What did I say about double names and weird long usernames sometime last year? They're AI web boat and reports on this thread keep proving me right. I'm lazy at connecting DOT now as I'm not longer in my prime (old now)  as I was 3 years ago but my instinct tells me these accounts are controlled by the same farmer and those names are fake.

I'm guessing these accounts do not perform automatically; I don't believe that there's software that advanced that can go through the forum and reply with AI itself. With that being said, with numerous accounts ending up banned for AI, why is this farmer continuing? I don't doubt your claim; I also think that a large number of these accounts are connected. Certainly, many cases are individual incidents/reports, but I cannot find the reason behind a potential AI farm. That's quite possible, but what would be the purpose behind this? If there was a scipt that could loop through threads or topic I would have accepted this idea of a user connecting a web bot to the forum for spamming and AI generated content. But that was just a case of using AI models to generate contents which are posted directly.

You are right. You don't have to be a clairvoyant. Check out his posts in the sections where the merits are pouring out like a tap. The topic on push-ups, the WO branch, and the topic where you can rephrase and chew over the same thing for the thousandth time: Buy the DIP and HODL! His year-long breaks also clearly indicate that some accounts have already become worthless, which means it's time to use a new one. Luckily, there are people on the forum who will quickly cool the ardor of such writers.

Well that would be their ultimate plan, in theory, but in practice, how many of those accounts, that have started from scratch, have managed to rankup and enter a signature campaign? I'm pretty certain that there is an account farmer, or perhaps multiple ones, that simply attempt to grow accounts for this purpose, how long do they need to do this for to understand that it's not working?

What the hell is going on there? I generally avoid huge megatopics, and I'm now frustrated. How does someone gain merit by ruminating on what has been said multiple times already? The same applies to the challenge as well, but I'm more "open" to it as it's theoretically a way to contribute to the community. Still though, many posts worth meriting do not gain the necessary attention, while another dude in broken English claims he has done 20 pushups due to Bitcoin and his life has now changed for the better. I haven't noticed what's going on in either of the two threads provided as an example, but since two highly reputable members mentioned it, it must be a pattern.

It already takes quite a bit of time to read posts and send smerits, and yeah, there are a lot of crappy posts that I have been reading through in recent times, yet I am not sure if the quality of posts (and seeming contributions (or non contributions) to the discussion of whatever might happen to be the thread) are worse in current times or the past 9 months (time for a baby) as compared to years before when AI might have had been less prevalent.

I am ONLY so receptive in terms of having to follow some burdensome requirements or to be told that I need to do something that I am not doing when it comes to making determinations about whether to send smerits or not.

And, now your above suggestions are getting into describing substance that you believe deserves or does not deserve smerits.   I doubt that those kinds of comments or suggestions are helpful.. if you think that merit sources are not able to determine which posts to send smerit based on some kind of a substantive requirement that you perceive as preferable or less preferable?

He'll never get it. The problem has been explained to him six ways from Sunday and he doesn't care. So, its best to just continue doing what we're doing. Hopefully campaign managers take a look at how merits from their campaign candidates were earned, but at the end of the day, its just the mass producing of signatures that matters the most, I guess. Hi, first of all, upon reading my post again, I understand that it might have come off as offensive, and I can assure you that it's not the tone I was looking for; therefore, I apologize in advance if it was considered that way. With that being said, I was mostly surprised, due to the size of the buy/sell topic that's over 180 pages long. I've never visited the thread because it's far too large for my preferences, and I always thought it was a topic where those who want to get their quota reply. I'm now seeing that it also includes replies from reputable members, such as yourself, and a few others I've already interacted with in the past.

One of the main reasons I'm not posting in such topics is that I cannot catch up with the replies; I'm losing the flow of conversation if I cannot reply immediately or within a short time frame; by the time I can reply, another 5 will have been posted. I also appreciate what you do, since you're sending a large amount of merits to newer users, helping them rank up, including myself. You've sent me almost 40 merits (39 to be exact), which have been a great help in ranking up to Legendary. With that being said, I am not second-guessing the merits you send, nor do I think there are bad motives; on the contrary. On top of that, the merits you've sent seem to be on newer members, which is extremely encouraging to them, and I'm sure that you're not giving them away to someone you do not think is worth it, or their post isn't well-constructed and fluent to read.

Yes, it might come as a little unfair to those who do not participate in such challenges or topics, and it does sound a little cringe claiming a Bitcoin challenge changed your life, but not every aspect of the merit system is 100% fair, and nor is there a system that's equally fair to everyone. If someone seems to be missing out, which is why I mentioned it, they can try their luck in one of these mentioned threads. I hope this clears up the misunderstanding.

I think we all have to agree that everyone has their own criteria for posts that they believe deserve merits and that there are no rules about it, and that accordingly, people shouldn't be called out for what they do with their sMerits. I personally avoid such megathreads and I don't see that it is something that should exist anywhere except on Off topic, but the majority obviously thinks differently (including the forum administration).

For example, JJG recently commented that my posts sound like nonsense (at least when it comes to WO), and do I need to make a drama about it? You simply get out of the way of the person and the matter is resolved - the forum is large enough that you can be an active member and avoid bothering anyone - at least that's my philosophy.

Thanks for the explanation, and I hate to be even having to get on the defensive when it comes to smerit sending, and so yeah, I can find it a bit problematic when it seems that my own merit sending is being attacked, and I am not even claiming to being able to figure out if some of the posters might not be real (such as AI) or if they might be otherwise unworthy of smerits for their posts. I mentioned that it already takes quite a bit of time to read through various posts in the threads that I mentioned, since there are a lot of crappy ones.  Maybe I have to get my own AI assistant to help me to identify good and/or bad posts.. .which I am currently reading most if not all of the posts that I merit...and yeah, I have already been back and forth with nutildah quite a few times on the topics in regards to my own expressed concerns about his seeming desires to impose additional smerit sending standards (perhaps even his own pie in the sky standards) that do not currently exist under the forum's current smerit sending policies (which are pretty open) for merit source members.

I cannot recall the exact details, yet I recall that we were having differences of opinion, and members have differing ways of dealing with the differences of opinion. Sometimes if we go back and forth and disagree then at least, there can be ways of figuring out the extent to which you or any other member stands behind what is being said or might be able to back it up when there might be questions about facts, logic or how those might come together to formulate opinions and/or conclusions.  

Another risk of being specific in your posts is that you are more likely to get interaction with some other member when you are being specific in your posts...  That seems to be a good thing, especially if there may be different ways of seeing similar things, and if getting into substantive specifics.   Even AI are getting better at engaging with specifics, so it might not always be easy to figure out whether the posts are coming from a real person or not.  I am not even going to say that I know how to figure it out.

This is not all about you; everyone knows how generous you are with your Smerits, which is good for the Merit system and your genuine interest in threads like that; however, I was only curious about the topic and how it was receiving such a large number of merits here and there. Some stake sig participants wrote on that thread, and most of their posts were not paid for - I couldn't read meaning into some of the posts.

Reputable members like you may have good intentions, but we can't deny that alt farmers like to use threads like that one to farm and cultivate merits, taking the generosity of the reputable members to their advantage. Now you understand?

Exactly, I've given merits in the Microstrategy thread to members who I later realized were merit farmers. And probably, if I were a merit source, especially one as dedicated as JJG in reading the forum, I would have given even more.

The thing is, I've already noticed how some people act—they come in and post a bullish piece of news in the thread without even checking if the same news was posted just two posts above. Stuff like that. I've already reported a few posts that have been deleted, and I'll keep doing it.

Anyway, I think this conversation, which isn't completely off-topic since it came out of the discussion, is straying from the thread's purpose, which is to report AI spam. It would be better to start another thread to talk about these merit farmers.

How many more threads will we open to discuss merit farmers?  It's not like the old ones ever helped anything.  Farmers do not check reputation boards and only respond when summoned.  I believe we should focus on other things to help improve the quality of discussion on the forum rather than feeding trolls and farmers.
