The Tigers came *very* close to pulling off a third straight win when the played Auckland.  The scores were level at half time and the Tigers received a standing ovation as they left the field.  Then, in the second half, the Tigers edged ahead before the scores leveled again.  A near full time penalty to the Warriors saw the score become 28 - 26 where it remained for the last few minutes in-spite a valiant effort by Balmain to score near full time.



After round four, the Bulldogs are on eight points,

On six points are Sea Eagles (another gutsy win), Broncos, Storm and Titans (don't discount them either!), Warriors, Rabbitohs and Knights. (2-8 on the ladders are in second place with six points!)

(In ninth) on four points are the Tigers, Sharks, Dragons and Raiders (technically tied for third place)

On two points each are Panthers, Cowboys and Roosters

Then Fighting for the Wooden spoon are the Dolphins and Eels with neither having had a win so far.



Next weekend, we see the Raiders and Sharks square off.  I'm expecting the Raiders slump to continue as will the Panthers decline when they face the Cowboys on Friday.

Also on Friday, in a too close to call game, the Rabbitohs and Roosters clash before the Eels get flailed by the Dragons.

So you recon the Panthers are going to continue on their losing streak? They are
big favourites against the Cowboys - 1.2 v 4.5. I dont know whether to back them now?

I do have the Sharks backed at 1.60


Last weekend in the URC I put $2 on Leinster @ 3.55 away to the Sharks and
they won a very close game 7-10! its not often I back the underdogs and when
I do they usually lose anyway.


European Champions Cup coming up this weekend, 16 teams left in the running
and I have no idea who to back....

The Panthers star kicker comes back after an eleven day HIA stand down, but I don't think it will be enough without their other star player who defected to the Tigers at the end of last season.

I have no doubt the Sharks are going to drive the Raiders back into their self inflicted wilderness their coach has conjured up for them. The beginning of the end? Time will tell.

Tomorrow evening the Bunnies may be too elusive for the Roosters with an under two try win.

The Dragons should broil the Eels. The Titans should feast on Dolphin sushi. Then...

The Tigers are going to clash with the Broncos. This could be the turning point for the Tigers if they can come together for a win.

Lastly on Sunday, the Sea Eagles might weather the Storm with the Sea Eagles outgoing Captain determined to make a lasting impression this season.

Well now, I think a lot of people expected the Sharks to tear the Raiders apart -
not the case, final score Raiders 24 - 20 Sharks.

For the next match Panthers v Cowboys, the Panthers are massive favourites
@ 1 16 so I have my bet on them (again) The odds on the Cowboys is a really
healthy 4.7 though, thats attractive given the form the Panthers have shown.

So far my Panthers/Sharks theory isnt working out, but hopefully its still early days...

Later on...  The Tigers are sitting at $5 against Brisbane, so the punters are predicting things won't go their way. Brisbane 38 - 18 against the Dolphins.

I'll post an appraisal of tonight's clashes later on.

Tomorrow evening the Bunnies may be too elusive for the Roosters with an under two try win.

And so it came to pass that the Rabbitohs won 20 - 14 against the more favoured Roosters (with there being three injuries during the game).  Likewise, the Cowboys in a major upset pounded the Panthers 22 - 18.  The chances of the Panthers winning a fifth straight premiership are now unlikely.

All three games today should be enjoyable.

Dragons over the Eels, Titans over the Dolphins then maybe the Tigers over the Broncos in Brisbane tonight.

The Eels won by one point in golden time, The Dolphins slammed the Titans (36 - 10) while the Broncos held off against a solid performance by the Tigers (Next week-end's Dolphins Vs Panthers game betting has been suspended as has Brisbane Vs Roosters.  If your market favours the Dolphins or Roosters for NEXT weekend's games, then put some money on the outcome.)


Sunday now and the Singapore 7s are getting underway.  It's a curious version of the game.

In the US Major League Rugby,  San Diego are favoured to win over Chicago while New England has shorter odds against Miami

Still to play in the Challenge Cup, Warrington are slightly ahead at $1.80 compared with  St Helens

I was thinking of backing La Rochelle against Munster but didn't go through with it, lucky because Munster against the odds won by 1 point.

It might just be the name, but I like placing bets on The Munsters.

What a team we have in Sevens, i really hope to see this same develop in the normal rugby, i think we are in the path, in fact i dont know if you know Argentina Union of Rugby  has just started to build his first top level training facilities.

The Argentinian Rugby 7's are right at the top of the game a d are very consistent.
I havent been following the 7's lately. I was on the official website today and OMG its
very difficult to navigate.

I think Rugby is enjoying a growth in popularity around the world and that includes
more investment into it too. That new facility looks really sleek, it can only bring
positive results for everyone involved.

My home club ground 'Connacht - Dexcom Stadium' is undergoing massive
investment and development which will benefit the team and the supporters.

It was painful to watch and amusing to listen to the ABC radio commentators struggle for words as the Panthers were obliterated.  One statistic they did come up with worth noting... in the entire history of League, no team has has five losses and one win in the first six games and then gone on to win the Premiership.  The closest the Panthers came was was in 2013 when they reached tenth on the ladder at the end of the season.  The Panthers and Eels are sitting at 16th and 17th on the ladder.  If the Eels win their game in this round, then the Panthers will be the wooden-spooners heading into the seventh round next week.

The commentators observed the Titans were exhausted after ten to fifteen minutes of game play, while the Roosters simply outplayed the Broncs.

This afternoon, the Sea Eagles are sitting five places ahead of the Sharks, but I'm not discounting them from mauling the Sea Eagles.

The Bunnies will no doubt run rings around the cowboys, then in the late game, the Eels will be looking to zap on the Raiders.

Right well thats pretty effing disappointing, another Panthers loss. I think I'll terminate
my simple betting strategy on the Panthers and shift attention to Storm who have also
been a reliable team over the last few seasons.

Wait till we see, now that I stopped vetting on the Panthers they will start winning again,
of course they cant keep losing and will eventually win some matches, but when that will
be has become very unreliable now.

Sharks did beat the Sea Eagles so hopefully they are back to winning ways.

This afternoon, the Sea Eagles are sitting five places ahead of the Sharks, but I'm not discounting them from mauling the Sea Eagles.

Well, at least one of my predictions came true (even if the Rabbitohs were skinned alive 50 - 12 by the Raiders)

This afternoon, the Aucklanders are going to get a severe storm come down on them while later on, it will be fascinating to see if the Tigers can beat the Knights (and get a standing ovation at half time yet again).

*Edit* and at half time, the Tigers leed the Knights 14 - 0. The Knights look bewildered as they have played defensively on their own try line since the tenth minute.

And right enough the Warriors were blown apart by Storm 42 - 14 so I'm happy that
my bet won to make up a little for my Panthers lost bet.


Quarter finals of the European Champions Cup was on at the weekend with one
match to play Tuolon v Toulouse.

Leinster have beaten Glasgow Warriors
Bordeaux beat Munster
Northampton Saints beat Castres


and my home team Connacht were narrowly beaten by Racing 92 in the quarter finals.
The team are definitely building like their new stadium so hopefully next season will
be bigger for them

Storm (42) Vs Auckland (14)
Knights (4) Vs Tigers (30) - (The Knights scored their only try in the 80th minute).

My two game parlay came through with a nice little pick up.

The Tigers took ten minutes of each half to work their way to the Knights try line, then spent the remainder of both halves at the Knights try line. The Knights spent a whole hour playing a defensive game which they just aren't used to doing.

Bulldogs (1st) Vs Rabbitohs (5th) - I'll go with the Bulldogs.
Dolphins (14th) Vs Storm (2nd) - Hard to eat sushi in a cyclone.
Warriors (6th) Vs Broncos (3rd) - I'm leaning towards Auckland who are still smarting after last weekend.
Roosters (15th) Vs Panthers (16th) - Can the Panthers make it one and six?  I think the Roosters might just show them it's possible.
Titans (11th) Vs Raiders (4th) - Would be funny to see The Raider's coach blow up yet again, but the Raiders got the job done last weekend and will probably do so again this weekend.
Knights (12th) Vs Sharks (9th) - might be another mauling for the Knights.
Tigers (7th) will very likely park the Eels (17th) on the bench for another week.

at home to stave iff the Bulls @ 1.51.
