I'm the dev of GroestlCoin and I thought I need to share some of my thoughts on this. (I apologise in advance for a lengthy and non-structured email, it's getting quite late here in New Zealand)
First of all, I always wanted GRS to be a community coin. So please, if you have any recommendations or suggestions, share them. Do you think that we need to add some feature to the coin or do you feel that some important aspect is not represented (like no dice games in GRS or no Android wallet, whatever) - just post this in the thread.
Small suggestion in the pursuit of accuracy: Get rid of the claim that Groestl is ASIC resistant. There have already been evaluations of the core Groestl hash function on ASICs as part the work that was done leading up to the SHA3 competition. It's absolute nonsense to make any such claim. If GRS were to be as successful as scrypt, there would be an asic for it -- much faster than for scrypt, because it's relatively straightforward. Instead, be more accurate: Point out that Groestl can and is accelerated by the hardware AES support present in most modern Intel CPUs, which helps reduce the efficiency gap between a CPU and other implementations.+1000 Well said.The ASIC resistant claim is invalid, as it is with all algos. 1) If the tablet ARM miner had a similar power efficiency (hashrate/watt) which it probably would that would be doubly huge. And if it had greater power efficiency (with AES hw support) that would be… 2) ARM procs with AES hw accelerators (Groestl likes these) will begin shipping in more laptops, small desktop systems, and HTPC like systems) 3) Google will begin designing new server farms based on ARM architecture This coin will be mined for years to come. Getting ARM integration sorted now is massive imo ARM is clearly the architecture of the future. 4) according to Christian Buchner of ccmienr fame, since the ARM NEON implementation already exists (!!!!!) all that needs to be done is for it to be integrated into cpuminer 35k BOUNTY > ARM miner 10k BOUNTY > Android Wallet

Excellent and thank you! Perhaps you could also throw this in as mentioned by a shrewd user above: Groestl can and is accelerated by the hardware AES support present in most modern Intel CPUs, which helps reduce the efficiency gap between a CPU and other implementations.
We are also therefor very excited to see what a latest generation ARM NEON cpuminer with AES support can achieve for Groestlcoin, particularly in terms of power efficiency. A Groestl implementation for ARM NEON exists already and someone just needs to add it into cpuminer. We are offering a BOUNTY of 35k GRS for this ARM miner.

This is just plain retarded. Isn't mining supposed to be NOT efficient? I mean, if mining were so efficient, more people will start mining, so difficulty goes op, so mining becomes less efficient. The actual algorithm behind it, whether it be SHA256, Scrypt, or any of the SHA3 candidates like Groestl, doesn't make a shit difference. Well, to some extent, scrypt could make ASIC mining less feasible. Otherwise, no difference whatsoever. Sounds like a completely useless sales pitch for yet another obsolete coin. Just the makers hoping to get rich quick by this utter "less noise, less heat and less electricity" bullshit.

You're half right. But power is only half of the equation - the amortized cost of the hardware is the other half. Mining ASICs demonstrate this pretty clearly - more capital cost and lower power cost. But most of Groestl's "energy efficiency" is because the implementations were/are slow. Yam uses a lot of power on a CPU. Christian has already noted that their super-groestl uses more power on a GPU.

I believe that the bulk of the miners are directed by whatever coin is the more profitable to mine at the moment X. Thus, only if the price of GRS were to go up, that is what would determine a surge in net hashpower => greater difficulty => less coins/(k/M)hash. I think you are mistaking the cause for the effect. It's, actually, vice versa. So, to quote your signature, in theory, all the miners would start mining just because it's easy to mine => 'less efficiency' (if by this you're referring to investment return/hash unit). In practice, if the exchange rate stays constant, there would be no logical reason for miners to mine it, if other coins rise in value, would it? Just my 2¢...

You are of course correct about the "energy efficiency" assertion. 2x hashrate = 2x difficulty = staus quo You may observe I have pointed this out myself in the past. Plus further optimizations will also increase the power draw. We were planning on dropping the "energy efficient" and "asic resistance" messaging before you politely joined the thread. The real advantage of Groestl is that it can and is accelerated by the hardware AES support present in most modern Intel CPUs, which helps reduce the efficiency gap between a CPU and other implementations. The reason Groestl benefits from AES HW support is because Groestl itself bears a striking similarity to AES and utilizes an AES S-box. In this way it is destined to work well on all platforms with AES implementations, including latest generation ARM procs. Additionally the Groestl algo demonstrates a resistance to paralleization with would reduce ASIC advantage. The new messaging will be along the line of: Excellent performance on multiple platforms + reduced ASIC advantage* = ultimate PoW = democratized mining = Groestlcoin.
