You only lose money when you sell. You have to remember that, to prevent you from losing money in the future. If the price goes up to $20 000, later this year, then you might say that you made a profit of $8000. <Once again if you sold it>

You are not yet loosing money. If you sell it, then only you will loose, otherwise not. However, a lot of people are in the same situation as you are. I know some person who bought bitcoin at 18k and 20k during last year's surge when everyone was very positive about it. They are making an even huge loss. But now my question to you is, what is your outlook about bitcoin? Are you in need of an emergency fund?

Do you have a plan when you bought the coin. If you are planning to hold it for long term then execute that plan and do not check the prices daily, you will just stress your self and you might sell it for a loss. The price will rise in time, just trust bitcoin.

Hey, you seem to have bought it at a very high price and I can understand your concerns which are valid.

However my advise to you is to avoid taking any rash decisions that may incur you looses. Bitcoins should easily touch 9k in 3 -5 days. Then going ahead it shall rise if you're able to hodl it, I would advise you to do it.

We have seen similar corrections many times before too but trust me none of them remain too long, market will soon start to recover from this dips.

My personal opinion is that you have to hold them and wait. Maybe it will have to be longer, at least 5-6 months, but there is no point in selling them at a loss.

Don't panic. I think it's only temporary. I still have bitcoin, and now the price of bitcoin has dropped a lot, but I believe that bitcoin will recover soon. What we need to do is to wait patiently. I had pretty much the same situation at my hand two months ago. Instead of 0.5, I had 8 Bitcoins, and the price was 14k$ back then.
I got greedy and thought maybe the price would go till 20k$ and kept holding on to my bitcoin, but then came a steep fall and bitcoin fell by 50%. It broke my heart and it took me a few days to come out of the shock. But then, I wanted to recover my somehow and decided to do something about it. So I sold my BTC at the current market price and started waiting for further falls. Luckily after that BTC witnessed 3 major falls and I was able to recover almost half of what I had lost.
So, even if you are losing, try buying BTC for lesser price every time there is a dip and then recover your losses by selling it higher. This way you will cover up your earlier lost amount.

Don't be mate. It's just how this market goes. This similar incident happened last year when Bitcoin fell around the 5k mark, only to see it rise to staggeringly to around 17k even to 19k dollars in just a span of two months. Therefore, even if you feel that you have already lost a good 5k dollars due to what's happening now, as long as you have your coins in holding, you can't say that with finality. Just be patient and wait for it to rise up, if you're patience is already on the edge, it would be a better idea if you would dispose it for profit as soon as you break even with your investment. There isn't any reason to sell Bitcoin. The price is declining all the time even though there aren't as many negative news as positive ones. People simply started to take FUD too seriously which results in constatly loss of Bitcoin value. If I were you I would try to stop reading about Bitcoin if you are only interested in money. At some point when bitcoin was "down" to about $350 per I gave out a bunch in 1/10th pieces (not one regret in doing that).

It has been a ride and a half and will continue to be.

I wouldn't even think about selling at this point, you are already at a loss, don't make it any worse by selling now. Indeed, the market is in a pretty bad state currently and I can imagine how anxious and stressful it can be, especially for long-term holders with a large sum of BTC. The only thing I would suggest is patience, we cannot predict whether the price will recover soon or not to fully recover your losses, but at least make sure you wait a few months before taking any action. Do you have any choice? I kind of take this question as a very easy case. When you have several choices and they are all good, it is expected that you will find it hard to choose which one is the best. But then with your case, there seems to be only one good option to take and that is to keep holding your Bitcoin. You bought your Bitcoin at $12,000 and then at the moment it is already valued at $7,000. That means in terms of value it has already lost some good $5,000. That is already big enough loss. If you keep it, it will rise back sooner or later. If you let it go, you will only seal your $5,000 loss. Which one is a much better choice then?

We have the same experience, I usually stressed and depressed when I am holding a bigger value of bitcoin because bitcoin usually dump down slowly and I feel that if it goes down it will continuously goes down. You haven't loose any thing mate, just dont panic sell the btc and the best thing you can do now is keep the btc safe in a secure wallet, avoid any error that can lead to the wallet been hack and buy more bitcoin before the market recover because the market recover.

The reason why you felt frustrated is because you’re thinking way too advance mate. It’s not like you sold your bitcoin already. Well I don't think that my advice can fix something I just hope that you did not borrow money for that. That it was your money and it's much more simple to hold it in that way. Anaway you should focus on some techincal aspects : read books, this forum you should read more and BTC in general what changed lately, what is lightening network is and why it's so important. Now you have time for that because I think you can't trade now so you'll back when you'll be ready. Read about wallets. Exodus and MEW would be good to start. MAybe you change you mind and change bitcoin to alcoins or something. Your mind should work. Worth thing in that situations is looking to price and wait when it will grow again! There you go, if you still holding your BTC then we have already started to move towards the highs of the bitcoin.This will be expected in the same manner as you went down from 12k to 6k the only thing that will happen is, it will reverse now. 
We do have reached the 7K already. So you can expect the journey in following way,

You should take a look at historical price graphics of bitcoin and calm down.
Don't invest money into bitcoin which you can not afford to loose is also a good idea to stay away from depression.

It often shows decreasing, and honestly it gets me panicked. However I believe the price will recover. I just don't know exactly when. Yeah theres no such thing as gaining and gaining profits forever.
Once you invest in cryptocurrencies you should know and accept the risk that it will cause in the future.
Bitcoin is not for short term people, if you think about future, then just hold it, it will eventually break your loses.
Also just invest only the amount that you can afford to lose.

You haven't lost anything yet because you have not yet sold it. There is nothing you really can do but to hold and wait. If you think that the prices will continue to drop (which is not) then go and cut your losses and sell it.

HODL! This is my only advice to you. If you sell, that is the end of the whole story. Do not do that because you will only cut prematurely the ride of your portfolio. You are not giving it a chance to get back and recover. Stay patient because your portfolio is safe with Bitcoin. Your heart is not needed here. Your head is the one that is necessary. Leave your heart from any of this and it will heal... along with your portfolio.

I understand how depressing it can be, but I guess with this kind of situation you need to be strong. Market condition may not always be in your favor, but never forget that holding needs patience and persistency. Don't ever get frustrated, life's like that, it has its high and low side but be positive, it will eventually and gradually rise. Just don't lose hope.

You only lose money when you sell. You have to remember that, to prevent you from losing money in the future. If the price goes up to $20 000, later this year, then you might say that you made a profit of $8000. <Once again if you sold it>

For me, my suggestion is to continue holding your your bitcoin and have patience waiting for the right time to sell your bitcoin. We don't know what will be the value of bitcoin in the future so we all hope that the price of bitcoin will rise soon.

In my own insight I will continue holding my bitcoin because we could not predict the future it may pump along the way. Bitcoin price is unpredictable it is low as of this moment but we don't know maybe it will rise to 1million$ so, I will hold it and sell it in the right time. I wait for the big value/price.
