the issue though with this setup is you can buy platinum roswil platinum 1k PSU's for $120 right now brand new with 5 year warranty
I have around 10 6 gpu rigs running this setup with no problems only had one die on me.

The finsky solution along with all the cables and the mother board adapaters could ealy cost 2-3 times the cost of buying normal PSU's

This math is not a good example and no way it's even more expensive never mind being 2-3 times.

4 of those Rosewill 1KW even at your Super Sales price is $480.  You really can't compare a super blow out once in a while sale but I'll use it anyway as it's an extreme example.

Finksy 4KW bundle is much less than this.  His Triple A package is $255 and includes everything you need including 30 cables, power cables, fan mount, fans, the complete deal.  Now if Finksy can get the Pico with Custom cables at $25-30 x 4 that's up to a Max of $120.  So your total price is $375.  Plus 30 more cables at $60 to power the PCI Risers is still competitive to your extreme example.

***** The MORE ACCURATE Comparison ***********

Most people are not powering just 470s or as efficient with undervolting as you Marvell.  You simply can't push 7 x 480 on a 1KW nor would you be able to do 6 x Furies, 5 x 390, Vegas, yadda yadda.  So a more accurate comparison is against 4 x EVGA 1300 which normally sell for $200-235 after tax.  Let's not count Black Friday SUPER Sales or 1 offs, let's compare average selling price, the what does it cost if I need NOW... .  We're then talking easily over $1K of PSU and they're not future proof if your rig requires more than 1000-1300w which means now have double the cost for each rig with 2 PSU and an even uglier Bird's nest in the rear blocking flow.

Don't forget even if you don't choose the 4KW bundle, and chose YSLUNG HP 1200W server PSU for separate individual controls, it's still much cheaper and you're getting Enterprise server PSU compare to consumer grade ATX.  Of course the ATX comes with better resell value and warranty which is a plus but the server PSU is so cheap, you can buy plenty of extra spares and still have money left over for Dinner and a movie with the entire family.  Also you don't have to leave your rig down for a few weeks waiting for that dead Rosewill RMA.  Spare server PSUs are like $18-45 depending on whether you're choosing HP or IBM so you can do your own immediate Warranty maintenance.   Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of places where ATX make sense like my Server case rigs but that may change in the future as well.

This is why I'm pushing hard on Finksy, Hawkfish and YSLUNG to get us GOOD PICOs for reasonable price of below $30.  If it's at $50 and above, the value proposition drops a lot.  However, wait until you see the CRAZY designs I'm going to be coming up with that is only made POSSIBLE by HAWKFISH007 PCI risers and PICOs.  IT will be BAD ass and something very unique making even pricey Picos worth it.   You also lose the Birds nest of ATX PSU and cables in the rear blocking  flow..... ...............Stay Tune...............

Three Different Designs

1) Server PSU w Picos for Server Case
2) A Standing Tower Rig
3) The most compact RISER powered stacking Rig

Have 1 server PSU HP 1200w platinum psu on ebay for only $22, some pcie cables and little home work, i not invest more of $50.
Now with 4 rx 470 and 1 rx 480 stock clocks consume a total of 720w at the wall with a little undervolt maybe much less.

Have a gold 750psu only for motherboard, processor and ssd, consumes 120w at the wall, i wanna pico solutions to replace my atx psu.

Is a cheaper way for powering a full rig.

You are missing the most important part with finksy
A Psu is 40 bucks?
You can have multiple spares, all the other gear is reusable.
You can easily have backup server psu and swap them out with VERY little work/effort/down time.

With a pc psu even if you have a warranty you are looking at 30 days return, or a pricey replacement/more work to rewire a psu. so longer down time Smiley

I don't plan on using baby ATX anymore.  I will leave existing setup the way it is as it's too much work to redo but will only be using Picos going forward for new builds.  I dont need the extra ATX clutter.  It will also allow me to do some crazy new design not capable with ATX only or Server PSU with ATX.  My hope is that Finksy can deliver these Custom Picos for $25-30.  Just waiting for Finksy to come back from Vacation to send me my new order of gears so I do my builds.

When building our rigs, we MUST plan not just for the current rig try to make it future proof if possible and cost effective.  It won't be fun to have 40 x 1000W PSU, just to have to sell them in Ebay come June should the Vega or future gen GPU not be as efficient as RX470.  It won't be fun to keep them and as may 2 x 1KW setup per Rig either.  Even when we size a solution based on the current mining software, we are forgetting that future mining software may be as high as 50% more power usage so it's best to leave room for buffer.  Remember V1 of Zec mining was almost 50% less power than current version and then there's Dual mining to take into consideration.

For Hobbyist, buying a few small PSU is fine.  If you want to scale, you want a solution can handle current need while giving you the flexibility for future changes.  Now when you pair that with Sexy Picos and you're able to do it better and cleaner?  It's a winner.  But choose what you're comfortable with.  There is NO Perfect 1 size fit all solution.  I like to invest in a variety just to find out what I prefer myself and whenever there's a Killer sales for Platinum or good PSU, I always buy some just because I know I can use those for a few years and still be able to sell them at the same price later  (ie I got my EVGA Platinum 1200s on Jet.com for $146).

I'm wanting someone to make a pci-e to 7 pci plug adaptor. a way to neatly and easily power all the risers off a single cable.

That's asking for trouble.  Each PCIE connection for the riser can consume up to 75W each!  1 x 6 Pin cable will not be able to support that and you will melt that cable.  The max you should really be trying to split is for 2 connections.

it was already there but got "deleted" anyway here it is, as i mentioned before i'm not a fan of messy setup.

all cables are hooked up ! except for CPU was waiting for stock to arrive.

very nice & clean setup, are you inserting some cables into your tubes or they're just attached ? would love some more pics hehe. Awaiting you pico's too, they sound really nice. where are you located ysly ? kinda bad for me to order from US :/ would love to find nice product from EU  Cool

wow thats the most beautiful setup i have ever seen, what power supplies are those ?

I'm located in asia. i'm out of stock atm, let's see how things goes. yes the cables are hidden in the bars.

they are HP server 1200W Platinum PSU's. small, light weight, direct PnP & power is perfect for a 6x GPU rig even dual mining. But you will need an input of at least 208V to get 1200W (Max) if it's 110V then you will get 900W.

this is a good (possible safe) solution & YES, PLEASE take note of the power requirements even powering from a server psu ! normally the early signs of failure will be a color change on the pcie cables near to the connectors & the cables will be hard to twist, turn or bend it feels different from a normal pcie cable. when it melts then its too late, sometimes most do not notice them until the other end of the pcie connector on the psu melts. ahhh, even the hashing will be weird too, either too high or too low or the gpu keeps on failing.

LEFT 3 are for RX gpus RIGHT are for older gen gpus than needs 6+8 pcie

You are missing the most important part with finksy
A Psu is 40 bucks?
You can have multiple spares, all the other gear is reusable.
You can easily have backup server psu and swap them out with VERY little work/effort/down time.

With a pc psu even if you have a warranty you are looking at 30 days return, or a pricey replacement/more work to rewire a psu. so longer down time Smiley
finsky 2000 wat psus are $40? thats nice but ive found with finsky the larger
part of the cost is the cables and breakout board

the issue though with this setup is you can buy platinum roswil platinum 1k PSU's for $120 right now brand new with 5 year warranty

Way cheaper than your extreme example.

You are correct but. I think he meant. If your farm has two or three or four psus running from finksy

You should have a spare one as the psu cost 40.

Now not to knock finksy and the dips-2000 psu.

His breakout boards fits the dps 2500 psu.

Far better psu it will do  2300 watts  not 2000 like the dps 2000.
It also is a true gold. 91 %

The dps 2000 is a very good silver 87%.

If you are going to use the finksy breakout boards. Try to find the dps 2500 not the dps 2000.

Sometimes I find them for 70 bucks on eBay.

Yeah each 2KW PSU is only $40-45 retail.  I just reuse mine from the Bitcoin mining so zero cost for me.  The HP 1200W PSU are like $18-25 and much cheaper in Bulk.  Cables for servers PSU are interchangeable as they are just standard 6 pin vs proprietary for ATX PSU.  They are are super cheap comparing to paying $8+ for each EVGA cable and you will need it for dual port GPUs as each EVGA only come with around 2 dual PCI cables.  I think we quickly forgot that not too long ago we had to use Dual PSU to power just 1 rig due to cabling and max power.  This may reoccur again with Vega 10 or more power hungry cards just like Furies.

The beauty of it is that, if you want to get PLATINUM, you just change 2 PSU in the bundle.  Platinum for ATX is ridiculously expensive.   I'm not saying server PSU is the solution for it all.  I'm just saying we should be more open minded on our solutions.   Just wait until you see the Prototypes coming out of my LAB..........   Simply not possible designs with ATX.  Just FYI, I still love my EVGAs and are still buying a ton of them.

It will be HOT...............................

@Phillip - That's correct it's better to get the Platinum and it will work with the same board.  Do you recall the Revision # for the DPS 2500 that will work with the board?  I know that some versions won't work.  I had to find out the hard way.  =(

They are all in the solar array I don't recall off hand which ones works.

My four card rigs   Work great with the evga p2 750 which I sometimes get for 113 usd.

GUYS - Citronick / Phillip , can u guys test this?  I'm traveling and won't be home for a few more days so I can't confirm.

This is for the Z170 GT7 Racing MB.  Biostar support say it should be able to support 7 GPU via risers no issues.  Can either of you test and then confirm?

Dear sir

Please follow the following web-site and try again once,

(1) set all PCI-E at gen2

(2)go to BIOS " Chipset" > System Agent (SA) Configuration > Max TOLUD > Set to [3.5GB]

Dear sir

(1) set all PCI-E at gen2

(2)go to BIOS " Chipset" > System Agent (SA) Configuration > Max TOLUD > Set to [3.5GB]

I will be going to warehouse later in the evening when its not too hot and will test those BIOS settings.

Hope it works. If yes, then I dont need the  PCI-USB splitter.

With 7 x high end cards on the board.... I wonder if the this Biostar can properly allocate the power to each card only from the PSU.

In case of the H81s, a powered molex onto the mobo itself, provides extra juice when the GPUs need them avoiding stress on the already powered risers. Without this fail-safe feature, power overdraw to the risers will occur and expect some flying sparks.

Probably don't need to power the MB to support 7 GPUs like Z97 gaming 5 which handles 7 GPUs fine. I also don't use Molex for H81, always pressed ctrl N to avoid future messages. If it works, people who bought 20+ Z170 hit the jackpot!

It should as the MB is not providing power to the GPUs.  It's the POWERED risers that is for the 7.  I never use the Molex for the MB other than for the H97 anniversary which I hated because I had to do that.  I also want to avoid this as I want to use Server PSU with Pico so it would be a no no for me.
