If the gouv shutdown 500 masternodes in same time, it's the end of darkcoin.
It's not a good reasoning

There are over 2000 masternodes, if a government shut down half, we'd still have 1000, and it takes about 5 minutes to start one backup from home, or another out-of-country VPS.  So this is pretty much the silliest thing I've read.  Was it a joke?  I just sat down, so I may not  have "gotten it" LOL

A quick look, and it seems you're all serious, LOL.

If that were the case, the same thing could happen to any crypto.  A masternode could be run from my home, or anywhere in the world where I can rent a vps in about 5 minutes.

Ow many masternodes running in US and EU ? 85% ?
And max in 10 datacenters.
So, it's to easy to switch off 85% of the masternodes network

A paultry 100 GH/s. 0.1% of Maza coin's hashrate.

Should I be concerned about that ? It is a POW coin after all.

At coin school I was taught that a high hashrate was good for security.

You don't necessarily have to understand all the technical algo differences. For a general comparison you can simply add the total value of all the hardware doing the hashing, (plus the power costs, too).

I'm not sure how accurate their data is or how they calculate the numbers, but you might be able to get a very rough idea from www.coingecko.com. If you look in the very left column under the coin name there is a little icon of a flame and a US$ value, which represents the total cost of a 51% attack on the coin.

It currently lists

Bitcoin
SHA-256 (387 PH/s)
$772,533,669.04

Litecoin
Scrypt (1.4 TH/s)
$46,522,719.25

Dogecoin
Scrypt (1.2 TH/s)
$39,928,948.01

Darkcoin
X11 (107 GH/s)
$13,392,244.90

Obviously the non-PoW scam coins have question marks in this section, because after all, there is no real money spent creating/securing them. Actually, we shouldn't even give them the credit of calling these centralized sandbox tokens "coins" at all  (ripple/stellar/bitshares/nxt/whatever).  I think most of these are simply seeded by a few big investors who are hoping that enough people buy into their completely fake market cap scams.

You can use a dynamic IP for MNs
You just have to restart them when they go down (change IP) - change the IP out - etc etc

Why don't solve that in priority ?

I would like to install a masternode on a pi 2 at my home with my dynamic ip without restarting after my ip change.
For me its the best option to ensure a secure network and truly decentralised

sangoku, if 95% of masternodes dropped instantly, the network would not be affected, only much higher pay for the remaining 100. Stop pushing that argument., it makes sense, but in practice its silly to keep going with it. Within minutes, the vast majority would spawn instantly elsewhere.

The network is completely decentralised. With your reasoning, the internet itself is centralised as the government can shut down entire ISP's if they wanted too. But it practice, it makes no sense it would be chaos.

A bit like mining is decentralised, with risks of pools gaining the infamous 51% control. In the case of MN's its not control at all, but the fear of shut-down from the VPS provider, which as said, is a non-issue.

github is there waiting for your contribution. Its static IP for now because of coding requirements. There are far more important things to do right now than dynamic IP. If you're planning on doing that, that necessarily means you'll be running a hot wallet thus becoming a HUGE target for theft. So IP obfuscation (next development in roadmap) is far mor relevant than dynamic IP.

If centralisation of network infrastructure concerns you, you should be a hundred times more worried about mining.  Cheesy

But sure, you can run you MN on a pi 2 if you want. You'll have to compile the daemon for ARM. If you google there are plenty of people who've compiled bitcoind for a pi, that should get you pointed in the right direction.

30 minutes is too long.
1000 masternodes shutdown in same time and bye bye darkcoin.
Do you think that Iceland is a problem for the Gov US ?
Do you think that whole world is a problem for US? Yes it is! They have acceses to many countries but not all, sorry.
Cut the head of hydra and there will be 2x, close 500 MNs there will be 1000 new more spreded.

Yes, but for the moment the majority of the masternodes running in US and EU and in the same place "datacenter VULTR, OVH,..."
Thats why I stared to use the lowbox

I have no idea what I am talking about, but what about a free dynamic DNS? My understanding is that they monitor the IP changes and automatically route to you via DNS. Could something like this not work for a masternode, or do you need the actual IP number? Either way, could someone explain, why or why not...

Even if there is 0 MN for a moment, then what? End of the world? We all die? All my drk will dissapear mysteriously?
Drk will exist without, you will not be able to use darksend and instantx ( maybe more feature coming in the future).

You still can send coin received coin ... Sit down take a splif and wait the re-population of MN, i can told you that it will be quick.

To the degree that there is risk of masternodes getting "shut down," the incentive to protect one's masternode against said attacks will increase.   Just like mining requires cost & effort to get a return, so do masternode profits.  I believe Evan recently shared his plans to transition the masternode reward into actual part of the mining on the blockchain.

Hey Guys!!!

My husband just did a Bitcoin Rush Open Minute for his books and how we're trying to set up so we can sell them on our website for Darkcoin and Bitcoin.  It's not so easy to do anonymously!

Anyway, good episode as always (though I don't see a future for "fastcoin" ?? )  Anyway, please have a look and give us a thumbs up if you have a minute Wink  Thanks!

Yes sure, for me the darksend is the mixing.
And it's for this that all should have anonymized coin in the wallet... In case they (who?) shutdown all MN  Wink

Only one thing that can stop drk, is shutdown the all internet.
