Urrghh, I feel like I have to lower my IQ by 90 points to even 'think' about branding, but I read that and he's more or less right IMO. Anyone who thinks changing the name is going to have any effect whatsoever on mass adoption is delusional. If anything we'd have more luck going the other way and calling it FuckTheThievingReptilesOfWallStreetCoin. Nobody ever achieved anything worthwhile by pandering to idiots and cowards. |

I do agree. That's my opinion, as well. It was the name "Darkcoin" what first caught my special attention to this cryptocurrency (amongst the avalanche of new cryptocurencies). It was this name that gave me the first hint of DRK's privacy benefits that were confirmed to me after I came to this thread, and learned about all the DRK's improvements over Bitcoin, and I have decided I want to be part of this community. I see no reason enough to justify the abandonement of the name and brand Darkcoin. Dark is used as a significant to the PRIVACY it provides (those who randomly associate it to "crime" or "sin" are simply wrong). It would make no sense IMHO to throw away what we have already achieved with it. (Merry Christmas everyone  ) |

A much better idea, instead of changing the name, is working on DRK's public image: instead of "glorifying" darkmarkets and drugdealers we (the Foundation and the Community) should make periodical campaigns (humanitarian, bla, bla bla...). Image matters a lot more than the name. I liked a suggestion some pages ago of making aliases, like, funding the young Malala with some MalalaFundWallet (powered by Darkcoin). Campaigns and propaganda are very healthy for the image... In the end the benefits Darkcoin bring are real, anyway... (note that even if we should not "glorify" the DarkMarkets, we must respect them: we just will not make much ado or big show-offs about them...) |
