Hey! I'll personally pledge a couple Bitcoins Smiley Nice idea Bruno!
Unfortunately I think the reasons charities dislike Bitcoin donation is that they think it's illegal/scammy and they don't want association with it.

The Red Cross is a fucking scam to begin with. They don't like Bitcoin because it is all PUBLIC INFORMATION!

That being the case, Rassah, would you be so kind as to take what's needed from my excess donated coins to Bitcoin 100 and bring that up to exactly 100 BTC? Let me know if that's possible or if I'm missing something as to why it can't/shouldn't be done.

As per Phinnaeus's request, I took extra coins out of the surplus he has donated already and added them to the overall donation to 1kenyaDrbe2W9KfC7djWAZbAKzSR2aXdX
In total, Bitcoin100 has donated exactly 100BTC to them.

I have also honored my next 1BTC pledge for the next charity (freshly mined, too)

If anyone wants to check their balance, I'm still maintaining a spreadsheet that lists everyone's contribution per charity, maximum amount pledged, and how much they have donated/honored already, at http://goo.gl/KVKhW
It's a bit messy, but I needed something a bit more custom, so Excel it is.

I started the project "Send to charity" a few weeks ago which lets people donate shares to a glbse account which means ongoing dividends can be paid each week. The bitcoin100 is one of the addresses we pay out to.

Keep track of it at the following thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=92684.0

This week was the first payment with more to come each sunday. I would appreciate it if you could let people know this option exists.

I lost track of B100 status. Was any money paid out yet?
Anyway, I came across a very nice organisation to consider for this: http://watsi.org

Today I wrote them a general inquiry about how the non-fees work and only briefly mentioned bitcoin as the only service to my knowledge that would allow to operate without fees. His very quick reply did not mention bitcoin but asked for ways to further reduce fees. I sent another mail with more bitcoin introduction and also sent him a bitcoin via a charged instawallet address asking to either send it back to me or on to a wallet out of my reach.

That's f'ed up. Phinneas? Did you make a stupid?

And no, no one ran off with the money. Unlike other so-called "businesses" or what have you, Bitcoin100 money has a publicly viewable transaction log in Google Docs spreadsheet that let's anyone verify that everything is where it belongs (http://goo.gl/Mk3hp), and the private keys are kept by at least two people, myself being one of them. We still have all the money safe and sound.

On the other hand, it seems we really dropped the ball on the whole asking and bugging charities. I think Phinneas is still in charge, right? If you want this to continue, we'll need to get back to work. If not, we do have a list of whom most of the money came from, and thus can give it back.

Oh come on! 1000 posts written and read 400 times for in the end returning it? How about watsi.org? Nobody commented on that one. The guys are interested in bitcoin already and it's a good project I guess. Very transparent and really non (aka zero) profit for those involved unless they get donations for them personally.

It's just a credit card issue. The first time this happened, I didn't have the payment process set on automatic, with the previous times always being able to pay Host Gator on time. The second time, the card expired, so I used a different credit card. Now I'm back to square one, setting the payment on automatic with the current Visa card that's not set to expire for about 17 months. I'm going to do the update now and it should be up and running shortly.

I will look into watsi.org, giszmo. Thank you kindly for the suggestion.

Currently, we are on the brink of attaining our 501c3, or non-profit legal status, as well as launching the Pilot version of the website. Over the next few months, we will be working out the bugs in both the pilot platform and the business model while simultaneously preparing a fully scalable version of the website that will allow donors to quickly fund a very large number of medical treatments around the world.

I had the website up earlier, now it seems to be down again. Going to recontact HostGator in a sec.

Let this post also serve as a bump, for I'm currently seeking feedback for/on Watsi.com. See the couple posts above to get up to speed, along with the thread of which I'm going to bump prior to contacting HostGator, then afterward I plan on populating that same thread with a little more content.

Humor me by posting something on either of these two threads, or I'll post the link I found where Satoshi supposedly wears Genjix's clothes from said closet.  Grin

What is Watsi?
Watsi is an online peer-to-peer crowdfunding platform that allows users to fund life-changing medical treatments for underserved people in developing countries. Watsi is incorporated as a Public Benefit Corporation in California and is currently in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the IRS.

I like to help them, definitely.

+1 "we can't cancel the whole bitcoin100 thing now!"
+1 bump
+1 Satoshi in Genjix's clothes

Oh, does that prove Satoshi is in fact female?

Subject: Bitcoin100: We want to give you $1,000

Hi!

I represent a charity fundraising organization called Bitcoin100. We are a group of 100+ volunteers who are fans of the Bitcoin payment system, and believe that everyone can benefit from its adoption. This payment system allows people and organizations to send money instantly around the world as easily as sending e-mail, almost entirely for free (there may be small fees for withdrawing into local currencies, but they can be as low as 0.6%, compared to the high fees charged by PayPal, VISA/MasterCard, or international wire services). The reason we are so in love with this system is because its extremely low fees and ease of use will help empower charities to raise money globally, without paying high processing and transfer fees, and because it can help people in impoverished countries to send and receive money from overseas for almost no cost, even in areas that have no banks. For this to happen, though, there needs to be more awareness and acceptance of Bitcoin.

Our group is not affiliated with any businesses, nor earns any money, and the premise of our group is simply that we have 100+ people pledging to make a donation of at least 1 Bitcoin each (so currently between $1,000 and $1,100 total) if a charity is willing to add a method of receiving Bitcoin donations to their site. This may be as easy as simply adding some text (receiving address) to your donation page. We will provide all the help in setting this up free of charge, and will gladly help with any issues you may have down the road.

You will benefit from receiving a large donation right away, and from adding another way to accept donations from around the world. We hope to benefit by spreading awareness of Bitcoin, with the hope that increased awareness will increase its worldwide adoption and help others as well.

If you'd like more information on Bitcoin, please check http://www.weusecoins.com/

Please let me know whom we could contact in your organization to pursue this further.

Thank you very much!

That's 2 down, 5 more rejections to go.
