agreed. someone in a country with high inflation or a corrupt/insane dictator will allocate to those categories differently than someone in a more or less stable country. or some place prone to natural disasters that could wipe out vast parts of the land or infrastructure. each one must assign a risk factor and try to allocate/adjust funds accordingly.

now, if i were single, i would have much more of my net worth in btc. but im married now and much more risk averse. single, i did take much higher risks as they only affected me, no problem.. im an idiot, know it, and paid the stupid tax when needed. married, i wont risk our comfortable retirement simply for more possible profit. thats not to say i wont take risks for more profit at all, but much smaller ones than previously. securing our future is the priority. and to me that means more diversification. and i dont mean alts (junk), i mean non crypto. even though that has far less potential dividends, plus has its share of downsides too.

Nothing wrong with cashing out on the way up and securing your future. I don't think you need to be old or married to study that playbook either. While I think we're still heading to six-figures, the future isn't set in stone, and, after such fabulous percentage gains, diversifying into more traditional, lower-yielding assets is prudent imho.

Yep I also had to downgrade my lifestyle.

Me too tbh, I’ve lived a bit of a false life since last year when I cashed in all my free BCH.

HODLING bitcoin is boring as fuck, having all that money but not being able to spend any of it. Fucking cock tease.
It’ll all be worth it in a few years though.

Same. The funny thing is that I haven't actually cashed out anything. I just looked at my wealth increasing "on paper" last year, and stepped things up accordingly. Ate at fancier restaurants, flew first class, etc.

Now I'm back to Taco Bell and flying coach.

Well, at least it isn't Ramen 3 times a day and taking the bus.

you can still afford to ride on a bus? damn. look at mr moneypants here

Actually, I can afford to put an all beef hotdog in my Ramen and I do drive my own 2 years old car. I'm blessed.  Cool

the stupid lambo fantasies evaporate. Even if it is only a symbol for, yeah for what actually?

which is easier to write: "lambo", or "fabulously obscenely stinkin filthy rich beyond your wildest dreams"?

Both stink hours against the wind, tiens. :-)

It's a symbol of the things that you always wanted as a kid, but never really had a chance to get. For myself, the Lambo dream is super cool, but once you try to fit in one you realize how completely stupid and impractical it is for anything remotely connected to an adult life.

You could change your life and definition of "comfort" to MEET the Lambo, but then you're just trading one set of slave shackles for another. Blah.

Better to try one on before you buy it, might wind up realizing it's not the thing for you....

It's uncanny how well the ol' bubble cycle chart fits, isn't it?

We are not low enough... yet. There is no sign of depression ... at all. Look at the optimism here reigning. If the bull continues here, it would be a 2013 repeat.

Well if you have a shitload of btc from 2011/12 then depression is far away, but there are already people who commited / tried to commit suicide because of the drop...

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"

The ETH / BTC volume on Bitstamp was so low I had to market sell.

I decided rather than just let the ETH sit around in a bearmarket I would put the funds to use on Bitmex.  That way I don’t have to dip into my BTC savings.  I’m going to try to catch the bottom of this wedge with low leverage. Might take a few days to drop under $6k but I’m in no rush.

That's right.  Put a little money where your mouth is.  Maybe this is how bull transforms into a "short-term" bear that slowly transforms into longer -term bear and later into a kind of roach who had gotten roached?  Perhaps?   Tongue Tongue

This is the current Market Capitalization chart of cryptocurrency.

Capitalization puncturing 190B then the next milestone will be 180B. It will return to about 190B and then collapse to 130B.
This is my personal opinion.

This is the bitcoin thread, not the crypto thread.... Yes, we know that various cryptos are dropping considerably as compared with bitcoin.

Look at the one year time frame for various cryptos compared with bitcoin.  Some of those various alts you cannot easily look up on any exchanges for longer time periods because they have not been listed on exchanges for much more than a year.

Wow, you are all rich. Now I eat only in the university cafeteria and sometimes I order Chinese food. In this year I changed my lifestyle.

Maybe the SEC doesn't like straight lines as much as (some) bitcoin traders do.

I wouldn't be surprised if people irrationally freak out about it. I could see the price dropping further once more people hear this news. Though realistically, CXBTF was just made available on US markets about a month ago, and its all-time US trading volume looks to be only something like $5 million, so it's not as if a major player in the market was just removed.

According to some apparent SEC quotes on CoinDesk, it looks like the SEC is annoyed by some language in CXBTF's marketing material, though I can't actually find the source of those quotes.

IMO about $1-2k of the price is built on top of people hoping for an ETF (which would probably quickly put the price well above $10k), so any news that hints for or against quicker ETF approval is likely to have major effects.

I interpret the SEC statements as code for “we think the promoters are engaging in misleading and fraudulent advertising”.

It’s one more nail in the coffin of an ETF this year.

Oh I don't know dude, how about a medium of exchange?

Some days I wonder if "store of value" is what I signed up for when I started working with Bitcoin. The idea at the time was to be able to collect payments and buy stuff using something other than Paypal and dollars.

Now.... Still use it for that, but it's more complicated.

Once the market gets hooked on the bulls horns we should take a nice relaxing vacation to bangkok. At some point you will be able to buy pussy with coin.

I would start here:
