I just wanted to point out that darkcoin does not need to be mainstream to have a market cap exceeding bitcoin. Here is why:

Anyone wanting privacy, tax minimisation or any other hidden activities will swap USD, Btc, Ltc etc into Drk then out again.

They might even choose to retain drk and only swap out when they need a mainstream currency.

Think about that. Darkcoin is the privacy solution for the entire cryptocurrency universe.

Non-technical coin. Use OZC to intro coins to everyday aussies: http://ozziecoin.com

Competition watch... Any comments on the new Zerocash paper and how it compares and contrasts with Darkcoin? Is it looking more or less of a threat to our rightful world domination?  Smiley

Zerocash carries a level of trust that Darkcoin does not. If I remember correctly, all transactions are encrypted and the key to those encrypted transactions are given to a third party to destroy.

There are 2 Huge risks with Zerocash.

1) The third party might not destroy the key and thus know all activity on the blockchain(making it not anonymous)

2) The government or a company/individual figures out a way to see all the encrypted information on the blockchain, especially with more advanced computers and quantum computers coming out etc.

I think it's a worthy competitor, but time will tell if it is better.

I posted a comment on Reddit asking when it would be released, and pointing out that DRK is already released, for which I got -3.

Think about that.

Also, BTC may only remain fungible in practice as long as the governments allow it to be. If they decide to require "redlists" as they're increasingly requiring KYC, then which bitcoins you have makes a difference whether you choose to accept the reality or not.

In contrast DRK is and will always be completely fungible.

2) The government or a company/individual figures out a way to see all the encrypted information on the blockchain, especially with more advanced computers and quantum computers coming out etc.

1) Wrong. Transactions would still be anonymous, however, if they did not destroy the seed key then that key could be used to spawn unlimited amounts of Zerocash - without anybody being able to tell. There could be endless mintage and nobody would know.

2) Potentially correct, the encryption is bleeding edge and has not been as extensively tested as the encryption scheme used in Darkcoin.

#1 alone is a deal breaker for me.

ALL YOUR DARKCOIN QUESTIONS ANSWERED!

If you are new to DRK and you want to make an informed decision about your investment then you should go and read the Dark wiki FAQ. All of the questions constantly raised by the community are appropriately answered there. This thread is too long now we should bump this every few pages. All credit goes to AlexGR and elbereth, thank you very much for the wiki.

Darkcoin FAQ  This is absolutely a must read.

26 I see 1 Gigahash in my pool, surely that must be an ASIC!?
27 Is there a secret GPU miner that can mine faster?
    28 Is X11 ASIC-immune?
29 What will Darkcoin do when X11 can be mined by ASICs?
30 Wouldn't Darkcoin “die” if it could be mined by ASICs?
31 Is it true that GPUs run cooler with X11?
32 Why is the difficulty and hashrate so insanely high? It doesn't make sense
33 Is X11 cooler in GPUs because it's inefficient?
34 Can I mine with Nvidia?
35 Why do I get transaction too large or large transaction fees?
36 What is DGW or DarkGravityWave?
37 Where can I find difficulty and hashrate charts for Darkcoin?

    41 Why can't I DarkSend more than 10 DRKs?
    42 How does DarkSend work?
    43 What are Master Nodes?
44 1000 DRK for each masternode? Isn't this too much?
45 Will I lose the 1000 DRKs? Is it a one time payment?
46 Are the 1000 DRKs of the Masternode in danger?
47 I have 1000 DRK. How do I set up a Master Node?
48 Can I setup a Masternode in Windows?
49 Should Master Nodes be spread around to avoid centralization?
50 What happens if a Masternode is DDOS'ed?
51 What happens if a Masternode is hacked?
52 Where can I see how many Master Nodes exist and how are they spread around?
53 How much can I expect to earn with my Master Node?
54 What happens if Masternode payment rewards stop or diminish considerably due to very low block reward?

60 Is Darkcoin really anonymous? What can I expect in terms of traceability?
61 I have sync issues with my wallet. What can I do?
62 My wallet is stuck at block XXXXX and it's not going forward. What can I do?
63 I didn't update during the latest hard fork and I sent XXX DRK to someone. Have I lost them?

    67 Was Darkcoin premined?
    68 Was Darkcoin IPO'ed / ICO'ed?
69 Did Darkcoin have a fair launch?
    70 Was Darkcoin Instamined?
71 I read somone who wrote that 50% of the coins in circulation are owned by the devs
72 Will there be a problem with the instamine regarding the future of Darkcoin?
73 Is it fair for late miners to get less coins?
74 Is there a wiki for Darkcoin?
75 Is Darkcoin associated with DarkRoad?
76 Is there a paper wallet?
77 Is there a block explorer?

Anybody seen the similarities between the blackcoin and darkcoin graph? Shape is exactly the same, but darkcoin is trailing a bit.

Though I do not hope this, price will probably drop soon to around $2-3

The issues the Zerocash team have noted, including a #3 - relatively new crypto.

edit- the 1GB download might cause a few problems for some.

The original work was also funded by the US Military or Navy, i.e. the US Government which said that it doesn't allow the NSA to spy on anyone that is a friend.

~9 minutes

Who knows, they may have come up with plans to get over some of these problems.

They don't sound like they are releasing any zerocash alt for a little while.

Anybody seen the similarities between the blackcoin and darkcoin graph? Shape is exactly the same, but darkcoin is trailing a bit.

Though I do not hope this, price will probably drop soon to around $2-3

Not really the same ...
