first come first serve) with the miner numbers starting at 501 the rest of the 50% payment is then due 3 weeks before shipment.

We will then close that method as soon as we ship our first miner and return to the standard upfront payment method.

An interesting payment plan: let me restate it.

When "enough" has been done the following happens.

    • A starting pistol is fired!
    • The two categories are both available for payment, paying all of your <500 order or half of your >500 order gets your order shipped before later payments in the category
    • Category 1 shuts after 500 units are paid for
    • Category 2 still accepts the aforementioned half payment
    • A second starting pistol is fired, category 2 orders will need to pay the other half because the first unit will ship in 3 weeks from today
    • The back of the queue will still be open to anyone who pays 100% of the unit cost on a new preorder
    • Unit 1 leaves the KNCminer HQ after the 3 week window passes
    • KNCminer consequently "returns" to the standard 100% upfront payment policy

    • Luke-Jr's designated delivery address- the KNCminer office in Stockholm- takes receipt of the unit and notifies him it is hashing with a polite email+IMG attachment
    • Units 2 and above reach their owners quickly and with absolute deference to payment order
    • These units work without major faults according to realistic but impressive specifications for a period of time that exceeds BFL's total shipping delays

    Best scam yet.

They say they won't accept payment first but they will allow it. Of-course the people who pay first will the ones to get it first.
But that's the scam. Those first 500 people who pay will get jipped of their money.

Sure 80% might pay by Paypal and 20% might pay by bitcoin. At least they get 20% of 500 orders (Let's just guess 40BTC a unit).
    So that's about 4000 BTC (100 orders x 40BTC) or about $324K USD in today's value.

Not too bad of a pay for an easy 1 month scam work.

    Done.

If they have such a sort turn around time they don't even need pre orders. Just have people order and then in 2 weeks get your miner. They still haven't proven who they are with many requests.
