We will have an exchange very soon. Exchange owner is working on some unrelated bugs first then he will be adding Vertcoin.

The botnets and vps nodes are taking it all, sure if you got in very early with a normal cpu you may have got some. Too late now. Just another instamined cpu coin for botnets and cheap vps nodes. Nothing really good about it at all. If the starting N factor required 4-8GIG from the start then perhaps?? that would do away with the super cheap vps nodes and would cripple botnets too. People notice when their machine actually stops functioning.

The miners on the pool are running a modification of cgminer -- this has been talked about to death on the IRC channel, #vertcoin on Freenode.

Come on people, it's been almost a year since the first shitcoins appeared. If most people aren't getting any coins it just means someone's mining the tits out of it, it doesn't mean it's "super rare". Or you are aware of this fact and try to dump what little you managed to mine on noobs.

it means that you dont need to have 1 trillion of coins to have something valuable but maybe a few are enough. The point isnt how much you have but what is the actual price of the coin. If anyone could mine with his random casual pc blocks this would mean that anyone would have this coin and that noone would want to buy this coin since everyone has it. Value is there when people dont have something but want it. It how it works for every coin. Now if you ask me what would they want this coin? The only thing i have to say is because they may think its value will rise in future plus that it isnt premined. And thats all. Nothing innovative here... I cannot understand why people feel like they should be able to actual own coins that are valuable after trying to mine for only 1 day? Actually less than a day... Really why do you guys believe that you deserve money for doing actually nothing for a few hours? Seriously! Try to think what i mean. I dont care about the specific coin. I am talking about the philosophy of noobs these days that think that they should also have the right to own something valuable without doing something. Its capitalism! It doesnt work like this! Something has valu when some people cant have it!

Okay. This is only for OS X and Linux. I have no idea how to compile this for Windows, Windows people: good luck, post a binary if you manage to do it. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/iu1ieqz2th5kfhj/o_G3gRnGMa/cgminer-vertcoin.tgz^^ is a modified cgminer for vertcoin that'll run on the http://vtc.pool.pm pool! Extract, then run ./configure --enable-opencl --enable-scrypt && make then run cgminer as normal for a scrypt cryptocurrency. CAVEAT: this is a very dirty hack originally done by Trullala. It hardcodes the nfactor, so it will only work through 2014! A future version which handles the vertcoin nfactor more elegantly may be forthcoming.

It's not all that bad. With the nfactor, you get about half of Litecoin scrypt mining hashrate on your GPU, which means a mid-high end GPU is only going to pull a few times that of a high end CPU. Certainly not the 50x or 100x we usually see with scrypt, or the many hundreds of times with SHA256.
