The funny part is, that just after we found out about the secret sale and even more strange, right after switching to a new server, he (the new guy) decides to shut bitmit down for good because of personal reasons.
It is exactly the old server, I only restored it. I already was the owner before the last Bitmit auction on Bitmit were published so dont worry but then decided to keep it. The time I took over Bitmit was time before.. To make such a decision based on one forum post would be very unprofessional, that is surely not the reason. I planned this already some time ago and when I am going to "close"->sell Bitmit to somebody who can run it more seriously it would be a benefit for all of us I think. Selling it on a Bitmit auction is a quite good idea I consider. Ok, this makes more sense. 1) Original Bitmit owner has long been out of the picture. 2) Current Bitmit owner decided he wanted to shut it down 3) Current Bitmit owner then decided he wanted to sell 4) Current Bitmit owner then decided that all was good, he didn't want to shut it down or sell 5) A few months pass 6) Current Bitmit owner again decides he wants to shut it down (when we also learn that, by shut it down, he really means sell) And that's where we're at. So, who's buying?

I would really like to see some complex official statement what's going on with Bitmit.
@tosaki, would you be so kind?

there's a very annoying bug: when sending a message ( https://www.bitmit.net/en/msg/write), the first time you click "send", it loads forever (the message is sent however). This results in many people clicking "send" a second time and in duplicate messages. This is also true when entering a message on the product page.

Just for your information, I will reconsider my hasty decision (I was a little bit frustrated because the server crash ruined some days I have reserved with my real life..) However, I will give you 100% transparence if the site is going to be sold. Besides of that I am aware that Bitmit plays an important role in the Bitcoin community and my intention has always been to contribute to Bitcoins succeed in order to create a better world & financial system.

Are you doing Bitmit alone? Maybe extend your team, present faces, team up with others to regain confidence. All this back and forth left huge damage to bitmit's reputation.

Good to hear. I would like to very strongly urge you to reveal your identity in a manner that it can be verified, there has been a severe breach of trust and you need to rebuild it.

I can only back that. I'm really eager to throw on bitmit 1000 more or less valuable coins but wouldn't want to use escrow if things are so dependent on the mood of a random chinese-german anonymous guy.

Congratulations, Tosaki. You have just ruined the rest of the reputation of Bitmit. I would be really surprised to see some big seller to come in right now.
What you can do: 1) Hire someone as an employee to take care of the servers while you are busy. 2) Sell PART of Bitmit to new partner who can do it. 2.1) Important part of this step is NOT to change your mind from one day to another, like Nefario did with GLBSE. 2.2) Also it should be someone you know personally, not just some random teenager from wherever, so it doesn't end up like Bitcoinica transition. 3) Move it to the cloud (Hell, I hate that word) to ensure high availibility.
If you choose to close instead of selling it, release the code please.

Bitmit is probably not profitable enough for the amount of hours and money he puts into it. Not sure I can blame him for shutting it down.

until ebay adds bitcoin as a payment method, there will always be room for "the" auction site where bitcoins are used. it may not be profitable (after accounting for development and admin costs at market rates) but there will be one that does well. there are enough ebay restrictions that an auction site for those categories alone could be sustainable someday, add in the sellers who have had it with paypal's chargebacks and frozen accounts and there is a really decent future for bitmit. it just needs to be stable and continue with incremental improvements. if it is a bigger job than a single person can do (and it is) then hopefully it is sold to a party with the capital to pay to manage the site and have the needed dev and admin performed.

So despite my not so secret skepticism I posted 4 articles on https://www.bitmit.net yesterday. 4 coin articles to run for 3 days as I really want to sell them quickly. 2 at their face value as that's what I will definitely get here across the street from my local bank. 2 are only collectors items so I put them at 1€ (on ebay they go for 40€). bitmit is down right now. My auction has very very limited time to find buyers if bitmit somehow comes back soon. You really know how to screw your customers and wonder why it doesn't take off.

What's the current bounty? Make sure the bounty is in escrow before you put in work that you would regret having done for a disappearing site. tosaki currently seams to have severe issues holding him from being responsive and act reasonable concerning bitmit. I feel a bit sorry for bashing him and his service together with others here as I, too would love to see bitmit take off. I really see how this could happen and I'm sure many people would be very willing to help on that. Even making bitmit open source would have more potential to help bitmit.net flourish than it would to feed the competition. I would gladly help to implement the features that I so far only nagged to get ASAP(!!!). Also I guess monetization could be done much more efficiently by charging for the listings 5% of the starting price and limit listings to 10 days. This way you get more low prices and get demand from snipers to the site. People wouldn't disappear having their overpriced articles re-listed indefinitely spamming the site with crap like now. Cheer up Tosaki ( which tosaki?)! You have a great product in your hands. If you give up for good, others know they can take over. I guess that is the main reason why many try to force you to a decision. Don't take it personally.

The idea of charging 5% of starting price is awesome (probably not yours, but I didn't know it)
