...when 1 ice cream will cost BTC0.0000000000001

For an ice-cream to cost BTC0.0000000000001, one Bitcoin should be at $ 10 trillion. lol... So the market cap will be at 210 quintillion.

Hey, don't take it seriously, I just took that number by holding down "0" for a few random milliseconds.  Tongue
However, with the USdollar having set its sights on self-destruction, it is not an unthinkable market cap. Just think Zimbabwe.

In recent news. Guess what? Yes, correct. More sanctions.  Grin
Kerry announced about possible new sanctions against whole sectors of Russian economy. He said he is very close to imposing them. He said, quoting: "we are moving in this directions [of sanctions] if they [Russia] continue to move in that direction [of presumably not invading Ukraine]"
http://ria.ru/world/20140429/1005865004.html

One of the reader comments: "When Russia wakes up in the morning and there are no news of new sanctions, it feels somehow wrong... the coming day started not like it should and the mood is not the same."

Putin replied:
Quote
The Russian leadership has thus far brushed off the threat of sanctions as ineffectual, arguing they might in fact buoy the Russian economy in the long term.

“Overreliance can lead to a loss of sovereignty,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a media forum in St Petersburg on Thursday.

Japan jumps on the sanctions bandwagon:
http://itar-tass.com/mezhdunarodnaya-panorama/1154603?utm_medium=rss20

And the "pale one with the scythe" (aka "pale one with the plait" [as 'plait' and 'scythe' are written identically], aka Timoshenko) offered Poroshenko to conduct a debate:

The security officers tells how the convoy of Yanukovich' cars came under constant fire during his trip in Harkov, Donetsk and Crimea on the 21st of February.

Seems like "someone" was hell-bent on eliminating him Gaddafi-style.

Are you predicting that the US dollar will become as worthless as the Zimbabwe Dollar? I can see a distant possibility of that happening, if Obama stays in the office for a few more years.

Yes, they just need to keep doing quantitative easings, and the final stop will be Zimbabwe. Smiley

Ah, more sanctions from EU. I was starting to get worried that EU tops were off on a sick leave and could not publish today's sanctions.  Grin

Prosecutor General of Ukraine blames Yanukovich for transporting with him 32 billion dollars to Russia?
http://ria.ru/world/20140429/1005865596.html
Russia says it has no grounds for extraditing Yanukovich as his is the legitimate president of Ukraine.

Besides, will they be prosecuting Yatsenjuk for transporting Ukrainian gold to the US?

When Yugoslavia had been put under the first set of sanctions which at the beginning were also targeted only at specific persons and companies, their leadership was pretty dismissive in that regard. Medias were busy laughing and mocking the west. Limited sanctions eventually grew into the total economic blockade but nevertheless, politicians were still thinking that those harsh measures cannot hurt people and claimed that blockade was actually a great chance to develop and strenghten domestic industry and agriculture to become more self-sufficient. Result: in few years Yugoslavian economy went into a major disaster, to a such degree it is in ruins even today.

Big, powerful Russia is of course in whole different league, but I couldn't help but notice certain patterns.

I have decided to read a bit today about Ukraine. And here is an interesting information link http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ru&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fcripo.com.ua%2Fprint.php%3Fsect_id%3D6%26aid%3D1994&edit-text=

It shows that Ukraine were somewhat like Zimbabwe, where criminal politicians were so sure that people are sheep that they haven't even considered to distribute their wealth and support population to make amends or even simply run away. I sense it may be better for people and politicians if pro Russian forces detain corrupted politicians and criminals so they can stand trial in Russia or in democratic Ukraine when they manage to get sensible government.  Perhaps they can hire online president selected from the members of this forums? Smiley

Russia also had similar period in 90s, however now it seems to be more civilized. Perhaps some people living in Russia can comment more Smiley

The charges are just BS. Cooked up just to divert attention from Tymoshenko and Yatsenyuk, who sent the Ukrainian gold to the US. Forget about 32 billion USD, I don't think that the Ukrainian treasury has even $32 million.  Grin

Actually it has something about 11-12 billion of green toilet papers. But their debt is much higher and still rising.

Has anyone done a decent map of Ukraine showing the regions controlled by Kiev, Russia, "unidentified forces," and "activists" or something along those lines? At this point a visual aid would be useful to keep track of all these different regions in flux.

Situation is unstable, so any map quickly becomes obsolete. But things will change if new republics will merge into the common anti-Kiev front. I suppose that it's only a matter of time when it will happen.

That is a map showing locations where anti-Kiev protests / demonstrations have taken place. It does not differentiate between areas currently under the control of federalists and those under the Kiev junta.

While searching for a map, I came across the following blog from last year, showing maps of Ukraine, and its division along linguistic, political, industrial lines. The maps are a bit old, but telling.

http://yablor.ru/blogs/dve-ukraini/3638493

For example this map shows the language of the registered users in the social network VKontakte (aka Facebook). Ukrainan tends towards red, Russian tends towards blue.

Or this map, showing which regions had Russian as an official regional language, in blue (note Crimea and the dissonance with the map above!)

Or, the percentage of people naming Russian as their mother tongue per 2001 (Sevastopol: 90%, Kiev: 30%):

And a curiosity map. Where statues of Lenin dominate (yellow means "none", blue means "a few"):

“Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.”
“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.”

Both of these are useful, thanks. I think a map showing the areas where protestors/activists are controlling areas and/or seizing buildings, compared with a map showing where the "unidentified" militant forces are present, compared to where there have been violent events, would paint a pretty telling picture of just how organized and connected the strife is. In other words, we could get a better sense of whether this is a natural decay or the result of state actors pulling strings and organizing discontent.

Hardly anyone speaks Ukrainian in Crimea... and yet Russian was not an official language? Also, there are 5 times as many Russian speakers as there are Ukrainian speakers in Nikolaev.  Sad

The town of Nikolaev gave Russian official status on the town level (blue flag).
