The 1080's on Craigslist have been popping up like mad recently.  My friend returned some of his store bought cards to buy the cheaper ones.

We are loving the power coming from 1080 machines.   Quite a large amount of hashrate density.

Perhaps with the 1080Ti positioned starting at 800$....

Many 1080 owners will be going for that price point and selling off their 1080s.

It will be a nice to pickup cheap 1080s for a ZEC rig.

I think AMD has been checked mated by NVIDIA before the RX500 launch.....

@JK... do you know what are the actual powerdraws from a 1080?

a one card 1080  doing 510h  is about 172 watts.

I am learning msi settings to get good hash low power.

my 3 card rig  when assembled should do   1700-1900h   530-600 watts.

I am a rank amateur with nvidia and the EWBF_ software.

Thats about 50-60% less watts than an AMD rig !!!

My current rigs... (undervolted, underclocked to save power and amps)

1. 1000w to 1100w for 6 x RX480 at 290sols/s per card or 1740-1800-ish sols/s per rig.
2. 1100w to 1200w for 7 x R9-Nano at 390sols/s per card or 2700-2800-ish sols/s per rig.

I think ....

2 x 1080ti
1000sols per card at 200watts?
2000sols forf 2 x 1080Ti Huh

Hmmm.... this may bust the budget...... but sure is lower watts to maintain... so it may square off in the end.

Will wait for Phil's weekend review to be sure.

those are wrong by a lot.

but  my best  amd the rx 480 8gb do    are 540 h for 2 cards and 276 watts.  about 2 h for 1 watt

my one 1080 is now at 155 watts on the wall  doing 505h  that is  3.25 h for 1 watt  including  the entire rig

as I add the 2 1080 ti's  I except to improve   the h to watt numbers

the   3 cards  should be  say 1800 maybe 1900  and only  600 watts

I suspect a LOT of gamers are moving up to the 1080 TI from the 1080.

They are not a checkmate for the RX 5xx though - The 1080 and 1080 are VEGA targets, the RX 5xx is mainstream (and it's ONLY direct NVidia competition are the pair of GTX 1060 models, though the RX 480 can infringe on GTX 1070 territory sometimes on some things sorta despite being 60% more or less of the price).

The 1080 TI is still on a "new card low availability" price premium though - but even with that, it and the 1080 price drop + quite a few used 1080s being sold are exerting a LITTLE pressure on 1070 pricing.

LTC is ASIC controlled, I don't see it enabling SegWit (probably in 3 weeks or so, there's a *has to be over the threshold for 2 continuous weeks" requirement) having any effect on hashrate for other coins - though if it goes through the roof due to SegWit proponents on pricing it'll HURT profitability on everything else a bit by draining money out of other coins.

*I* on the other hand am enjoying the MAJOR improvement in income and profitability on my small A2 farm - and have been contemplating firing my Gridseeds back up once I move late this month or next month to a bigger facility with a LOT more power and circuits availability. 8-)

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

this has been around for a while.

I can do a long explanation of what is happening but the short one is Btc has extracted 16 million of 21 million coins.

The wealth is in btc addys not in  human created cyber space.

So many people have many angles  to get at that BTC.

Bitmain and asic boost  is an angle >>> not well proven BTW

LTC converting to segwit is an angle >>>>> this is happening right now as are the 3 things below

Zec being pumped by multiple companies  allowing for Zec mining for BTC by GPU's
XMR  same as above
ETH  same as above

Phil posted shots of his  second nvidia card.
He gets 1168 ZEC for 371 watts.
So I may switch to some Nvidia.

Yeah me too  here are some photos.
I opened garage door  and due to cool weather the room is only 80f

whole rig is pulling 372 on my hot kwatt meter
the other meter would read 355-260

note garage back door is open

msi settings for the 1080 ti

good air flow for the two cards  and room for one more in a slot

hashrate total of 1168

note you can see back door of the garage  on the left is about 2 feet from the rig so a good cool air supply

yeah  two cards   371 watts 1168 h for zec mining

371 watts at summer  power rates means  371 x 24 =   8904 watts  9 kwatts a day.

Even with ac  I would be under 20 cents but say 20 cents  that is 1.80 a day or 54 day 55 usd a month.

Current price of zec means 216 in usd a month

216-55 = 161 a month  in my terrible power months of

 June ,July, August, Sept,Oct

Yeah I will add the third nvidia card and move the amds to the solar array.

I guess  I will end up with 571 watts and 1820 h  for zec mining

this would be 6 or 7 cards and 935 watts if amd

Thanks Phil for review and snapshot of 1080ti.

Technically 3 cards , being 1080ti is effectively 2 singles... looks like a single 1080 is not too far out from the TI.

1080ti priced quite close to 1080s single will give it an attractive price point - esp when using such low power consumption.

This is no brainer, NVIDIA for ZEC mining will be a wise choice.

Yeah came to this conclusion .

Does not mean I will go all Nvidia .  I will keep rx 480s and the 1080 ti's along with the 1080.

Down the road maybe do a second Nvidia rig for the fall

What % difference for you? 5-15% is normal for me. maybe try increasing power limit on your gpus to 10-15%

Well it used to be a little up and a little down so i didn't care but for the past 48 hours it has been a steady 20-40% less than the reported hash rate

don't think it can work.

I think 2x   1080  ti  and the shorter 1080 can fit    on  slots  1    4    6   the short one on six

once I get  the third card I will test it that way  and test it with the one riser    to see temp differences.

I've been sitting on the fence for more than a few days, and finally pulled the trigger on a 1080ti, should be with me in a few days. The overall efficiency (as has been said before) is a no brainer for ZEC, and I read other algos should hopefully improve with updated drivers as they get released.

I'm currently fully invested in Sapphire RX470 8gb Nitro+ cards and Asrock boards with all slots full, and have a spare PSU or two.

So ... I now need to buy a board/processor/ram to run the 1080ti on (hopefully two long term) ... but which board?

Phil's Biostar Z170GT7 looks nice, but also quite pricey, especially when I factor in ram and a processor. It's easy to get to 300GBP for those items (in the UK).

Has anyone experience or ideas on a cheaper board that would take 2 cards?

OMG... 300 pounds for Z170-GT7? Thats daylight robbery.

A basic Gigabyte LGA1151 2 x slotter should be under 100 USD in Newegg.

Or maybe Phil can recommend one for you.

If I provided you good and useful info or just a smile to your day, consider sending me merit points to further validate this Bitcointalk account ~ useful for future account recovery...
