Glad the re-branding conversation went full circle and yes, this has been done a few times before.

The concept of "Dark" is romantic and stirs the imagination when it comes to privacy.

I personally think we will lose a lot of our image if we go to PrivacyCoin, it's too sterile.

Yea privacycoin doesn't even sound right. Darkcoin just has that ring to it, It's honestly the best name in crypto IMO. Even if it changed I'd still call it darkcoin.

So the logo isn't going to be my genitalia then?  Thats me out of the renaming debate...

Serious question:  I read that the block reward is going to be reduced by 7% soon.  Can somebody give me a newbie explanation on what effects we might see as a result?

yes 7% annual decrease.
Hmmm logicaly less coins mined = price up... but there is no logic in crypto ® Wink

Thanks mate.  Logically there is less reward for miners and masternode owners but difficulty should adjust if network hashrate drops...but then again price goes up (in theory) so hopefully everything stays the same apart from the price Wink

Is the reduction happening on our first birthday?

https://github.com/darkcoin/darkcoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp#L1415

Based on blockheight, every 210240 blocks

Thank you kindly. Logical, I should have known that.

We are actually averaging about 566 blocks per day since launch, not quite the 574 for which the code aims. Based on that average, it will take 371 or 372 days, not 365 to hit block 210240. Therefore, we will likely hit that block on about Jan 25th or Jan 26th, not the one year anniversary of 1/19/2015.

Yeah - I think we're off like 6 sec or something - no biggy

Oh, and I got a question about the block reward reduction of 7%.

The block reward is surely rounded because always 5(the min) or  6 or 7 8 ... never ever saw 5.5 or something.

So what would occured with the 7% decrease?
is the minimum block reward will be = 4.65 (for the 5); 5.56 (for the 6), ..., .. and will not be rouned like it is now?

I don't think anyone suggested privacycoin as a name (at least not this round). When I made my two suggestions, it was in the event that a rebrand needed to happen due to dark having a negative connotation that prevents mainstream, broad adoption. I am 100% find with the name as is, but also agree that mainstream is off the table. Regulators just won't have any of it in all honesty but I am fine with that because the underground markets, gambling, drugs, porn, etc has a large enough marketshare and userbase to make it a worthwhile investment. The most likely situation is bitcoin complies to heavy regulation and those that use bitcoin venture into darkcoin for privacy.

This is why I'm glad Fernando has legal experience, all mainstream media sound bites are focusing on "Dark Markets" being the enemy, it's only a matter of time before the Hornets Nest comes our way.

We just need to keep beating the Digital Cash drum and I think we'll be OK.

Rebranding Darkcoin is like when they Renamed XBMC to "Kodi" - I know no one who calls it kodi. Fuck that name.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

7 days 18 hours ago, there were 1439 MN. I know that because I finally got my MNs up at that time. and less than 8 days later, we are looking at 1648 MN. If things move this fast, we will need that 60% MN payment pretty soon.

Smiley indeed, more MNs the stronger the network and anonymity so the incentive goes up too... but 60 % will be in 2016
edit: so looks like we got our price stability lvl over 0,006 again.

The reward bump is set and won't change (as it should without alteration). As such, 60% won't happen until block 365360.

Won't be in a bull market until we are firmly closed and above the downward trendline from the all-time highs drawn through respective swing highs, which right now looks like around $415-425. Personally, I would still want to see a close above the pivot high of $454 set on stamp.

Well to get to those numbers you just laid out the market has to turn somewhere... and all that article is saying is that the turning point is now. We'll see. I agree that it might be too early to use the term "bull market", but as with most terms not all people use them in the same way.  Tongue

Agreed, the move from where we are at just to get to $454 is about 38%, but the fact remains, the downtrend at least from an intermediate term is down. Could be the case where we push to the trendline, reject and back down we go. That will obviously be seen when we get there. Long-term, we are still making higher highs and higher lows and short-term looks like we are about at the point of higher highs and higher lows. Just need to get over that intermediate downtrend and we'd be firing on all cylinders.

I'm resigned to the idea that you just cannot even hope to predict this shit.   It's all too controlled and will move the way a select few decide it's going to move.  Except LTC..... I predict it's demise.  Smiley
