i am not a techie. no IT guy at all. i came across bitcoin by means of a historic perspective. what strikes me most is the blatant ignorance of most of the IT guys that i talk about bitcoin. they always laugh. i mean those guys are professionals, the make their income because they figured out that digitization is a mega trend, but they refuse to see the elegance of bitcoin. how can this be?

They do see it. That laugh is a nervous one, that covers up a little bit of anger, and feelings of 'missing out'.

I do confirm what you are saying. Most of them know they missed a huge opportunity but here's a silver lining from a friend of mine. He works as main IT architect for a SME. He has put a small asic farm (7 antminers S7) in the server room where nobody notice it. Free electricity and free air conditioning...
He does not earn much but I was happy to made him aware of the BTC potential.

I'm desperately waiting to see and understand if $1000 will hold. I hope the price will reach parity with gold soon and after that the unknown is our land.

I've been involved for around 18th months and managed to accumulate some BTC - but even I feel like I missed out from the early days - was fully aware of BTC but took a long time to take the plunge - wish I'd got in earlier - but glad that I did.

Hey, I am an ex-IT guy (changed career in 2009) and I am in! Granted though, it took me a while to start seeing the true disruptive potential of Bitcoin and the Blockchain. Started mining scrypt in 2013 just before the meteoric rise to ATH before jacking it in when the returns began to diminish drastically. Exchanged my LTC for BTC and have been accumulating and Hodling ever since.

The irony is that the idea of 'missing out' on bitcoin is those IT guys showing even more ignorance. They also 'missed out' when bitcoin hit a $200 low in 2015, but still chose to do nothing. They will 'miss out' again when bitcoin doubles or triples from here.

Missing out on buying a tiny bit of bitcoin and then overnight becoming rich? Sure, yes... definitely.

Missing out on making a major or ongoing investment in bitcoin, and still one day become rich?  Maybe, or it just might take longer than their shortsighted timeframe of 1 year. More like a decade or two. (pro tip: quit dumping all that money every year into your pitiful 401k, put it directly into bitcoin instead)

Missing out on using bitcoin as a global, universal payment method? Never

Missing out on using bitcoin as a long term store of value? Never

Missing out on using bitcoin as a hedge against inflation? Never

Maybe some IT people might be hesitant because they understand how vulnerable most computers are.

I think it's more your economic views than your views on digital tech.

Cool. I did the same. Worked with IT for 20 years, got out around 2012. Mined LTC and got my BTC that way, and bought a lot around $160 a few days before the ATH... holding and spending a bit, but mostly holding.

Definitely not. What I like about Trump is watching the liberals lose their shit.

I only hope we go long enough without going to war with a military power that can actually hit their target for me to make my money and get out of Afghanistan with a healthy bitcoin wallet.

I think PoolMinor has so much truth in his analysis though. Being a holder, I hope he is wrong, but I also think there will be a move down soon. After that... moon.
If it crosses 1100 with nice volume, we might see moon earlier.

I know a lot of IT guys myself.Funny is that I, a non IT guy, was the only one, who knew about Bitcoin and the only taking it serious since ~4 years now. And right now they are hyping Blockchain! Blockchain here, Blockchain there! Bitcoin? Meehh!! Waste of money, will get displaced pretty soon,  and so on.
Sometimes I ask myself if they are doing this on purpose. Maybe because, as you mentioned, they might have realized that they missed a big chance.Or maybe because a non professional techy guy like me knew about Bitcoin before them?!
