The only safe way to store you alts is to store them in a hardware wallet such as Ledger or Trezor. When you generate a seed using a hardware wallet it is not shared with the computer system and hence even if your computer is having any kind of malware or virus, the seed can never be compromised. The best way to protect your altcoin is to store it to your trusted wallet; do not let others to get your information, passwords etc. Thus, always keep your privacy on yourself.

1) buy a Hardware wallet like Ledger Nano S or TREZOR and buy it directly from their website (not AMAZON, ebay etc...)
2) store your private keys (for coins that hardware wallet does not support) in a safe place (NOT on your device).
3) save websites url  on your  favourites and double check address .
4) use a good antivirus and updated OS

Do not uncover your private key, use 2fa, use strong passwords, use Metamask browser extension. Be sober always with your funds.

I think that  you shouldntr try to use app or web wallet, beside, use only hardwallet and metamask extension to proctect your coins these two are the most basic yet handy things you should have when you are holding big amount of crytocurrenc assets. Cheesy

You have to use and turn on all security features on the exchange and when login always from bookmark link, never click on the unknown link and important to use privasi email address for each exchange account. And use only clean device that no malware to access account of  exchange and personal wallet, also use anti virus for all devices.

Head is the most important safety. If you are stupid, then no SOFTWARE or techniques will not save you. Get acquainted with the methods of hacking, and learn not to fall for them. Smiley

If in my opinion, A reliable way is not to store passwords and keys on the computer.Use a USB flash drive or a paper.Stop clicking suspicious links and pop ups, check if the website is secure and always check anything you're going to download. the only reason why hackers have the access on your account is because they successfully get your key.

if you are trading tokens on ethereum, i recommend looking into decentralized exchanges. the biggest difference between centralized exchanges like coinbase, kraken and bitfinex and decentralized exchanges is that decentralized exchanges do not users funds. no one can ever access your funds other than you. so it can be stolen unless your private keys are compromised.

Make sure that when you are storing your coins that you are using wallets in which you control the email and passwords and also the private keys are stored by you and not by the site which is hosting the wallet. Also you should refrain from storing your coins on exchanges as they are not safe there. Thirdly, a decentralized exchanged when you are trading is the best option.

I think you should avoid going to phishing sites and then install anti-virus software on both the computer on which you're storing altcoins and on your mobile phone.

For altcoins that are highly popular and listed on major exchange sites. Please choose one of the exchange sites such as bittrex, bitfinex or binance, okek to store them. In my opinion, it has a higher level of security than MEW, metamask a lot. I realize that many people still have the habit of storing altcoin, tokens, and ethics on MEW. That's really dangerous. I have seen hackers infiltrate and misappropriated some money + token on my friend MEW wallet. The fact that, when you feel secure about your property is safe in one place. You can invest more in them. Of course, you need time to evaluate them before making a decision.
