Why would he have to destroy his btc to protect his family?

In general terms he's not that rich...
Because he probably holds the keys himself (do you think he would trust a bank's safe deposit box or anyone but himself?), and thus could easily be targeted. Torture, kidnapping, blackmail. It's like he's storing hundreds of millions of dollars in cash in his home, and everybody knows about it.

What about litecoins creator? He doesnt seem too bothered about being in the public eye. There are ways to protect yourself that don't involve burning millions of $.

How many litecoins does the litecoin creator has, in terms of $$$?

The government agencies probably know who he is for years. They have resources that journalists don't have. And if a journalist can find him, well...

And that man worked many years for defense contractors on classified projects...

It is possible however that the man is not the Real Satoshi, and that the reporter stretched the facts a bit to fit a theory that she got excited about but which in the end was not conclusive.  Carefully pick one or two sentences from what the relatives actually told her, change a word here and there...

I have seen it happen to many of those who looked into the Voynich manuscript.  To all but one of them, actually.  Wink

I sure hope this is a hoax. I think both Bitcoin and Satoshi will be better off, if Satoshis identity is not known.

EDIT: Adam, time to change the poll perhaps?

You can summarize this long rant into "I'm right, even if I'm not right". Religious nuts like these create more harm then good to bitcoin imo.

This could be said of you as well.

Whats up with intelligent people arguing desperately against bitcoin in a bitcoin forum like Jorge Trollfi and you, kkaspar?
Is there a point in shouting bitcoin will fail to a group that mostly believe in bitcoin? What if you actually turn out to be right?
You gain absolutely nothing from this. And don't come with the "I'm only here to help" argument. Thats utter bullshit

It's funny that you say that people are actually "arguing against bitcoin". I myself find that bitcoin is an interesting piece of software, but I also find myself arguing against the religious zealots who have gathered around bitcoin.
It's common for religious people to speak in those terms. I have often heard that if I don't agree with the Christian world view, then I'm actually against god. People aren't able to comprehend that there could be different understandings of god and if you don't accept the religious dogmas in Christianity, then you are not against god. It's not surprising to see the same mentality here.
I'm here for the same reasons then most probably are, to read and to speak my mind. I think that bitcoin doesn't need religious worshipping, so I can't see that I have to either worship it or leave. I like to keep an sober mind and take bitcoin as it is. An interesting piece of software that currently is an innovative gambling platform, but what also brought forward ideas that can trigger the start of something more."

I'm hoping the newsweek article is fake, but Gavin Andresen's tweet pretty much confirms all this: https://twitter.com/gavinandresen/status/441547758827474946

I feel bad for Nakamoto, but even if the article correctly portrays him, this guy's worst nightmare just happened. However, I bet the guy has a plan, expect him to disappear again, he was training his kids from a young age on tactics to avoid government agents, etc....  I'm sure he might even have an alternate life setup somewhere. It was an incredible dick move to ALSO expose his children. What the hell? It's like she basically wrote down a directions list for how to kidnap someone.

Almost sounds like a piece one would find on The Onion. I'm a little surprised they didn't wait until April Fool's Day to run it.

That journalist is insane and ruthless.
He just condemned the poor guy to death sentence, whether he is The Nakamoto or not.

I hope he is real Satoshi. If he is real Satoshi, he has lot of powder to protect himself and his family, he'd be not first or last rich guy out there.

If he's not, then he might be in trouble and he should sue the heck out of Newsweek and get that powder to protect himself and his family.

Seems odd. For years Gavin holds out against all the community's SN questions then "regrettably" tells a reporter everything?

Hm, it seems that Huobi's clients did not like the news that Bitcoin's inventor is a Japanese who has worked for US defense contractors...

Tin foil hat time: It was planned as a way to bring publicity to bitcoin and distract from the negative news.

Not saying I believe this, just throwing it out there.

An early April fools joke from the Bitcoin core developers leading a naive journalist astray? Tongue Would be an awesome PR stunt, but would they really put this man's life in danger as a joke?
