can someone explain to me how this is supposed to decentralize the internet? does it provide incentives for entrepreneurs to provide parallel or alternative data transmission models. does it reward mesh net node operators? i cant find anything about this sort of thing. From what i read it looks like a new layer that is going to be added to the top of existing infrastructure, if this is true it wouldn't be decentralizing the internet at all. decentralizing data storage maybe. but "the internet" can only be defined as the network of cables and satellites that connect computers. the internet is a collection of physical objects like routers and fiber optic cables and satellites, not data or information abstractions.
It is hard to give a picture from scratch. Perhaps you can read through some of the stuff on the website, and maybe look at some videos on YouTube that also talk about the idea of 'decentralize the internet', and then you can ask more specific questions? Maidsafe isn't building a new hardware layer of course, but the idea is to use the existing infrastructure and create an ecosystem that is more decentralized.

Yeah, there was a weird alternation between a huge sell wall and a huge buy wall. I'm curious to see for how long this will keep going on.
Anyway buy/sell walls sizes are pretty much similar, it looks like it's the work of one person but this is only my opinion.

What is happening is pretty obvious to me.

Inventor of the World Wide Web Tim Berners-Lee throws his support behind the Safe Network!

Check out his tweet...

https://twitter.com/timberners_lee

Even though we've seen a lot of FUD (also here in this topic by some trolls)..... great tech does attract great minds. Tim Berners-Lee has not only helped "Happybeing" from the MaidSafe forum with his tech project, he is also looking into The SAFE Network. This is the inventor of the World Wide Web..... What a complement for MaidSafe and their years of hard work.

Quote
I have wanted to get Tim up to speed on SAFEnetwork for a long time, and while it was great just to have his help once we’d made contact, he is now wanting to dig deeper and has been very complimentary about the tiny contribution (in the scheme of his work and David’s work) that I’ve made the subject of my DevCon talk.

https://safenetforum.org/t/maidsafe-dev-update-april-26-2018/23184/6

It's encouraging that such a personality has noticed the safe network project. So did I when I first saw this project, a looong time ago and I have bought the maidsafe tokens. The only question is: WHEN? When will it go live?

MaidSafe this project is really great. The details and concepts of the project are good. It should be praised by the team developers.

"It should be praised by the team developers?" I guess your google translator didn't work very well in this case.

Maidsafe is really a good long term investment. Just need to backup team and developer

I too have invested in maidsafe already one year ago. The question is how much time long term means. In crypto things move quite fast so if you don't deliver in a reasonable time, someone else will.

I am also an long term investor on maidsafe and I feel that 2018 going to make it really valuable crypto currency....it seems big players having some insider information like new exchange or anything else....something major is going to come in next few days....all of a sudden maidsafe have changed the gears...volume increased by 4 times in last 24 hours.....it seems some people knows something good about future of maidsafe that we common investors don't know...

MaidSafe Dev Update - May 10, 2018

Here are some of the main things to highlight this week:
We originally planned to make all our core libraries (such as Routing, Self Encryption, etc.) GPLv3 only. However, we have now decided to make some exceptions: for instance, our connections networking library Crust 1 will be available under MIT and BSD licences. Many other utility libraries are also now going to be made available under this dual license.
Ravinder (@ravinderjangra) has joined us at the Chennai Office. He has good experience with C# and he is an active contributor to Xamarin.Forms 5. We are looking forward to working with him.
The bindgen branch has been merged upstream 4. This hits a big milestone in regard to the language bindings support.

. SAFE Browser, Authenticator & API
. SAFE Client Libs
. Routing
. TRIVIAL

See the road map of the project, the project has done a long period of preparation work, it can be seen that the project should be well prepared before the introduction of the project, should give the project a little praise, your serious work for the future development of the project laid a solid foundation.

Do you have any links supporting your claim about big players? If the volume stays high for a prolonged time you may have a point.

I can't wait to see what they prepared regarding the asynchronous byzantine fault tolerance consensus Oo ... if they publish a paper about it that could be publicity of its own.

Looks like MaidSafe made a technical breakthrough when it comes to consensus:

Quote
In last week's #SAFENetwork Dev Update we promised a big announcement in routing this week, keep your eyes open to find out what's coming

It's not Alpha 3, we think it's bigger than that! Exciting news coming soon from the #SAFENetwork

All decentralised networks must overcome a fundamental problem: without centralised control how do you collectively agree on what's happening?  To do this you must have a consensus mechanism #SAFENetwork

More details to come tomorrow... #SAFENetwork

Link: https://twitter.com/maidsafe/status/998583531176648709

They worked for months with a team designing and testing this stuff. You can not have secure data-storage in a P2P-network if the nodes can not agree on who stores what chunk of data. Especially if you want to provide 100% data integrity (like your chunks, coins and data still being there even if you didn't touch them for several years).

So no matter if the network gets 200.000 new nodes in a certain month, or if it looses a bunch of them...... Your data should be secured no matter what (even after an internet blackout).

It seems they have the consensus and Routing part in place (IP-connection layer was already done). This means they can finally move towards beta. First we'll see Alpha 3 and Alpha 4 I guess.
