Ozzie i'm not sure where you are trying to go with your comments? Its already been said by Evan that it will go open sourced in due time and you know this. What are you real intentions of you repeating yourself or do you just have early onset dementia?

Instead, Drk went closed source and became ostracised from the Btc community, killing my investment with it.

You are, to put it mildly, misrepresenting facts.

DRK has been open in its code, whether it is x11, dgw1/2/3, masternodes etc. The only thing that has been closed is darksend. And it is closed since alpha status back in February (testnet) which was the first time it was used. It was never open so that it can go "closed" - something that you present as a fact or a change of policy.

When Darksend was released on mainnet in March, it was still closed. And back then the price was far lower than it is now, so whether you bought prior to the first DarkSend implementation on testnet, or on mainet, or after their implementation, you are still higher on your money (0.001x vs 0.004x right now). It is simply impossible to have lost money. The only way to have lost money is if you bought after RC1-2, above 0.004 levels. What that means is that you already knew that DRK was building up in a closed fashion and would be opened when ready. And nothing has changed since then - except the development which has gone back by 2 entire months through the masternode payment issue. Therefore, why do you blame some non-existent shift of strategy for your investment losses, aside from trolling purposes?
Check your trade records like I did. You will be surprised at the price jump and when it happened. I knew Drk was closed for awhile and believed it would be open sourced soon.

I thought the market would forgive a closed source RC4. I was wrong about that and paid for it. I saw no new money was coming in after RC4. This was a clear sign the speculative money was abandoning Drk. The closed source anon tech was not a winner. I then made some suggestions, which you are referring to as "trolling".

I have never tried to troll.
Mr Ozziecoin... we as community...the majority,  voted back in February to keep darkcoin non open sourced.... until it was complete.   Period.   We votedand demanded that to protect the project from poachers till it was completed.   We are still not completed... as you recall we are still in beta/RC release.

We all know this... your beating a dead horse.  we knew thw implications of this from the beginning... so let's get this out in the open once and for all and lets stop hashing this over and over again.... we dont care about the market... we care about the technology and making it work perfect first.   Ill bump this reply every few pages so we have people stop commentinton this laid to rest topic.

If any one here does not like the path taken by the community please be free to leave now.
Don't worry many people have already left. In a few months, I am afraid there is a high probability that Dark Wallet will render Darkcoin obsolete. That's what I see.

This is a free choice of yours... you can either respect what was democratically voted on by our members or not. Further... you dont put the horse before the cart.  you don't develop markets for a coin that is NOT complete and out of Beta thats a irresponsible and wrong strategy mate thatbis meant to try to bring in investor and pump a coin before its a full release version.

But you comment  above further supports my previous comment... for all to see it proves your motive and non balanced commentary.   I would love to further entertain a constructive  dialogue with the pros and cons of both  proposed systems,  but alas I know the out come of that and will save everyone the bother.   Goodnight sir.   IGNORED!

Sure, technically Drk has the best anon tech with Btc compatibility but the market is ignoring it. I think because it is closed source.

However, you forget a coin isn't only about the tech, other things matter. Things like the name, marketing, community, mining reward and being open.  I think Drk failed on a number of those, very unfortunately.  I get no joy from saying that. I would rather be owning several MNs.

You still got DRK?
Yes, a lot less. And I already told you why in my last PM to you.

I'm sorry to hear this, I'm glad you have some DRK left...

Isn't darkwallet just waiting for Darkcoin to go open source so they can copy the code? Thats probably what everyone is going to do. Darkcoin was the first kid on the block with REAL anonymous tech so it will be the leader. I don't think keeping it closed source is hurting anything right now.

At first I thought the market would not care about being closed source. Then RC4 came out and the market dropped even though the anon tech was working. Drk needed fresh Btcs but there was no way of getting it in whilst darksend is closed source.

I then suggested that Drk go open source and create a coin mixing service to try and get new Btcs into the ecosphere. Also, I saw that close sourcing was a mistake because real markets were not forming around Drk.

I also started asking myself why are guys like Antonopoulos avoiding Drk when they love privacy? Gmaxwell said that he would only review the code if it is open sourced.

So, I spoke up because I owned many MNs. Seeing as everyone ignored me, I saw the writing on the wall. I don't get any joy out of Drk's decline in price. I think it's got really good tech and that it should either be open sourced or rebooted into a new coin, so a proper anon coin can be developed.

Then I realised two days ago that Dark Wallet are very serious and they will probably deliver a working solution by year end. So, this made me even more worried because Drk's only defence now is to develop markets that use Drk.  Because once DW is out, there will be no reason for Drk to exist.

Amir has open sourced his code - you can copy paste from him! He is not afraid of people copying him. He wants people to copy him because he actually cares about privacy and anonymity and not about "poachers".

Aussie,
I am afraid there is a high probability that Dark Wallet will render Darkcoin obsolete.  Thank you for the laugh.  That was a good one.  They have managed to raise 14 btc towards their 'project'.  Why don't you help them out since you believe in them so much.  Because, in the end, DW is trusted.  Maybe that's why they've raised 14 btc, hmmm.  You are whiny dude.  Can you please stop spamming the whine.  Good luck with the scam coin.  Are you going to ICO it?  Need help with promotion?  I charge 14 btc to aid and abet.

If Dark Wallet did not exist, I would agree with you that maybe Darkcoin has the time to slowly open source.

I'll never convince you but maybe someone will read all this and figure out that Drk needs sustainable markets. It needs its own network effect. Btc is not number one because of tech. It is number one because of the network effect.  Drk has the chance to dominate the anon market and create an even more powerful network effect. You guys are killing that by keeping it closed source because a closed source anon solution is not anon.

26 Btc out of 48, last I checked. Quite a bit was for "herbs". Plus they can fundraise between now to the end of the year.

The only people that care if its open source or not are the super tech nerds and people looking to steal the coding. There is nothing out there comparable to the tech that DRK is using, so there is no rush to release the code. The recent price drops are affecting everyone, not just Darkcoin. Keeping it open or closed source makes no difference right now. The coin is still in development.

I thought the market would forgive a closed source RC4. I was wrong about that and paid for it. I saw no new money was coming in after RC4. This was a clear sign the speculative money was abandoning Drk. The closed source anon tech was not a winner (and new money was needed). I then made some suggestions, which you are referring to as "trolling".

I have never tried to troll.

The only thing that happened was that the primary buyer, which is also invested in a shitload of other altcoins, has bailed / is bailing. And being a heavy holder of DRK this means that he is also creating a larger pressure on DRK.

LTC has gone from 0.027- 0.03 a couple months ago to 0.0079 a couple of hours ago - evaporating hundreds of millions in marketcap. Was it "closed source RC4" for them? What about a huge list of coins that have experienced tremendous losses in the last hours/days? Was it RC4 for them? Was it closed source? Seriously?

I say it is a blessing for the market to have Darksend closed source till now. The reason is that the market can see that for MONTHS nobody has made what Darkcoin has. They were all sitting on the sidelines waiting in their incompetence so that DRK would opensource so that they can come here, rip the source, and then blame Darkcoin for being "a scam", all the while scamming their users.

They couldn't do that with Darksend, so they scammed their users with a whole sort of ways: central mixers, trusted solutions, non-anonymous solutions, anonymity through exchanges (LOL), anonymity through IP obfuscation/TOR (lol), "anonymity airdrops" etc. And when they couldn't do anything, they made a scam through a WHITE PAPER. Promise the world, deliver nothing, run away with the money.

The market has now seen who is serious with developing anonymity and what the dangers of copycat scammers are. Darkcoin did a great service to the community for this as only legitimate projects will survive after the pumps/dumps. And when it's time to open source, the market will know who to trust.
Wake up Alex, even with Ltc having no tech and crashing, it's current marketcap is higher than Drks. In the last crash, Drk's decline was magnitudes larger than Ltc.

Not really.

Start of the month (jul31/aug1), LTC was 0.013... now it's 0.008 nearly 40% down.

DRK was 0.008 now it's 0.004 - 50% down. The difference isn't in orders of magnitude.

And the fact that LTC has higher marketcap, is even more problematic as they should theoretically be less volatile. But when even BTC can be flashcrashed ~35-40% in a day from 500 to 300 or crashed 10% in a day losing 600mn marketcap, there's a deeper problem in cryptoland.

Quote
How has the closed source helped Drk?  It's just scared away investors. There was a brief moment where the market swallowed the "soon to be open sourced" line but RC4 proved to me the market was not prepared to accept it anymore.

There are apparent relations and there are relations of causality. You are ascribing relations of causality to non-causal factors. As have others regarding a large number of things. It has nothing to do with RC4, opensource etc. It has everything to do with the market being unable to absorb tremendous sell pressure in a small time frame, all the while being in a btc downtrend.

If Dark Wallet did not exist, I would agree with you that maybe Darkcoin has the time to slowly open source.  Even then XMR and the other cryptonote coins are making steady advancement and one of these days they are going to nail it.

Cryptonote coins are proof of concept coins. They can't be used widely because they can't scale and their developers, for the most part, pretend the problem is insignificant so they are not doing much to address it. On top of that, the economic parameters are problematic: They are not adequate store of value with extremely high inflation. How are they going to nail it if you know your money is debased with high velocity, day in day out? Who's gonna throw in millions and millions to keep price afloat? Inflation is a serious issue for coins, requiring BTC drain.

As for Dark Wallet, I do not believe it will manage to attain similar level of functionality for a whole sort of reasons, but since I have a healthy dose of respect for its developers, I think I will avoid saying anything bad about it.

"Steal the coding"?!? Are you kidding?  This whole thing would not be possible without Satoshi open sourcing his code. Based on your logic Drk's entire code base has been "stolen".  Good grief. How much in code has been "stolen" from the Btc core devs who worked to make nodes resistant against attacks?  Sorry mate, you are way off base. It is precisely this kind of thinking that makes people think Drkcoin is scammy because based on your own logic, Drk has stolen from the Btc and Ltc devs.

Measure last three days between Drk and Ltc, instead of cherry picking the dates thanks.  Or at least since RC4.

Mate, cryptonotes can be copy pasted and tweaked for coin emission. It's not that hard.

IGNORED!
You have no idea how Btc was developed.

BTC was not competing with coin cloners. Let's be honest with ourselves here. Why did you create Ozziecoin? Do you really think Australia needs it's own cryptocurrency? The state needs to control the money supply so it has another way to live beyond its means, but it's not necessary for the people of a country to have their own currency and I would even go as far as to say it's backwards. Could it be that you thought you could make a quick buck? Why stop at country coins? Maybe we could develop state/province coins as well? Actually, now that I think of it, I think what the world needs now is Oodnadatta coin, especially the people in Oodnadatta. Or maybe not.

Evan has always said that the project will become open source and I - and I'm sure many others - believe those are his true intentions as he has constantly delivered what he claims to be working on. Of course there have been some issues but that can be expected. Perhaps the reason you are so adamant about Darkcoin becoming open source right now is that you see another niche in the market for an anonymous coin with a nicer name and without some of the other issuesthat DRK has experienced. I'm sure you are not the only one thinking that, so the moment Darksend's source code is released there will be probably dozens of coins released claiming to be exactly the same thing - a more family friendly version of Darkcoin. The bottom line is that they will all be copycat developers, most with the sole objective of making some easy money.

I believe in open source software and in general use only open source software if it's plausible, but I'm willing to make an exception in this case because of the nature of the rapidly moving cryptocurrency market. One of the main reasons I am invested in Darkcoin, despite Darksend being closed source is my faith in Evan (and of course the rest of the team who have joined), having seen the way he works through problems in his posts. I'm sure when Darksend is ready and the moment is right it will be made open source. Maybe I will be disappointed, but if all the kinks are ironed out, to me, DRK has amazing potential, so getting in at this price point is a great opportunity.

K Atlas comments on DRK prices
(from FB) ....>>

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
FINALLY, about 2 days too late.

Edit: I just checked Kristov's twitter feed and realise the above is a BS post.

It's on Facebook?

YES
he posted that on a question regarding DRK prices
in Crypto currency collectors club
Why didn't he tweet it and release his review?!? Unbelievable.

https://www.facebook.com/jamie.redman.374/posts/1456311001299910?comment_id=1456449717952705&offset=0&total_comments=12&notif_t=feed_comment_reply
That's just sad. If he has done the review, he should have released it.

well obviously he is NOT done with the review right !
Otherwise he would have told us ... and specially you !
 Grin
He said he will run everything through Evan and let Evan decide how to disseminate the information (see reddit). I hope some are not construing Evans silence as a sign that he is busy responding to kristovs review before releasing it... Hopefully there is not a lot of work generated by it!

Come on Evan, speak up. Just a peep. A good morning, howdy do.
