Update real quick on the pool guys:

The pool is working.

It works very well, yes, but I'm observing quite a few of blocks found with bery few shares (1-3 or less than 10), which are producing 0LTC.  How's that possible?  Who's getting those?  Thank you.

Progress on the logo, after messing several hours with freetype_py to get the ubuntu font in I gave up and made it on my gentoo laptop, and finished the openscad script (I know I could have done it straight in povray but I'm not too prominent in that, that will follow later but we can have actual 3d printed litecoins with openscad )


They are modeled after one of my silver philharmonics, with the dimensions and margins identical.

At first should the letter L be smaller? bigger?

Then I played with different silver materials these turned out to look the best so far, but I'm unsure on what should be chosen finally.
So...

Which litecoin would you choose?  
(Don't mind the lightning, just judge the colors this is just a test scene the actual logo will have custom lightning to correspond to other coin logos already there so the profile will be visible independent of the texture)
So how shiny and bright do you want your litecoin?
Any other suggestions welcome

My preference is the 3rd from left, the front one.

I also have a relief (no effect, the real deal since it is 3d modeled and raytraced) in the hands in case the structure isn't visible enough.
Ironically RealSolid attempted this for his logo and while he botched it, here is very subtle and already looks awesome.

My personal favorite is the one to the far left. They're all pretty nice though.

All look like cheap pieces of plastic but the one on the left (probably because it doesn't reflect any light).
You need to give it a more heterogeneous texture to make it clear that it is silver.
Also, I undertand the desire to make it look "lite", but the font you chose makes it look more like a supermarket cart token.
Not sure that is the image we are wanting to give.

The coin doesn't need to be slender and simple to look "light".
Actually, it doesn't even really need to look light.
Silver is less dense than gold, that should be enough of a representation of the concept behind

I would prefer a heavy and respectable looking plain silver coin.

I got this to compile and run under Ubuntu 11.10:

First load:

sudo apt-get install libdb5.1-dev libdb5.1++

Then in the file litecoin-qt.pro change 4.8 to 5.1.  Now as I'm typing this I see that the 4.8 is in a comment line so it should not have any effect.  Yet this is what I did and it worked so I'm passing it on.

Then type:

qmake
make

I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10.  Now I can't run litecoin

./litecoin-qt: error while loading shared libraries: libdb_cxx-4.8.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Also I can't comile:

In file included from src/qt/bitcoin.cpp:9:0:
src/headers.h:36:20: fatal error: db_cxx.h: No such file or directory

How do I make this work?

You need the berkely DB dev files for compiling and if it is at version 5 like I suspect it is then you will need to edit the makefile.unix to have it look for the 5 version. Install apt-file then run as root apt-file update then apt-file search db_cxx.h then that will tell you which package contains the file need to make it easier to find which one to install.

Another reason I never do updates on my miners, unless I tested it / made a clone of the harddisk.

Okay, the GUI for cpuminer won't be coming for a while, unless I figure out another way to get output from the program, other than modifying the miner to flush the output buffers every time it prints something.

Thanks for all the input regarding my logo attempt, I will try to give it a more metallic look (that isn't that easy if the coin is in a plain environment if there is nothing to reflect, I will try my look with some discreet bumpmapping to give it this "stamp shine" real silver coins have.

Also I will finish the relief so it doesn't look as plain and possible an additional bumpiness for the profile to address the fact bullion isn't minted completely flat.

Should I be mining in a pool with a steady 4khash/s or solo mining? Upto now i've been solo'ing and getting a couple blocks a day. I'd probably be more tempted to join a pool if there was one that had a lower fee or just a auto donation feature (5% is far too high for my liking).

I also put in an extra 4.7khash/s whilst im using the other computer, so it's a total of like 6khash/s constant.
