we should not assume the block explorer is always on the longest chain, should we?

not really, the block explorer depends on the peer like all other nodes. one hour ago the explorer
was on another chain for a short time but atm it seems fine so far..

ps: i deactivated the stats view, because i have had massiv bot-requests on this page.
the attacker is clever, because he knew this page eats the most cpu resources to deliver.

This is Application level attack. Low-level ddos won't help much.
