Greetings Eligius miners,

So, a few quick things.

First, I would like to point out that Eligius has done what it could to mitigate today's spam attack against bitcoin.  While most pools/miners were mining blocks jam packed full of the attacker's spam, Eligius was working to mine blocks full of legitimate transactions that were being delayed by the attacker.  We did successfully mine a full block with 2,739 non-spam transactions during the attack, and there was much rejoicing.  We've also mined a second spam-free block that appears to better reflect actual legitimate transaction volume, also.

Second, I've been updating some internal things for Eligius.  Most notably you'll notice we're finally in the cool kids group and are mining v3 blocks.  The back end servers that handle block creation have gotten a bit of an overhaul and are working better than ever.

Next, you may or may not have noticed that the starting share difficulty on Eligius is now 512.  This should help with some mining hardware/software that was having problems with the difficulty 128 starting shares.  Over 85% of the pool was or should have been already mining shares at 512 or higher automatically, due to variable difficulty.  The remaining minority will not be adversely affected.  Essentially, if you were not mining at a speed fast enough to get shares higher than 128 before this change, then you would be mining less than 0.038 BTC per month (less than $10 worth at current rates) and may very well want to double check that mining is still right for you...

I'm continuing with the back end migration and updates and am working to make sure everything is as painless as possible.  So seamless that most won't even notice all of the hard work I've been doing.  Roll Eyes

As always, thanks for mining!

-wk

For what it's worth, as a part of the 15% minority, I can confirm that there is no adverse effect on the 12h average:

As to whether mining is still right for me or not, I'm obviously no longer mining for profit, like in the good old days... it's just symbolic, actually I have about 2 THS @ 1W/G collecting dust on my shelves. I only left the USB sticks mining at loss to keep in touch with the mining world.

Thanks for your hard work running this pool!

Nice work on the upgrades.

BTW has anyone had payout issues?  Is this caused by the upgrades? I have been waiting almost 7 days now. Seems like 18 blocks have been found and I usually get paid out after 9.  I see I have 4 blocks to go, but this seems like a long time.

I'm glad to see Eligius back up to close to 10 PH/s.  Now if luck would turnaround, assuming it's bad luck, we'll be all set.

Something definitely wrong with the payout queue my payout was listed at 13 blocks till payout 3 days ago.  7 blocks have been found in the past 3 days and my payout queue now says 12 blocks.

Is the pool only count 7 blocks as 1 block?

Don't RECOMAND this shit pool something definitely wrong with the payout queue...

I have been trying to say this for days that something is wrong with the payout queue, no one seems to care. My payout queue started at 13 blocks till payout, 10 blocks later still at 11 blocks till payout.  I should be at 3 blocks till payout, starting to question if they seriously broke something during the last upgrade.

Some of my friends I recommended to this pool who have the hashing power to enter payout queue immediately 17 blocks later and 7 days still no payout.

I like the pool, I just wish they would fix the problem.

I don't currently mine here, but I believe the payout queue here is first in, last out. Have you taken that into account?
