After the retirement of their key players, both the teams are going through a rebuilding phase and it may take some time to get the situation stabilized. On top of that, some of the top Italian players (such as Mario Balotelli) have gone out of form recently (last year he was recalled to the national squad by Roberto Mancini). Still I would say that the situation for Italy is much better when I compare them with other central European teams like Netherlands or Danmark. At least depth in player pool is still there for Italy.

I feel like they are going to be doing fine with the squads they have. Looking at both Spain and Italy, they were at nations league finals weren't they? I mean that's not an important cup but at least it's a cup and that seems like they are doing a good job. I understand that it's not a simple thing in the end, but it is definitely a good thing one way or another.

I get that there are a lot of rebuilding process that needs to be done in order to make them be better, but they still have a decent squad for sure, that's the key factor here. They just need to play more together and then they will do much better over course of long period of time. I believe they do have a chance to get better, both nations could do well this time around.

Didier Deschamps is the same guy who gave the excuse of illness for the defeat against Argentina during finals of Qatar 2022. I guess the age is catching up with him. He has been managing France ever since 2012, and I believe it is time to inject some fresh blood into the French team. France had performed poorly last time, and this time they should aim at winning the trophy. After many of the senior players retired, Italy was not able to maintain the team balance. Luciano Spalletti has been named as Mancini's replacement, and I am not sure what he will be able to achieve. Spalletti has managed teams like Zenit Saint Petersburg, AS Roma, Udinese, Inter Milan and Napoli in the past and comes with tons of experience from all around the world. Let's see whether he will be able to achieve something that Mancini failed to do.

Yeah, but Spain has played two games less than Scotland so there are six more points for them to win. It's weird that they have lost to Scotland with clear 2-0 result. That may cost them in the end if Scotland doesn't slip up against some other teams.

For me personally the group D is more interesting as Croatia is in that group. They also have two games less than the other nations because they were playing Nations league final. I think I agree mostly with what you said, but it somehow denies the fact that we have seen big surprises in the past, whether it was the qualification for World Cups or European Cups. The big shockers are not very common and that is the reason why they are called shockers of course, but when you take the World Cup in Qatar I think everyone was shocked and excited at the same time when Argentina started with a loss against Saudi Arabia. While many of the games are boring, we have already seen a few qualifier results that weren't really expected. Look at Spain or the Netherlands right now. Let them have one or two more of those games with a lucky punch against them and they are in serious trouble.

Don't count on Netherlands too much. They are a declining team. Doesn't have any young players coming up and with every passing year their quality of play goes down. The Dutch were always known for the lack of sportsmanship on field and now they have become even more boorish. They believe that by indulging in brutal tackling and fouls, they can make up for the lack of quality in their game. And from what I can see, it hasn't worked that well. Netherlands is at the 4th place, behind France, Greece and Republic of Ireland. I sincerely hope that Gibraltar will be able to overtake them.
