Here is an improved graph of the bitcoin price history versus the Metcalfe value. I am now using the price history from bitcoinaverage.com (giving me post-Gox prices as well), and I am using both the number of transactions per day (excluding popular addresses) and the number of unique bitcoin addresses used per day as the N in Metcalfe's Law : V ~ N2 .I would like to do a proper regression to get a numerical model, but the blockchain.info charts currently have holes in the data (the large spikes visible on the curves) that render such a processes useless. For the time being then, I've just eyeballed the fits as you see below. The current price of bitcoin is slightly higher than its Metcalfe value. However, should the network continue to grow at its historical rate of 3.2X per year, the Metcalfe value should exceed the current bitcoin price later this spring.

I'm usually fairly pessimistic but now there's a lot more support on the buy side than sell. Really don't think we'll break 540 anytime soon
Mark my words. We'll be back above $580 before the weekend is over. There will be a minimum $40/BTC bounce off the lows. Bargain hunters may not even get a full Saturday. I'm buying now and keeping just a little fiat handy in case it goes lower first. I've seen this happen too many times. I didn't get the timing perfect, but I'm calling this a win. Sure as hell made me money!

To be fair - we have called him to account when he's been wrong - I am inclined to say 24hours out is not bad, with all the doom and gloom around of late.

I got the direction and the amount. Nobody has beaten my record.

....as per Metcalfe's law.
Useless chart without dinosaurs. I'm not sold yet. Metcalfe was born in 1946. He *is* a dinosaur. Note that I am a dinosaur as well, so I have nothing against them except we smell a bit swampy. Al contrare - YOU look like a snowman to me.

I just rubbed it in my local grocer's face that I no longer consider myself a lifetime Gold member of their establishment because [ .. ] they ignored my request to add Bitcoin.
There, I found another reason to be skeptic about the success of bitcoin: bitcoiners will shop at Walmart instead of at their local grocer, therefore they will eat less healthy food, therefore the genetic predisposition to believe in privately issued cryptocurrencies will soon be weeded out of mankind's gene pool by natural selection. You are starting to make sense.
