I recently heard (cant remember where) that bitcoin is the largest computational achievement in history. Couldn't seem to validate this with a search. Anyone else hear this or have links to articles?
far and away, by orders of magnitude Network hashrate is currently around 10 ExaH/s (10,000,000 TH/s) which roughly converts to 127 ZettaFLOPS, though there is no direct conversion between FLOPS (floating point operations per second) and hashes because hashes involve integer operations (whole number math) and FLOPS involving obviously floating point math. Any claim of Bticoin is x flops is simply an approximation of the potential floating point power.
At any rate, far and away the largest computational effort humanity has yet achieved. I do not think "astronomical" is hyperbole in this case. the Bitcoin network dwarfs all extant supercomputers put together yes, the supercomputers are still measured in PetaFLOP/s (10E15) while bitcoin is running over 100ZettaFLOP/s (10E21) estimated equivalent, believe it or don't, it is true

Now that they rekt the shorts by conjuring tens of millions of tethers out of thin air they might as well screw the longs as a next step.

Thanks for that Jojo. I mentioned this to a few folks the other day and realized I never fact checked.
Wonder how p2p torrent hash power stacks up against Bitcoin. Been around longer although not a single focus application unlike BTC

I think it's pointless comparing super computers to BTC's computing. BTC computing is a one trick idiot savant that can't do anything else.

There's an intriguing bit of psychology at play as the price rises. And this is only really going to kick in once we're in the quad digits. Humans have this peculiar trait about us that the more expensive something is the more we desire it. People with wealth in other areas will see the rise, and will find themselvews strongly compelled to buy some of these mysterious bits. And this cycle will continue on upwards.
Microeconomics 2302. BULLISH. TIME TO BUY! I told you on the last page. Did you listen?? Who's your daddy? Sweet baby Jesus. What I wouldn't give to have my 25 BTC and 1100 ETH back. . . HODL gentlemen. Don't make my mistakes

You may even have to move up your retirement several years, like now.
Go RETIRE!!!!
Get your ass on a beach somewhere and start sipping pina colatas, dammit!!!!
I feel I owe my industry a couple task completions. All y'all are depending upon it. That said, a couple months ago, I took my boss out to dinner to inform him that I am on a path to retirement - as soon as I finish aforementioned tasks. At this point, the salary is really kind of superfluous.

I think most people have a sell point ($300, $650, $1,000, $5,000) where they dump.
Dump? Perhaps 'most people'. Then again, think about how stupid the average person is, then think about the fact that half of all people are stupider than that. Odd that Litecoin is just sitting there...
... because?... (I don't find it odd at all)

Apparently that 2nd place coin (that's not to be mentioned in here) buys a lot less bitcoin than last week...
But that third place (formerly fourth place) coin buys a bit more today. Cheers!
