Well... lets just say.. my gf was "what the fuck is that noise in the closet!?" .... - 10 fans running like that will generate some noise yeah. I just bought a 110mm diam grey PVC tube. Gonna have a go at doing some stuff tomorrow creating some sort of wind-tunnel. Will report back

I was also annoyed by the fans, so I replaced them with these http://www.silverstonetek.com.tw/product.php?pid=136&area=en

nice part of these fans is that they have a fan control unit with each fan. I have 4 of these miners bought form a group buy.

Mine seem to be running very well.

I set them up last night and they've been running for 12 hours now without issues (uptime on screenshot is because I made some changes).  I haven't had to power cycle any of them, etc.

The setup was pretty quick and painless, though it is a lot of wires.

I put them underneath my workbench and they're humming along nicely.

Well, definitely seeing them reboot every so often.  It seems like they all go down at once, so I guess the controller is sending a reboot signal to all of them?  Not sure how often it happens yet.

Edit: When they reboot, they seem to self recover and are hashing back at 3.2Mh/s in about 2 minutes.

I'll be the first to say that I am a linux noob,  the one step that held me up was installing the libraries.  These might not be entirely right but its from memory, and remember I am very new to linux but I'll try to help.  I am using Raspbian.

To install cpuminer:

Terminal root:
 sudo apt-get update
 sudo apt-get install build-essential libtool libcurl4-openssl-dev libncurses5-dev libudev-dev autoconf automake
 git clone https://github.com/gridseed/usb-miner
 cd /home/pi/usb-miner/software/cpuminer
 sh ./autogen.sh
 sh ./configure
 make && make install

 [wait till done installing, then plug in you usb miners]
 dmesg
 [find and copy down the names of your USB miners,  they should look like (ttyUSB0) and so on.  
 sudo nano /home/pi/usb-miner/software/cpuminer
[this is a text editor]
 minerd --freq=850 -G /dev/ttyUSB[Number for usb device] [if more then one miner write -G before each] --url= [poolurl:port] --userpass=[user].[worker]:[password]  
[CTRL+X]
[Y]
[name the file [whatevername.sh]
 
Now run the file that you just saved.

sh ./[name of file .sh]


Should be off to the races unless I missed some step above, I am a noob but with the help from others I figured it out, this if for CPUminer which you can run scrypt pools.  Need cgminer installed to run SHA-256 coins, which is also in the software folder you downloaded.  If when trying to compile you get an error like missing lib something, type ldconfig while in the directory.

EDIT: There is also a installation how to in the https://github.com/gridseed/usb-miner/tree/master/software/doc , folder.
 

Thanks!  So you are running all 10 miners off one instance of cpuminer on the pi?  what is the syntax for multiple miners, you mention putting -G before each.

You pretty much have to mine on a pool that has lower difficulty stratums to choose from, or vardiff. Higher difficulty pools means your Gridseed miners won't get shares accepted as often and if any of the 10 you have connected to a controller takes too long, it'll reset and start all of them over.

It was my understanding that they were going to be releasing an updated firmware to correct this problem, but I have yet to see anything. It's getting pretty frustrating.

Running 10 at 900 on the controller. Not having any problems with Waffelpool that has a diff set at 512. Typical restarts about once every hour or two. Still averaging about 3.4 MHs.

I finally received my LA3M yesterday and got it up and running very quickly. However I'm just getting maximum around 3.5M, any idea how to get this higher and close to 5M which was what was originally stated by Jack.

vertcoin will be king. say no to script ASIC. more vertcoin like crypto will popping up and litecoin/dogecoin craps soon will be dying out. i sold all dogecoin/litecoin and invest in vertcoin.

ASIC are killer or cryptoworld...al money from crypto goes to few companies that makes ASIC..crypto was built to be people money so they can make it with their computers and not in hand of few companies .

When I boot up my miners, some of them are running at speeds of 600-800kh for 5 mins. But that's because the output is based on accepted shares. That is not the real long term speed.

I can keep rebooting the miners until I get the reading I like and screenshot it.

I have measured these thing. The best they can hash at is around 3.6-4.0mh at the miner. Pools will report lower due to rejected shares.

Think about it, if Gridseed could have got better speeds out if it, they would have. Not leave it to a reseller to make a better firmware. Gridseed has a team of 20 people. How many works at LightningAsic?
