The title of this thread is bit provocative, but the fact is that most people have a bad experience with airdrops. According to several airdrop hunters I spoke to, the majority ICOs don't pay out at all.

What's your experience with airdrops? Did you get scammed most of the times?

No, this is only 2018 current condition. If I compare with last year (2017) there are many legit airdrops. Like BLUE, ELTCOIN, EREAL, BITWHITE, REBL, and many more. So, I can say 2018 is the worst time for airdrop. I think the last Airdrop which gives good token was POLYMATH.

This has become a thing since erc20 tokens got popular.
I feel like it would be more suitable to say "99% of token airdrops are scams".
(of course there will be scams outside of the whole token airdrop scene as well, but I'd bet my money on it that the amount of scams with tokens is abundantly bigger)

Those tokens are too easy to create and were always almost instantly tradeable on etherdelta.
Mix in an airdrop to get a community going and start dumping, before you have ever put in any dev work at all.

So far I have not been scammed in airdrops, maybe because I just joined very recently.
Or maybe because I only participate in airdrops when it's managed by dev team whom gained my trust.
I believe in the latter reason.

You are correct most of them are scam. The Airdrop project owners are thieves who are only interested in the donation they will get from unsuspecting hunters that will donate their hard earned Ether which they claimed to be used as gas or a support their effort in listing their scamming token.

The title of this topic is not very provocative. In fact the name roughly corresponds to the way things really are. That's why I'm not involved in airdrops.

It must be said that quite a lot of airdrop is not worth or hyped up! Consider and invest in large quantities

Well, I think most of airdrops are indeed scams and even for those that do provide airdrops, they are not worth much. However, I did get some good airdrops recently. For example, airdrops from Havven gave me $150 worth of tokens so that’s not bad. And I do get decent amount around $10-20 for many airdrops including ChainLink. If you think about it, that’s not too bad. Considering that you apply to 100, which takes around 2 minutes per each, and you can get 10% that are legit. It can be quite profitable.

The only airdrops that are not scams are airdrops of real ICO projects like Havven or "almost ICOs" like Polymath. The rest is pure garbage.

Do not join any airdrops that has been advertise through telegram specially when bot do the updates on new airdrops around, since their is no proof that the ICO exists nor true, but don't base your 99% accusation base on your conversation alone.

Maybe. Many ico only offer ideas and call for capital from angel investors. Then they are on the exchange, helping to increase the value of their possessions on the token they hold. As for the money they earned at ico, many people did not invest in the product as originally promised. That is really scam

I think you are being too conservative with your estimates here in this thread.  Let's throw more realistic numbers around when talking about a distributional method that has no transparency and no regulation.

I do not agree with this. Depends on the manager of the bounty, depends on the project. Many people also make such a statement about ICO. However, as you know, this is not so

So many people around me have being hacked through filling airdrop form. It is a fastest and easiest way of getting coin but be very careful while doing airdrop.

I don't understand the people who trying to catch these airdrops every day. For the most part it useless. But some of them definitly not scam. Many good projects cancel their ICO and will do airdrop instead. Difinity for example recently decided to cancel public sale and make airdrop for the early supporters.

Not all airdrop is bad, select and search for information about the airdrop you wish to participate in then you will get a valuable coin. A lot of airdrop now but we have to choose before we participate in the project.
