I do have a Coinbase account/wallet.  I would imagine Coinbase has a means of setting up donations the way Eligius support page is suggesting when using Bitcoin-qt.

This is what I have thus far in my "message" to copy and paste into whatever I would use on Coinbase to implement the message:

My Eligius - 2014-11-11 15:30:30 UTC - Nickname=Proud%20Clown Minimum_Payout_BTC=.50000001 Donate_Pool=.5 Donate_Stats=.5 Donate_Hosting=.5

I just need someone to point out to me where and/or what on Coinbase I need to use to get this message going with a proper signature to implement the message?  Any help someone could provide would be appreciated.  Like I said, I'm NEW to bitcoin and mining bitcoin.  Please forgive my ignorance...

Here is how to sign a message using a Coinbase Bitcoin wallet address:

https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/1526413-how-do-i-sign-a-message-with-a-bitcoin-address-

That being said, I would recommend not using Coinbase as your wallet.  Download Bitcoin-Qt or an alternative like Armory.  They are all available for Mac.  Don't download Bitcoin-Qt to a storage-limited device like a laptop with an SSD or a small hard drive.  You will want at least 50GB of space to store the blockchain.  No, it is not that big yet, but it is roughly half of that and it is growing.  You don't want to have to delete stuff off your laptop in order to fit the blockchain.  If storage is constrained on all your Macs, use a lightweight client like Electrum that does not require a full copy of the blockchain.

+1 & make several copies of your wallet.dat file. Also create a folder to store your dat in.It's located here in windows C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin (show hidden folders needs to be checked)

Put them on HDDs & flashdrives.I've had dats go "bad" on flashdrives,so making several copies & saving them in as many places as possible will help you recover your wallet if your HDD crashes  Wink

Hello,

I opened a support ticket many days ago but have had no response so trying on here. When you first come the website it says in BIG letters "You do not need to (and cannot) register an account on Eligius." but now it wants me to log in to track the status of my support query....have I missed something?

My original question went something like this.....

I am very new to mining (how many times must support emails start with that line?) but on reading your site, you list Blockchain as one of the compatible wallets, so that is what I used (an online wallet rather than downloading full blockchain). However, I now understand that since I have used a Blockchain wallet address as my mining address with this pool, I cannot sign the message in bitcoin-qt to change my settings to add a NMC address - or make any other changes for that matter, such as changing the pay out threshold.

I see that one cannot have funds moved to a new address and I understand that policy, so all I can think is that I must withdrawn my funds to the Blockchain wallet and start a new mining account with a Bitcoin-qt address (effectively delete old account and start again) but that has at least 2 issues as I see it: -

1. I will have to start again and so have lost the last week building up my rewarded shares percentage.
2. How do I access the Namecoins already mined during this time?

Is there another way around this please? I have tried adding my Blockchain address to the bitcoin-qt address book but it will not let me verify the message giving the error message "Private key for entered address is not available".

Many thanks in advance of any response/help

I can't speak about most of your post but you can't simply add the BTC address to QT and expect to sign a message. That would mean the whole signature process is NOT secure.

You have to importprivkey "bitcoinprivkey"  I don't know if blockchain gives you the private key or not.

Go to the console of QT and issue the command above once you have added the private key you have to -rescan in order for it to all work.

I unplugged my miners a month and a half ago, but my stats page is still show 0.02093685 BTC pending in the payout queue...  it says it will be paid out 4 days if I remain inactive.  I had thought that all of my payouts were complete.  Is that normal to take that long to payout?

Normal to not be paid? No! it is not normal.
Perhaps it is nearing the end for Eligius.  It wouldn't surprise me after this comment

I decided it was about time I retire to an island somewhere in the Bahamas...

Many a true word is spoken in jest.

I remained inactive due to the fact that is was my choice.
What balance I had was paid out just like the stats page said.

Estimated Position in Payout Queue
Approximately 0.49990541 BTC remaining to enter payout queue. If you remain inactive, and the pool does not pay towards any of your shelved shares, then your less than 0.00131072 BTC balance will remain unpaid and donated to the pool in approximately 1 month, 4 weeks, 5 hours and 49 minutes. If you are concerned about this small balance you should mine until your balance is greater than 0.00131072 BTC.

Note: Your minimum payout was customized to 0.50000000 BTC under 'My Eligius'.

if I remain inactive no sleep will be lost donating the above sum

thanks Wiz
All time total payout: 27.19667422 BTC
Total donated Eligius: 0.26574915 BTC - Thanks!

Did you even read the quote?

BTC (Default: 0.04194304, Minimum: 0.01048576 [10 TBC])
Amount not paid after 1 month 0.02093685 BTC
This meets the minimum requirement, you are talking about customized payouts, not relevant in this context.

The fact remains, Eligius is not paying out as expected.  It appears this is achieved by continually resetting the inactive timer, effectively adjusting the time required to enter the payout queue back to 7 days.

1) You can sign a message using the Blockchain wallet.  I have not used Blockchain, but I know this is an option somewhere.

So no, you don't really have to change your payout address.  But continuing the discussion...

2) Your awarded shares percentage is just a number.  If the pool has a run of good luck then your shares from the time you mined with the old address, and those shares are awarded, then they will be paid out to that address.  The shares mined on your new address will be paid out to your new address.  There is no penalty to changing addresses (save if one of the addresses gets orphaned with a small BTC amount that is less than the minimum payment threshold.... and if this happened, you could go back to mining at that address to bring it above the threshold).  You could change payout addresses on a daily basis if you wanted to.

3) This has already been addressed, but Bitcoin-Qt needs to know the private key for the address.  The private key is the "secret" that allows you to "unlock" the BTC in a given address.  You can give the public address to anybody, but you keep the private key to yourself.  Bitcoin-Qt can import private keys, but I'm not sure if you can obtain a private key to a Blockchain address.

4) You will also need to have a Namecoin wallet and generate a valid Namecoin address in order to receive Namecoins.  If you have been mining BTC without a Namecoin address added into the settings, you will not be able to recover the Namecoin mined during that time.  Don't worry about it, it's less than 1% of your earnings.  It's a nice bonus and worth taking a few minutes to set up, but not anything to lose sleep over.

Did you even read the follow-up explanation?  Eligius had a run of very good luck within that past week.  It is likely that some old shelved shares were paid out during this time, which reset the time to 7 days.

Did you even read that is has been a month and a half?

I unplugged my miners a month and a half ago, but my stats page is still show 0.02093685 BTC pending in the payout queue...  it says it will be paid out 4 days if I remain inactive.  I had thought that all of my payouts were complete.  Is that normal to take that long to payout?

The fact remains, Eligius is not paying out as expected.

No, he had already been paid out everything that he was owed already a month of and a half before.  Then the good luck happened and it cleared a lot of the backlog of shelved shares.  Yes, even to a month and a half back.  Keep in mind, if the pool has a long period of near-even luck (100% luck) then the backlog will not grow at all.

Are YOU not being paid out as expected?  Or are you just FUD'ing based on a misunderstanding of another person's good fortune?

He had not been payed "everything" there was still 0.02093685 outstanding, are you retarded?
At what point was it determined that the "non payment" had anything to do with shelved shares.

The fact remains, Eligius is not paying out as expected, irrespective of whether or not payouts were as intended.

Eligius perspective = as intended
Miner perspective = as expected

Things were clearly not as kodiak1120 expected, that is the reason for the original post.
