It was a good opportunity for Netherlands to get a win against one of the full members, after their remarkable victory against West Indies. But they wasted the chance this time. They blew away the advantage several times. First they had Sri Lanka at 96/6, but then allowed Dhananjaya de Silva to build the partnership along with lower order batsmen like Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. And while batting, they were looking quite comfortable at 88/2. Then both the set batsmen got out (Wesley Barresi and Bas de Leede) and in the end Scott Edwards ran out of partners.

Super Sixes match 2 Sri Lanka vs Netherlands.
In today's match, the Sri Lankan cricket team batted in the first innings and set a target of 214 runs to the Netherlands after losing all wickets in 47.4 overs. The Sri Lankan cricket team of today's match could not bring much success in batting. Only Dhananjaya de Silva scored 93 runs off 111 balls in this match. If he could have scored 7 more runs, Dhananjaya de silva would have scored a century. On the other hand, the opposing team Netherlands came to bat in the second innings and collected 143 runs by losing 7 wickets after playing 26.4 overs.  Netherlands still have enough overs but face a wicket crisis. Now it is very important for Netherlands to hold the remaining wickets to win the match against Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka's 213 runs at 47.4 overs was not a big target and their quality of play was not that too good. Netherlands bowled fairly well and they were not batting weak but they lost wickets to the quicks due to which they lost all their wickets in 40 overs.  Sri Lanka's batting quality was similar to that of the Netherlands but the Netherlands lost their wickets quickly whereas Sri Lanka could play 7.4 overs more then Netherlands and that's why Sri Lanka won the match by just 21 runs.  It is not a big achievement for Sri Lanka

Earlier Sean Williams made 142 runs from Zimbabwe and due to his innings, they scored 332 runs. He was also given the match of the match in this important win.

I wonder what will happen to Zimbabwe once all of their senior players retire. Sean Williams, Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza are all in 36-37 age group. They are going to retire in around 1-2 years from now and after that there will be a huge vacuum in the batting lineup for Zimbabwe. Their bowling is OK, with younger players like Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava managing to fill the gap left by the retirement of the senior players. But in batting department, they are still overdependent on a few players and the younger players are yet to perform at the highest level. 

Zimbabwe was a very good team around 2005/2006. But after the retirement of the experienced players of the team, their performance declined badly. We have not seen any news about Zimbabwe for a long time. But this year Zimbabwe is performing quite well. But once again Zimbabwe will face big problems if players like Sean Williams and Sikandar Raja retire. Because their squad lacks young talent. And so Zimbabwe will try their best to do well in this World Cup.

Zimbabwe seems to be making a remarkable comeback, just like glorious days in the 90s. At the moment they sit comfortably at the top of the Super Six standings and almost confirming their spot in the World Cup. In Zimbabwe's success Sean Williams played a crucial role with the bat, while the all-round performance from Sikandar Raja give a big boost to Zimbabwean cricket so far. I absolutely agree with @Sithara007. There are some select players in the Zimbabwe team who have to perform if Zimbabwe actually wants to win. This is obviously the qualifier of the World Cup. Zimbabwe players are going to find it easier to perform in the qualifier compared to the World Cup. That is if they are qualified for the World Cup of course. The bowling performance of Zimbabwe has not been good, to be honest. Conceding 318 against a team like Oman is obviously not a good sign for any team. Imagine how much they are going to give away when they are going to face bigger opponents.

I absolutely agree with @Sithara007. There are some select players in the Zimbabwe team who have to perform if Zimbabwe actually wants to win. This is obviously the qualifier of the World Cup. Zimbabwe players are going to find it easier to perform in the qualifier compared to the World Cup. That is if they are qualified for the World Cup of course. The bowling performance of Zimbabwe has not been good, to be honest. Conceding 318 against a team like Oman is obviously not a good sign for any team. As you said, we can't misunderstand team performance. Just think of Netherlands chasing the target of 374, does that mean West Indies bowling line-up is bad. When batsmen gets stronger the pressure on the bowlers can make themselves down. This is where the batting order continue to take advantage. One thing important in cricket, whether it is a big team or small, underestimating the team will be a danger. In my understanding West Indies underestimated Netherlands and they've paid the price for it. Same could've happened with Sri Lanka, somehow the team managed and won the match. Zimbabwe needs to improve to have unified performance than depending on individual performing.

The first two matches of super sixes were very competitive. Oman batting against Zimbabwe prove that they have ability to win over any team. It is very good start for OMan in international cricket. Zimbabwe is quality team defeated WI and bowler was struggling against oman. I believe that if Zimbabwe runs below 300 than oman could won match. In the second Match Netherland bowled out SL batsmen with very small target and was best chance to win but unfortunately their batsmen couldn't started well and lost easy win match. It was one of those matches which should have been won by the associate nation. The target of 214 was very much achievable for Netherlands, but they have only themselves to blame. A win yesterday would have given them a very good chance to qualify for the ODI World Cup (which would have meant an additional funding of $1 million). After getting to winning position several times yesterday, they floundered their chances and ended up losing the match. Now they have two matches remaining in Super-6. But even if they win these two, I don't think that they will be able to qualify.

Since every batsman is doing badly in his own position then why is the coach not changing them and rotating them. If a player consistently performs poorly in one position, he should try switching from that position to another. If the team's batting condition is like this, it is natural for the team management to be worried about this team.
