there are several reasons why the popular teams this season are not in the same position as the previous season and the most important reason is that if we discuss Lens and Marseille, these two popular teams, there is a possibility that both teams are not prepared well enough, while on the other hand, these two teams need to focus in prestigious competition matches such as Lens focusing on the UCL and Marseille in the european league.

Its only natural that both teams experience a decline in performance because in terms of player performance there may be an impact after selling their players so they have to set a strategy not to focus too much on the domestic league and choose to maintain their qualification from next round in the UCL and european leagues.

IMO I think it's quite reasonable because after all even though now Ligue 1 is one of the favorite clubs in European competitions but compared to La Liga and EPL then the difference is still very far.
The reason is quite simple where money is everything. Currently the financial circulation in Ligue 1 is not as good as the EPL and La Liga although there is already PSG which is indeed adequate resources but it is only one club in contrast to La Liga and EPL clubs which result in the quality of players also affecting which makes a real difference.

Nice vs Touluse is also no less interesting to watch because I see Nice are in good condition and have not received defeat so far. To be honest, strabourg has been impressing me with its performance at the early season but it is very disappointing to see how strasbourg was performing so badly. This is unacceptable and marseilla has higher probability to win the match.

But they can't move mountains during the winter transfer window. I was scrolling through the newly rebranded app, X formerly referred to as Twitter and I saw rumors that are fast circulating about Olympique Lyonnias that are sitting 18th position in the relegation zone on Ligue One table this season. Some of the negative comments I saw was about Lyon, will not meet up the desirable points to escape this position, though some still believed they can have a narrow escape from relegation zone, However this is football and there's nothing too new to surprise us anymore. Lyon chances of staying and escaping remain 50/50 and these probabilities keep fluctuating depending on their performance.

Lyon is having a bad season at the moment and has experienced a very drastic decline compared to last season. This team is very worried that Fabio Grosso as coach can't do much other than lament the fate of the club he brought.
It's not surprising that there are a lot of negative comments aimed at this team, in fact Lyon has not been able to rise from its position at the bottom of the standings. At first I believed that Lyon could find their self-confidence again and stay away from the red zone after getting a new coach, but apparently not. Lyon new coach has not been able to maked this team better and it looks like Lyon will be relegated from league 1

For Lens, I still understand it, but if we talk about Marseille, which has a lot of experience in European competitions, it shouldn't have such bad luck like now and a busy schedule cannot be used as an excuse for a decline in performance. It will be very difficult for PSG to release Mbappe next season. He is in top form and a key player that score at any given opportunity. Age is on his side and I feel a sense of nationalism might compel him to remain in France. 

Unless perhaps he feels his career will not grow well at PSG base on the fact that they hardly perform well Internationally.  He might decide to leave and pursue his career even though it will be difficult to reject the tempting offer PSG will offer should they get to that point.
