I wish this guy recover from this gravious loss. He just have to be manly and pick up again especially when Bitcoin price had now plummed compared back as at then. This is however a great lesson for us to encrypt our Wallets with pass-phrase or actually store them outside the computer in an Hardware like ledger Nano especially where huge amount is involved.

103 Bitcoin is a fortune, losing such is not a very good thing, But unfortunately it has happened, i thing regaining them is almost an imposiblity as the wallet is mot of the times encrypted to the individual's liking, if he cant remember what the details are then its impossible to regain the BTC, ts even useless to try getting them back

That is so terrible, wow!  It makes me want to be extra careful with anything that I have.  It looks like he lost about a million dollars worth of bitcoin!  2 million if he would have sold when it was higher!

He must be devastated losing that a lot of bitcoin. First rule always apply, don't loss your key or else you are really doom. Back then bitcoin was not much appreciated and mining was easy back then, so now he or she be an instantly rich right now if did not forgot his keys. Maybe this serves a lesson to stay vigilant and always have a back up, it will come in handy in the future.

This guy has lost 103 bitcoins he mined back in 2011 and then lost his wallet dat file similar to what I have done but wow this guy must be gutted the amount of money he has lost compared to me

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

Tough luck right? We usually commit some stupid and negligent moves in our lives coz we were lazy and lax resulting to loses. But sometimes we need to experience these things so that we would be moulded into a better person. 103BTC's is undoubtedly a huge amount today. But it's better to move on and start over rather that drowning ourselves in the mistakes of the past. Learn and move forward!

well if you can get those btc right now then probably you will be rich by now that if you were not having some wealth though as of this moment but it could really add up your asset. Come to think of it 103 BTC is a good number acquired and that is a huge money if it is being converted to fiat money. More or less you can buy hotel for that one i guess or you can raise your preferred business. Unfortunately you were giving up? I do hope that somehow you could retrieve your BTC so that you can have your wealth. Anyway have you try to call an expert on retrieving deleted files from your desktop or where you have lost it? I bet it could be recover.

these cases is the reason for increments of bitcoin value every year. bitcoin demands keep increasing.
but in other hand, bitcoin circulation supply may decreased because peoples lost their wallet.

This study is nothing more than a shot in the dark. They are estimating the number of lost coins based on the addresses that weren't used for a long time. Cheesy

I know you were clowning with your suicide comment here, however I simply need to remind everybody that cash isn't the most imperative thing throughout everyday life.

While it's valid that existence without cash is horrendous and disillusioning for the vast majority yet as long as we live there is an opportunity to discover bliss throughout everyday life.

You can store your bitcoin on your PC, yet you require reinforcement - I question that both reinforcement and unique information will be annihilated in the meantime.

Well, this is pretty sad, but no one can help it. Maybe someone will develop a  Algorithm to recover these coins in the future.

Guess how many Bitcoins are stuck in such situation? 100,000 pieces?

Many people don't have much knowledge about wallets backup and never backup their wallet.dat file when they format their system and then never recover that file and coins. Always do a backup of your wallet.file in routine and safe that file so if you lost your wallet due to any reason, you can recover it with your saved .dat file. This is the only way to recover your wallet if you loss your wallet due to any reason otherwise you are empty handed.

It really says something about the security that bitcoin has. EVen with people all around to see your money they can't get to it. ALthough in this case, even the owner. So let's be careful guys!
really good advice for the heads up and this gut lost 103 bitcoins must be not happy but he can do mining again and get them back soon

That amount is more than enough for me to live an abundant life. But back to the guy that had lost that 103 btc, I can't blame him if he'd carelessly lost it because no one in this world have predicted that btc will reach thousand of dollars after a decade.

if the person has already volunteered the loss in 2011 I think he did not feel lost at all because at that time bitcoin value is not as big as now that reaches thousands of dollars. it should be addressed to us that we should really protect every detail of our wallets so we can enjoy the results of our hard work. Bitcoin last year was still undervalued but it's now worth millions of dollars and that's very sad.

It is very surprising if this really happened. When this happens it remainds us to always be careful.

If he lost that year, I do not think he was too upset because I thought that bitcoin had a low value. if he keeps it until now and he lost 103 BTc recently, I think he must have been very stressed and succumbed to crypto.
