Crimean Tatars are about 10-12% of the population of Crimea, and that would make 0.1-0.2% of the population of Russia.

Russian Federation already includes the Republic of Tatarstan with 53.2% tatars population according to 2010 Census. It also includes Republic of Bashkortostan with 25.4% tatars population according to 2010 Census.

It happened before in my country , people we're saying:
in the 50's learn Russian , after that for a while french and english , then german , japanese for a few years, then english and now german is sharing the interest with english again.
And every time people argue that this one will become the ruling language.
60 years passed and ... nothing happened.

 - Crimea - a region unconstitutionally annexed to Ukraine in 1954, with Russian majority, which always had a very strong reunification movement.

@niothor: The irony is that we still continue to call such a "predominant" international language as "lingua franca" Russia itself had seen a series of must-know languages for any educated person - first Greek, then French, then German, and now English.

Can't argue with that, but the point is not Russia winning, but not letting NATO win. Some goods need to be purchased from abroad, and buying them from India, China or Brazil would be preferable in the current political climate. I predict that the true winner in this situation will be China.

That article talked about foods, mainly from Spain, Holland and Poland.
Potentially Russia can be self-sustained, but the industry and production were systematically destroyed and left in neglect after the SU dissolvment. The sanctions might be just what the doctor ordered to bring Russian home production back on track.

Crimea has already officially introduced the ruble as a second currency along with the Ukrainian hryvna. On Monday the republic also created the Bank of Crimea and announced that all budget incomes, which up until now were being transferred to Kiev, will now be credited to the republic's accounts. The dual currency will be in place for about six months.

Russian Federation, the Republic of Crimea, and the City of Sevastopol signed a mutual agreement of accepting Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol into Russian Federation, and creation of new subjects inside Russian Federation. The document was signed by RF President Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the state senate of Republic Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov, Chairman of the Cabimet of Ministers of Republic of Crimea Sergje Aksjonov, and chairman of coordination committee of the Sevastopol city government Aleksej Chalov:

Note that Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol are two separate jurisdictions.

PS: I just love reading comments, where people give heartfelt thanks to Obama and his spending of 5 billion of American taxpayers' dollars on creating such conditions in Ukraine, where regions flee the county and seek reunification with the mainland.

Maybe this is Obama's covert way of finally justifying his Nobel Peace Prize?
