Inside miner's code there is this comment

Code:
//maximum chip speed available for auto tuner
//speed/nrate/hrate/watt
//   53/   97/  100/  84
//   54/   98/  107/  88
//   55/  101/  115/  93
//   56/   99/  125/  99

So yes, 55 is speed with max noncerate.

Thanks in advanced for your help..

If you have a v1 M-board, you can only use 1 EOL H-board. If you have a v2 M-board, you can use as many as 4 EOL H-boards, but still at the end of the chains.

Does anyone have input on my underperforming board?  It looks like there are a lot of MISO errors but I don't know which chip is producing them or how to disable the chip.

Kit #1 (3 H boards):
I need help or suggestions for tuning it correctly.  I put resistors at 1170ohm to 1250ohm as soom boards did not like it when I lowered the resistance on the resistor.  It looks like I got some bad chips.  What do you guys suggest?
Here is my log for kit#1:

I've setup 3 kits now:  Originally I had 5.  I only have walmart fans blowing on them.  A/C set at 76F.  Resistors at 1.18 K ohm to 1.31 k ohm.

Kit #1; 2 cards;  Noncerate: 72.227GH/s
Kit #2; 2 cards;  Noncerate: 69.521GH/s

Kit #3; 1 card; Noncerate: 26.038GH/s

Kit #1 is stock but gives miso errors.  I'm guess this is because chip #2 is screwed up right??  What do i do from here?  Manually clock the bad tooth down?

Try the newest version of chainminer, IIRC it could help with miso-errors. Just run git pull && make clean && make in the chainminer directory. Obviously after making a backup Wink

Abracadabra. Would love to end my MISO-error party, but can you please get one level lower on the raspi skill ladder.

So the software 'knows' where to get the git?

And we only run the command "git pull && make clean && make"in the folder /opt/bitfury/chainminer/ .

Do we need root access to do this, or is user "pi" good enough for this task?

I'd love to just try and break something to learn afterwards how to repair and prevent it, but in this case, I'm going to arrange the backup first.

EDIT: Tnx for indexing puffmais. In fact, it is the second post ;-)

EDIT2: Improvement of about 20 GH to 50 GH on 2-board Starter Kit ~ 1 board pencil modded, which already threw out a lot of MISO-errors, which automagically disapperead after updating the chainminer.

I normally get the same miso error you show here on the 1st chip when I just fire up the BF.
A little later it disappears and all is good.
I am thinking it would be more of a problem if the number was higher then 1 it would start showing miso errors on the rest of the chips on that card.
I am thinking you're ok.

Which M board do you have.? Did you buy from EU or US.?

Also can anyone confirm that it reduces miso errors on v 2.3 M-Board from US sales.?

I'm going to be hardware modifying my boards when I get them. If you're doing the pencil mod using a graphite pencil you'd modify resistor R02F to get a lower ohms reading between 1.1k-1.2k ohms. From my reading it appears this increases the voltage.

Now if I'm actually going to be desoldering and from reading c-scapes post it seems to be better to desolder R01F resistor and increase the resistance to 1.5k ohms which bumps the voltage from .65v to .70v.

Is there a reason why one should hardware mod R01F resistor over hardware modding the R02F resistor. To me it appears both mods accomplish doing the same thing, that is bumping up voltage which increases clock speed.

R01F resistor I'm looking at getting. Which of these 3 would you recommend. I know the thin film resistors are typically more precise at .5%, or should I go with the thick film 1% tolerance that can handle more wattage. I wasn't sure of the minimum resistor wattage recommended.

Thin Film low watts 62.5 mW

Thick film high watts 250 mW

Thick film 100 mW

Also I believe their is an error here. In the picture below it says R02F resistor is 10k ohms but right below that it says for the pencil mod to verify it is 1.3k ohms. I bolded the words in orange so others can verify this

Note: if you accidentally mess up the capacitor next to the resistor (C10F), and you wish to replace it, use 1nF, 50V, X7R type. Similarly, resistor R02F is 10k, 1%.
[/quote]

a) Get an Ohmmeter or DMM

b) Get an HB or softer Pencil

c) Locate R02F resistor. Donot mod R01F.

d) Make sure R02F measures 1.3KOhm

e) Rub pencil on the surface of R02F 3 - 4 times

f) Measure resistance, if it's 1.2K plug the board in

g) Measure output voltage, and repeat steps e,f if necessary for fine-tuning Wink

h) Hash like a boss

i got those pictures sent from a user ...

to guide through the process of the pencil mod ....

***be aware that you loose warranty of the h-board in doing this ... and you can brick your board!!!***

details:

- temp +10-15°
- 1.6 times higher electricity needed
- up to 50% increased hashrate

Step 1: unplug your h-board ... and locate the R02F Resistor

Step 2: use ur multimeter on the resistor and verify that it shows 1.3k Ohm

Step 3: use a HB (medium grade) pencil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pencil) and rub 2-3 times

Step 4: use ur multimeter on the resistor and check how much it was lowered in resistance ...as long as your higher then 1.2k restart step 3 & step 4 ... if it is under 1.2k just swip a little with your finger ...

Wattage isn't important, but you should pick a resistor with low temperature coefficient, to reduce the effects of a warming board causing the voltage to drift up.

Also, as well as 1.5k you should get 2.2k and maybe 2.7k.

Thanks cscape for the information. I'll be modding probably at least 150 of these boards between my setup and friends being I have a nice soldering station and hot air station so I'll try a variety of these resitance values. Do you have an idea of what 2.2k ohms and 2.7k ohms equates to approximate voltage values. It will be interesting to see how these boards perform

oh yeah did you see my question in the above post about the potential error I highlighted in orange about the R02F resistance values.

2.2k results in about 0.75V. I haven't tried 2.7k yet, but I did try 3.3k, and that was too much.

Yes, the resistor is 10k, but people are measuring it in-circuit and getting distorted values.

Oh ok, that makes sense now.

So another question for you. Do you happen to know what the masterboard rated safe wattage is. From what I've seen a full loaded bitfury setup takes around 400 watts. Being that there are 2 6 pin pci express connectors which are normally rated for 75 watts and an 8 pin is rated for 150 watts. Both the 6 pin and 8 pin have 3 hot wires while the 8 pin has 2 more grounds.

With an overclocked complete bitfury 400 ghash units possibly overclocked to 500 ghash or more, do you think the master board is capable of handling 500-600 watts through just 2 6 pin pci express connectors. I know most quality psu's use 18 ga wire which can handle 10 amps each (not that I'd want to run that much current through 18ga), would mean the wire is good for 600 watts, but is the masterboard capable of this?

Otheriwse it may be better to only run 12 overclocked boards in each master and just run additional masterboards and raspberry pi's to not over draw to much current

Short answer,  yes.

The six 12v lines coming from the PSU are good to at least 9A each so more than enough margin.  The board appears to be able to handle the increased wattage so far.

This is a major concern of mine as well.  I think some power supplies will get melted if OC and max capacity (all 16 slots) take place.
