What does Evan mean when says he's going to "blind" the masternodes ?

What does that mean technically speaking ?

Currently masternodes "see" where their inputs and outputs are coming from/going to, which necessitates multiple rounds of anonymization for DarkSend to be reasonably secure. By knocking their lights out if you will anonymization will occur much faster with fewer rounds and is even more secure.

Masternodes going Dark. Wink

Thanks - nice explanation ! Smiley

Obvious next question - why were "their lights" ever on in the first place then if it's such a great idea for them not to be ?

I can only guess from here, but I would say the idea only becomes obvious after the fact. We have to remember Evan only forked another codebase and this improvement is an idea you have to have in the first place. It's like wondering why Marie Curie died of radiation poisoning when it was "obvious" that radiation is dangerous  Grin

This is absolutely great, with blinded masternodes, the old and inaccurate argument about having to trust masternodes will no longer make any sense. You already don't have to trust masternodes as they are selected randomly for each round so you would need to control like 80% of the network to really follow transactions, but with this there is just no space for bs propaganda against Darksend.

Love it ! I've been waiting for this.

First you train your MN's to perform, then you blindfold them for added effect for the opening act in front of the audience  Grin
You can't train MN's new tricks while blindfolded!

Nice !

(I wish my my metaphors flowed as fast as that).

I suppose we'd better hope that Evan doesn't obfuscate himself in the process then  Wink

You can't have all those features available at the start. You have to make some more "simple" (and DarkSend is not a simple feat) things work before adding something more complex to the mix.

Having a look around for a VPN which accepts DRK, I stumbled across AirVPN https://airvpn.org/plans/. Can anyone recommend them, or another VPN which accepts DRK?

edit: They also mention: "This is a dynamic list, updated every day."

Cheers, I'll take a look at the thread. There are certainly a few more services being offered since the last time I had a look. You might want to put https://fortunejack.com/ on there too under online casinos, it was posted here earlier.

I may be misunderstanding this article Roll Eyes http://www.coindesk.com/perkins-coie-bitcoin-can-learn-real-estate-law/
but it looks like one more reason the fungability of DRK makes it superior to BTC. Notice that the cure proposed for the problem is an appeal to government to reclassify BTC under the UCC...

As usual; the cure for a problem generated by regulation, is more regulation. Yet one more piece of evidence that Satoshi's baton has been passed to DRK.

From the article:
Summary
Under the current Bitcoin ecosystem, parties lack information regarding existing security interests. This circumstance leaves acquirers of bitcoins with the risk that their bitcoins may be subject to security interests that diminish or eliminate the economic value of the bitcoins to owners.

For bitcoins to become useful in significant commercial transactions, the present uncertainties regarding existing security interests must be removed. These uncertainties not only affect the ability of the acquirer to be certain it is receiving the value it bargained for, but also greatly diminishes the ability of the acquirer to finance such investments.

The Article 8 structure provides the solution for these deficiencies. It is a system that has worked well for securities and is flexible enough to do the same for bitcoins.

Yup, Strix, the trick is to make it impossible for them to regulate.  It must be our goal or else we fail to accomplish a true revolution, rather, we give the government technology to make trusted electronic currency, where you trust the government to adjust the value according to their desires  Angry

And man, I've been wanting to get a pi so long now, but I see now that the wait was worth it!  I WILL find a way to buy one or two of those!  I also want the touchscreen that's supposed to go with 'em, LOL.

Hope you're right Lebubar!  My problem is that the market never seems to be logical?!?!!

Guys, I have several reports from different users that wallet crashes sometimes in incomprehensible manner, stops syncing with strange wallet.dat DB error and so on.
After solving this issues with them privately I'd like to ask everyone now:
Please verify your wallet version reported by getinfo is the most recent one.

That's how you do this:
Open "Tools" -> "Debug console" and type "getinfo". Look for the field "walletversion" and if it doesn't match 61000 please do upgrade your wallet buy running it once with -upgradewallet command-line option. Do not forget to close your wallet first and make sure you have the most recent backup available just in case.
