Feathercoin Mandatory Update

Feathercoin 0.19 is now available and is considered a mandatory update due to changes to the automatic checkpointing system. The old checkpointing system is not completely compatible with the updated version, failure to update could leave users on the wrong chain in case of an attack. Exchanges have been informed to upgrade and Feathercoin wallets will be in maintenance until the new checkpointing system is running.

If you require a legacy version then there are the 0.13, 0.16, 0.17 and 0.18 branches that have also been updated to the latest checkpointing system. If you require a legacy feature from a prior wallet but are unsure when it was removed send me a message and I'll find out for you.

You can download the latest version of Feathercoin from the link below.

About Feathercoin

Feathercoin is a powerful open source digital currency with monetary properties likened to Bitcoin but under the hood is something very different.

Feathercoin is an upgraded and customised version of Bitcoin. Feathercoin was born with the intent to expand, experiment, and build onto the blockchain technology in a manner open to all for participation. Block hashing uses the excellent NeoScrypt which is an updated version of Scrypt using modern faster elements, see the whitepaper below. Feathercoin is also ten times faster than Bitcoin having 60 second blocks giving it that many times more capacity for transactions. The difficulty adjust eHRC (enhanced Hash Rate Compensation) to make sure that blocks come in on average at 60 seconds is also a unique solution first developed by Feathercoin and now used by several popular coins. Automatic Checkpointing is used to protect the history of the chain and prevent 51% attacks reversing transactions.

Technical features

NeoScrypt Block Hashing
40 Coin reward per block (Post halving)
336 million coins total
Block target is 60 seconds
Block reward halves every 2,100,000 blocks
P2P Port 9336
RPC Port 9337
eHRC (enhanced Hash Rate Compensation)
Advanced Checkpointing

Malware warning in Chrome when I tried to download the GUI file. Just saying.

The warning is that not many other have downloaded the file. I'm sure someone else can come on and independently confirm this to be malware free.

What port?

locate appdata/roaming/featerhcoin..

create feathercoin.conf

Add this info
server=1
daemon=1
rpcuser=miner
rpcpassword=SetSomeRandomPassword
rpcport=9337
port=9336

If you are going to mine with more miners on your network you need to add rpcallowip=*.*.*.*

If you got a Radeon 7970 you can use this cgminer command:
cgminer --scrypt -u miner -p SetSomeRandomPassword -o 127.0.0.1:8100 --worksize 256 -g 2 -I 13 --lookup-gap 2 --gpu-engine 1000 --gpu-memclock 1400 --shaders 2048

I am releasing FeatherCoin now. I have been working on this for a while and now want to give it go in the big bad world.

This coin is a fork of Litecoin diving back to its 0.6.3 build. I am a supporter of Litecoin and will be following Coblee’s releases. The Litecoin team is working on a newer release and this project will move with them.

The joys of a Litecoin fork, are that we get to use Scrypt and follow a release designed for specifically for it.  There are a lot of Bitcoin forks but with the advent of ASIC miners we are starting to see how much havoc they can cause. To give us GPU miners shelter we need Scrypt based coins, as, in my opinion, Litecoin is currently the only valid one. Litecoin being as mature as it is makes it hard to join in the fun so let’s start with a new coin that follows Litecoin’s tradition.

FeatherCoin has a block reward of 200 and will have a total of 336 million coins. This makes it four times that of LiteCoin, this is the same position that LiteCoin was set against BitCoin. There is no private preming of this coin.

This coin is in beta like all this cryptocoins.

GUI Version for Windows - http://www.feathercoin.com/FeatherCoin.zip
Windows Daemon - http://www.feathercoin.com/feathercoind.zip
Source Code - http://www.feathercoin.com/feathercoin-0.6.3.zip

There is a website to come and I will get this on to GitHub. I will update this post with some more technical details tomorrow. It has been a long day so I'll leave you to test this over night. markm, if nothing else I hope that you find this coin useful one day. Smoovious, just start mining.

What is the point of having so many coins? That seems to make it much more worthless. Why not have less coins than Litecoin?
