What are the top 3 VPS's for setting up masternodes?  I used up my existing VPS IPs and now need some more.

Honestly, get away from using Vultr, Amazon, and DigitalOcean due to how many are on those providers. Any VPS with solid uptime (look for reviews) offering 512mb+ memory and 10gb+ hdd with 300gb+ bandwidth monthly is adequate for running a masternode.

Hi i have started my first mn yesterday and in the list it says that the port is closed but I got a payment already on 2.1 drk 😯 how can I get that when it's closed ?

Going to need to list more details: OS, guide used, vps provider, confirms on tx, grep ip results on daemon/local, list used for port close, firewall used, port checker results on 9999, whether you funded multiple nodes in the same tx, etc. You haven't given any information to really be able to answer it...

Further, without knowing the masternode address, it seems highly unlikely to be selected in a day's time for payment. A hunch would be the result of funding multiple nodes in one tx.

My newest masternode hasnt been selected 6.5 days. Your masternode cant be selected 517block which is about over 1200 minutes. Then your MN should be put on the waiting list.

I read the article but they forget to mention a very important thing: The leaked NSA documents originate from 2011. So who knows how hard OTR and Tor still are for the NSA, I have my doubts..

'Offered as a service by ISPs'

They get court orders every 2 minutes to release information.

I think what this basically means is - Google, Facebook and the online marketing firms have to pay to see information that they can monetize, information they can currently see for free.

In summary, the Intel Management Engine and its applications are a backdoor with total access to and control over the rest of the PC. The ME is a threat to freedom, security, and privacy, and the libreboot project strongly recommends avoiding it entirely. Since recent versions of it can’t be removed, this means avoiding all recent generations of Intel hardware. details https://libreboot.org/faq.html#intelme --- https://tehnoetic.com/laptops --- https://store.vikings.net/x200-ryf-certfied

I'm not sharing my VPS's I use since I don't want people just piling into them for the sake of someone saying it's fine. Do your own due diligence and you'll be able to find suitable options. Google VPS reviews and you'll find plenty. There's hundreds, if not thousands of providers out there.

No I meant what are the risks of using a vltr, amazon or digitalocean VPS since you are using a cold storage setup beside being DDOSed?

The risk is the easy target for FUD that using mostly a few VPS operators will provide. The more decentralized the MN network is, the better.

Maybe the MN reward algorithm should take into account the INETNUM address space to which the MN address belongs to to incentivize strong decentralization - only give rewards to the first 10 nodes within each INETNUM.

Gotcha. Maybe it'll be better to just leave the minimum VPS requirements in order to run a MN and to remove the vps provider names from the MN guides such as Tao's to make newbies do their own research.

has anyone been in touch with maidsafe to see if MNs can run on their decentralised thingy?

I've been advocating that for awhile. Too many just blindly follow it using Vultr because the guide says to use Vultr when the instructions are nearly the same assuming you find a VPS with similar specs and use Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit as the image.
