I think you hit some important points.

 It's very suspicious to me, that right after all of the fraud allegations started being mentioned, some guy comes in with a template website and some seemingly professional words claiming to be starting some type of "protection service" called the UABB. If this thing isn't a scam, I don't know what is.

Use an encrypted OS (etc. Ubuntu) where only BitCoin is installed. Most of the time it hasn't to be connected to the internet - only if you want to send some bitcoins to someone else.

You can also use a paper wallet—that's even more secure. Check out the Guide to Paper Wallets for that.
