yun9999 how much did it cost to upgrade from your original 150amp  service to 550 ?  I am trying to upgrade from 200amps to 400amps and got a quote of $11K.  Also in Texas.

How are you able to get a second meter ?  I called Centerpoint and they said there is no way a residential house can have a second electrical meter.

Centerpoint is a pain in the ass to deal with. I just finished my service upgrade from a 100A to a 400A on my house. Back and forth on possible solutions. At first they said it was not possible, then they later said it was ok to have a separate meter (would have to be business). However, the transformer in my neighbor's yard had NO spare connections. I wanted a dedicated 400A service to my shed, but they wouldn't allow because there was not enough space to terminate new wires.

So, literally today, my shed was powered up. 400A service to the home through a new 100 foot run of 2 1/2" conduit, buried 20" below grade. However, they have the 80% rule, so i really only have 320A. My home now ties into that service, on a 100A panel (no changes), then we have a 225A disconnect that feeds power back to the shed's dedicated breaker panel.

11K seems high when you already have 200amp

You can have a separate meter on a detached garage or separate building on your property, I did it an added 600amps to my garage and on top of that i set it up using business info so i got far lower business rates on the seccond meter

all for 13k for 600amp

My original estimate was like 10k including digging, but that was before Centerpoint started making problems. I would expect closer to 12k.

For me the biggest cost was the digging crew.

Damn Man! I had a new 200 amp service set  for my new storage building.  I had $500 in parts to build the service(6x6 post, 200 amp box w/main for outdoor and 200 amp panel for inside, ground rod, conduit and a few other items.) Im figuring about $100 dollars for  the wire to feed the shed as thats the last thing i need to have it all finished. Entergy dropped overhead service 150 feet for free. I should have less than 1000 bucks. I was gonna go underground but he told me 3.10 per foot plus some other fees and i had to dig and put the conduit in. .....I was like is there another way? He said yeah we can go overhead for no charge to you!

If you want to do your own trench work, you have to get your utility companies to mark all the gas and Cable lines, else you would do some real damages.  You also have to follow the rule of proper depth / conduit, etc.  Permits will depend on what area you live in.    Cost all depends on who you use, licensed professional will always charge 2 arms and 1 leg.  If they let you subcontract or do some of the work, it will help reduce cost as they charge a ton for trench work.

@NavyDude - You won the lottery.  Nice deal.

EVGA SC2 are actually the best in terms of performance and heat management.  Aorus are unnecessarily FAT and you can't fit 6 into a server case or same foot print as 6 EVGA SC2.  They also don't handle heat as well and will throttle very badly.  I bought 60 Aorus but I regret that decision.  Knowing what I know now, I would rather pay the premium and get SC2.  Even within the EVGA line, there are differences in heat management which dictates performance.  A cooler card will hash the full hash rate vs losing 100+ sol when overheating.  This is why you see the 24K BTU behind the Aorus to get the full hashing power.   They are very sexy at night though, I must give them that.

Fans to help my 1080TI stay cool and sexy.

All my rigs are shut down.   Water level is breeching 30% up driveway.   It's not looking good.............7 more days of rain.    All detention ponds and bayou are breached.
Only thing we can do is pray.  Only 1 life jacket in the house, who gets it?  L3 or 1080TI?

Sounds bad...can you move everything upstairs (not to run, just to protect it)?

Oh man.,.... that is serious man ... hope everything settles down soon.

You need 4 strong pontoons below bolted to your shed and 2 anchors.

Are the rigs just shut down or destroyed by the water? I hope it's not the latter. Is there no way to evacuate at least part of the equipment?

Best wishes to you and your family!

The rigs just shut down when flooded.
You just dry them up and start them again.

If you have time to move your hardware to the highest point in your house then do so, but make sure you get yourself and family to safety as top priority. Prayers for all those being flooded in Texas right now.

not If they don't have flood insurance, which is seprate from normal insurance which doesn't usually cover floods or flooding, also knowing that only 12 percent of people in texas in and around the affected areas have flood insurance. chances are if his house flooded he may not get squat back because flooding wasn't covered

I want to say max flood insurance payout is like $250k for house(structure - maybe more if he had it registered as a business) and maybe $100k for appliances. Not sure where he is but if it was the SW side or Kingwood area he may be in a world of hurt. Spent most of this week in Kingwood helping clean up a co-workers house. Sad stuff
