I would say it was time to get a trezor or a ledger.
But now is too late for all those bitcoins are gone. Lips sealed

This guy has lost 103 bitcoins he mined back in 2011 and then lost his wallet dat file similar to what I have done but wow this guy must be gutted the amount of money he has lost compared to me

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

It is such a shame that people keep losing their coins, I know it happens and I hope that never happens to me but people need to have some backups you cannot have such a huge amount of bitcoins and not being able to access them in any way or form I could understand that some people lost their coins when bitcoin was not worth anything but once bitcoin began raising in value it should have been obvious that you should store them just in case it reached a huge price.

I think it's not too late to buy a trezor or a ledger and we can start to move our bitcoin that we still have and I think we need to do this before our bitcoin gets stolen. it is better to prevent the other people that have a bad purpose to us so we could still keep our bitcoin in our secure wallet. and yes, we can learn from this sad story so we don't need to have the same experience like him.

This is a huge sum of money. Losing such a huge stack of money would hit me hard and almost anyone no matter how rich they are, but this clearly demonstrates the importance of securing our assets for the future. I advice everyone to secure all their assets(bitcoin and altcoins) since they could potentially make you rich if you secured them in the right manner through hardware wallets or paper wallets etc. Do not leave your money on exchanges and don't depend on online wallets

You are always warned to be mindful of your wallet , private and public keys. If any of them falls into wrong hands you are finished.

I think that quite a number of folks have fallen into the mistake of mining bitcoins and throwing away the hardware or using a substantial amount of the bitcoins in the early years to pay for a paltry thing like a drink or something that was not quite commensurate to what the value of the bitcoins is.  I am not aware that there may be a way to crack a wallet whose keys have been lost or misplaced. Best of luck for you in the future.

that's a real shame. 103 bitcoin, ouch. I guess we attach value to what its worth at the time and that wasn't much back then. The thing with these stories is that he could have replaced them without much cost, but he didn't. So its not that he lost his private key, its that he never bought any more replacement bitcoins because he never knew they would be worth $20K one day. Who would have.

It's just as an initial explosion and if I feel like this I will be depressed. To rest or get people to work for you. Hopefully the wallet can be found if the person can track it. Cool

The guy's really sorry. There is nothing sadder to have a huge amount of money and not have access to it. But I hope that somehow you can resolve this situation by contacting the developers (if only theirs can find....).

To be honest, this story is a little like the truth. But if it is real, then the guy is very unlucky. It is unlikely that he will be able to access these bitcoins.

That's just a bummer! But hey, bad things happen and sometimes there's nothing we can do about them. He admitted though that he had made some personal errors which caused this problem. 103 BTC is undoubtedly a lot of money! And losing that much can make anyone lose his mind and go crazy! But he shouldn't give up there. If he could no longer retrieve his wallet, then he can just keep on mining. Have a new start and avoid making the same mistake.

This just goes to show how HODLing too long can cause complacency.  You have to remain active in that which you believe in and even take the necessary precautions to ensure you don't lose what could amount to millions.

I think the most popular problem before the miners who have mined a lot of bitcoin, they want to keep it real but unfortunately because they are looking for some security for their bitcoin, they destroy their storage while backing it up and unfortunately, they can not back up it.
Back in those years bitcoin was not so valuable at the time, so it's okay for him not to recover it because nobody expects bitcoin to be at this stage.

I would kill myself if that happens to me, haha, just a joke, but no one can really be happy if he/she lost more than a one million dollars! I mean, i would not even know how i could react.

That is why the hardware wallets have ever existed, and i remember that i started mining on 2013 and i did not even stored my bitcoins on my pc, everything was on my paper wallet and i switched to hardware lately on 2015.

Easy come easy go. I know you were joking with your suicide remark here, but I just want to remind everyone that money is not the most important thing in life.
While it's true that life without money is terrible and disappointing for most people but as long as we live there is a chance to find happiness in life.
You can store your bitcoin on your PC, but you need backup - I doubt that both backup and original data will be destroyed at the same time.

If we think of BTCs ATH price then it definitely sucks (over USD 2 million lost!). But who knows, considering he mined them sometime in 2011 he could have easily sold them that same year when it peaked at USD 31 or at some other point before BTC made it really big in 2017.

That's a total disaster because he can't recover his wallet's .dat file. Maybe he's not so interested in bitcoin before and has given less focus to bitcoin without knowing that bitcoin will be the future gold of today.
